Chucks and I took off for Columbia to the South Carolina State Fair Monday night.
The first sight you see is the Ferris Wheel and the Rocket.
Everyone meets at the Rocket.
Lost adults and kids are asked to go to the Rocket.
"Meet me at the Rocket" is a phrase most of us have known for decades.
The announcement that always gets a laugh is "Jane meet your husband at the Rocket".
Yes, you can find a wife or a husband at the Rocket!
Who needs computer dating services?
Many smaller acts perform along the midway.

The excitement builds once the sun sets and the neon glows.
Williams-Brice Stadium where the University of South Carolina Gamecocks play in the background. On Saturday there will be over 150,000 people in this area as a noon football game collides with Saturday at the fair.
Not too crowded on a Monday night.
It is my favorite ride.
Chucks wondering if he will ever set foot on terra firma again.
I promise we only had lemonade.
Wish I had bought some vinegar fries!

I have gone to the state and county fair every year for as long as I can remember. Our county fair is in July and state fair in August. I always get a tenderloin at the county fair and fried candy at the state fair. :)

ReplyDeleteI need a fair in my life. Without getting a heat stroke. Looks like you and Chucks had a great time. Magoo is not a fan of open air heights. Ferris wheels make him nervous. I bribe him with a turkey leg if I have to.
ReplyDeleteWell, that looks like fun! Haven't been to a fair in ages...not since I was a kid in fact. Ah, the ferris wheel...that always scared me to death! I can not handle heights. Vinegar fries sound great!
ReplyDeleteI would just love a funnel cake or elephant ear. I can go without the whole fair thing, though. No gondola or ferris wheel for me! At the Ohio State Fair, I enjoyed the animals. Cows, goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens, pigs. I was a city girl, and that's about the only time I got to see farm animals.

ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! I've never been to a state fair, but we do have the Exhibition in Toronto. It was an annual must at the end of August when we were kids into young adulthood. I haven't been since I moved out of the city in 1988. Didn't realize it was so long until this very moment. I have very fond memories. Might have to go next year.

Used to love going to county fair in Del Mar, CA, was hot tho as it's in early July. We've only gone to Mesa Cty. Fair twice when we first moved to Grand Junction, CO. It's in later July but also so darned hot, gotten so can't handle lot of heat unless am in water in my old age.
ReplyDeleteYour fair looks huge like San Diego county's,, so much to see, is more fun at night and when it's cooler. Wouldn't get me on that gondola or ferris wheel, no way jose. Glad you had good time.
What a fun date for you and Chucks! I know it is a fun place to go but the noise is over the top. Last time I went to the NYS Fair I got a migraine! I am not a fun date. My husband and son love that stuff.
