Heavy Linens

I have been heavy on linens here lately.

Both buying and purging my own extensive collection.

Sometimes I do buy modern linens.



IF they have a vintage vibe.

OR a great price I can pass on to my customers.

Which was the case recently.

At an estate sale I found stacks and stacks of custom Waverly bedding and drapery sets.

I only had to pay the dry cleaning fee.

What a great deal.

There were comforters, duvets, shams, pillow cases, valances, pillows, and bed scarves.

Bed scarves?!?!

What the heck is a bed scarf?

It is a half comforter folded across the bottom of the bed.

 
It is either just decorative or a great way to keep your tootsies warm.

At another sale there was a box of lace panels.

Slightly brown with age even after being soaked.

But I loved them.

I tied them into sweet lace bundles of joy with torn cotton ribbon.

Blue and yellow striped India cotton spread.

Soft and blue baby blanket.

PB quilt with shams.

Not vintage, but look vintage.

There was a huge box with this peeking from it.

A dark brown - almost black - and tan cotton toile thing.

I pulled and I pulled as I was huffing and puffing.




UNTIL I unleashed a king PB quilt with two ginormous shams.





Luckily it was washable.

So all of it went into the washer.

Can you imagine how heavy it was when wet!?!

I yelled for Chucks.

We pulled and we pulled as we were huffing and puffing.


UNTIL the whole thing came out of the washer.

I cannot even remember how long it took the dry it.

It does look great tied up with its ribbon.


Also found two wrought iron old lamps - both rusty and crusty.

The shades were cheap ones with no ribs so they were tossed.

Not sure what I will do with these two.


Thinking of stripping the wiring and making them candle holders.

Deciding between a creamy white or a turquoise.

Maybe black.

Need to decide.

Need to have them out of the living room.






This toile rooster was so crazy I bought him.

Along with four decorative shelves in need of gloopy paint.

Yes, you do spy dirty caulk guns.

I have a collection of eight.

Have an idea.

They are on a very, very long project list.

I am going to leave you hanging as to what I will complete next.

I am going swimming.

Dreamy In Pink

Let me preface this post with the admission that there is nothing in my house pink except the downstairs bath - 1950's green and pink.



But I seem to becoming a "pink person" in my older years.

It could be I realize with my white hair, pink is the color for me.

Well, maybe not go that far, but I do love having my cottage-y booth filled with pink.

So in conclusion I may dream of pink, but live with rustic colors.

I shared my utter delight at discovering a long-lost can of Sweet Pea Pink under a cabinet.

This is the second in a series of pink posts.

No before pic.

Just imagine a silverplate bowl both tarnished and beat up.

Now take a gander at it.

Of course I distressed it and displayed it with old crochet and baubles of silver and pearl.

It needed something more.

I took a heavier grit sanding block to it.

Still too plain.

Mulled over the choices of stenciling, decoupaging, or stamping.





Went with stamping a branch of birds with the phrase - "Follow Your Dreams".

It seems complete now.

Keep or sell?

Sell won.

It's Super Sonic Shopping!

It was a super sonic shopping day!

It was electrifying!

It was truly thrift-a-fying!

It was the Super Bowl of Turn Arounds!

I managed to shop, clean, tag, and arrange a half truckload of fab finds.

All in the course of four hours!

This great gray trunk - plenty of patina.

Did not need a thing.

Four perfectly pink cabinet doors.

Look at the detail.

Plenty of patina.

Did not need a thing.

Wicked white shelf.

Cute, cute, cute!

Did not need a thing.

Two rusty, crusty buckets.

Blue, bluer -

Bluest!

What kind of case?

Vintage pet carrier.

Did not need a thing.

(In fact, did not appear to have been used.)

A black tin suitcase.

Plenty of patina.

Did not need a thing.

I had to show the label on the tin suitcase.

I have to admit I hid this in my empty closet.

So I should not have included this in my gigantic boast about how I can buy and not keep.

So sad. 

So sorry.

So not giving in on this one.

Cute little bench.

Perfect as it is.

Did not need a thing.


All are now at Riverfront Antique Mall in North Augusta, SC.




All are awaiting their forever homes.

All except the tin suitcase hidden deep in the closet.



After our cat Molly died back in June, her little kitty friend from down the street continued to come over each afternoon.

She and Molly used to take naps together in the sun.


I had become alarmed at her weight loss and asked the neighbor if she was sick.

She said she could not get her to eat.

Chucks said, "Do not feed that cat!"

"Donna, do not feed that cat!"

"You better not be feeding that cat!"

When I returned home from the Super Sonic Shopping Trip earlier than he thought I would, guess who was not only feeding the cat, but also playing with her.

Miss Peepers now comes for dinner and sometimes breakfast.

Chucks gets up early to make sure she is fed.
