Stylish Oak Table

I love these oak side tables - so practical in many spaces. 

I already have three of them so this one was destined for the booth.

Bought from Olive, it was painted with a matte black top and the bottom left in the original oak.

The wood was dry and dull.

But the table was in relatively good condition.

No wobbles.





If you have had experience with this style, you know wobbles are a problem.

The solid matte black top was doing nothing for me.

After a sanding to lightly distress it, I began to wax it.




















 
Used Howard's dark oak wax.

After two coats of wax I am loving the top.

A soft sheen and some distressed edges.

As for the dry wood Howard's Restor-A-Finish to the rescue.

Used oak finish.

See the difference from the front leg to the back leg.

It transforms the wood in minutes.

The stylish black-top, oak side table is ready to go.

And I am off to complete more projects.

Bought From Olive

It is so nice to have friends who find things you love as they travel around.

One dear friend is Olive Out.

 

Recently she had a pile of things for me to go through and decide which to buy.

She knows I am on an ironstone pitcher hunt and found this beauty.

Along with the decorative metal piece.

The book and the syrup tin came from somewhere else, but look at the lovely linen fabric in turquoise and gold.

Using this for fall decor right now.

A rusty wire basket filled with bobbins and spools of several shapes and sizes.

I love a good basket.

She found this old chalkware piece and knew it would be perfect for my bathroom.

Two tables.

Olive had painted them with black chalk paint.

The tall oak one you will see tomorrow transformed.



 
The Moorish one is currently in front of the fireplace with fall decor on it.

I plan to use the table as a base for the Christmas tree.

The brown desk Olive envisioned painted in a soft blue, but after getting it home and cleaning it, I decided to sell it just as it is.

Great mid-century vibe.

It is waiting for its forever home in Booth W-10, Riverfront Antique Mall, North Augusta, SC.

Blue Top Tables

I will swear these three tables have blue tops.

I used a pale blue.

The three tables are part of downsizing.

This table was a standard in the bedroom corner.

Came out at Christmas to display a manger.

Have to remember it is no longer available.

This table was a standard in the den.

Held seasonal displays including a small Christmas tree.

Have to remember it is no longer available.

Under the burlap a pot-burnt surface.

Yes, that is a mahogany table.

Yes, I have sworn countless times NOT to paint any more mahogany furniture pieces.





This table was a standard in the breakfast room - formerly part of Horror Monster, my once-beloved craft stash.

Held metal file boxes of paper supplies and craft books.



I have to remember ...

No, I don't have to remember because ALL the craft stuff is GONE!

Peeled off several layers of adhesive paper to discover a whole lot of ugly.

Decided to wash and scrub.

 Multiple times!

Somewhat better.

Sanded the tops of all three.

Scrubbing the bases several times.

All the tops now smooth as glass.

All the bases were treated with Howard's Restor-A-Finish. (Not a sponsor)

Right cute little group.

Great little work tables, but they never made it back in the house.

Straight to the truck for a ride to the booth.

I waited until dusk to prove the tops are blue!

Ridge Spring Sprint

One Thursday Chucks and I decided to make a sprint up the road to Ridge Spring for lunch at Juniper. (FB page here)



Of course you have to visit Stuff and Things - the best junk store ever!


A basket of buckets.

A pile of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.

A small crate and two buckets.

Hundreds of saving stamps.

S&H, Top Value and others.

Some never used.

Including booklets.

Sold right away.

Had delicious salads at Juniper and headed back home.

Of course I must stop at the thrift store.





Found these two caned seat chairs and the end table.

Kitchen Table Dream

Many of the changes in the kitchen were from my dreams.

One of my dreams was what the new kitchen table would look like.

It had to be crusty and rusty.

And distressed.

Yet usable as an eating surface.

Also it had to have an industrial look.

So here is my dream kitchen table.

It all started at a garage sale down the street. Melissa always has great things left over from her design business.

Two pieces of distressed wood were being used as tables for smalls.

My niece Leia spied them first and pointed out there was my kitchen table.

Alas, Melissa said they were spoken for, but she had one extra over in a corner.

1940's mason table top.

Years of mixing mortar.

Zinc-wrapped ends.

Carriage bolts to hold the slats together.

Genuine lime-washed pickled finish.

Rough from the embedded gravel bits.

There was only one person to make this a table.

Jerry Adams, a fellow dealer at Riverfront Antique Mall, is an excellent builder of rustic furniture.

He sanded the top and gave it the soft sheen of multiple coats of satin varnish.

He found old casters to use.

The top alone weighs about sixty pounds - I needed a way to roll it back and forth.

Then Jerry created this base and distressed it with gray paint.

The shelf and the angled legs add to the table's beauty.

The top can be unscrewed from the brackets underneath.

It took four of us to tote it around the house and into the kitchen.

We have enjoyed our meals around the table.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I am obsessed with this table.

I will show it again when I reveal the breakfast room completed.

Friday Finds

Along with the normal shopping, I have been raiding sections of Horror Monster, my beloved craft stash, for items I have decided I can live without.

Like this primitive high chair which has sat for years in the corner of the den holding stacks of books. 

I had to move it for an electrician to check breakers in the electrical panel. 

I like the corner bare.

So there!

But I did shop last Saturday.

A lovely wicker and wrought iron patio set.

A bit rusty and crusty.





 

A green toolbox - great for a fall or Christmas display.

Look at the cute tiny metal paper cutter.

I resisted keeping it as I only collect the wooden ones.

A wooden crate - lost part of its side.

Two bundles of straw - look like artichokes to me.

I bought these two for the metal baskets but left the arrangements in them to sell.










 

I had to buy a huge box of wooden hangers ...

To get these vintage ones and ...














 

Two old advertising ones.

There was only one tosser in the bunch so it turned out to be a deal.

I fell in love with this primitive green cabinet on casters. 

The guy was unsure why it had not sold.

 

He was sure all the great hardware in the drawers was worth the price.

YES!

I had to take all the junk, but he did cut the price in half.

It has a sliding board at the top for extra work space.

I found this graniteware roaster at Riverfront Antique Mall while cruising the aisles.

It just said Fall to me.

The days are getting shorter around here.

I swim for 90 minutes each afternoon - it's getting darker earlier.



The sun is slowly moving in a different position.

Well, actually the Earth is doing all the moving.

Off to some sales and possibly an auction or two.
