Friday Finds

primitve furniture, vintage finds, downsizing
My Friday Finds this week are from Horror Monster.

Downsizing is getting harder - I am down to things I loved at one time and may love again.

Like this primitive rocking chair.

You notice one side is askew.

I have had it for about twenty years.

It has held my Santa collection, toolboxes, dolls, and stacks of quilts.

Off to the booth where I hope it will find a loving home.

This school desk - once green - sat in my aunt's house for her grandchild to play school.

Then it was passed on to me.

It sat on the front porch for years.

I brought it inside to hold a collection of vintage reading books.

Off to the booth where I hope it will find a loving home.

The red and blue shelf was painted by me way back in 1993 when we completed the first kitchen renovation.

No room for it in the new color scheme.

Off to the booth where I hope it will find a loving home.

A chainsaw folk art tree.

I used to have a small bear - long since gone.

Off to the booth - blah, blah, blah.

I have not had this school desk for more than five years.

I no longer have a need for it.

Off to the booth - blah, blah, blah.

This wrenches my heart - I am not sure I can part with it.

I am driving around with it in the back of my truck.

A primitive plant stand used in the dining room for ironstone displays.

Off to the booth - you know the rest.

The red bench I made from a cornice board many years ago.

Used for my cookbook collection.

Willie slept under it.

He keeps looking for it.

Off to the booth ...

The only thing I bought this past week - a picnic basket.

The easiest thing to send off to the booth.

No emotional attachments.

There are a number of estate sales this weekend.

There is only a bit of space in the house.  Most of the kitchen is now in the living room.

Monday the appliances will be moved to the dining room.

I will post details of the renovation.

My word for May is TRUST.

(Thanks, Olive!)

It is a hard one.

See y'all!

Due to construction, I will be unable to set up at the annual Magnolia Ridge Antiques and Art Gathering. However, I will definitely be a shopper!  Hope to see you there.

Quickies - Little Boy Blue Ladder

quick makeover, paint project, ladder
Little Boy Blue come blow your horn.

I just wish this bad little boy would run back to my booth - he has been missing for over a week.

He is prancing around somewhere in the building.

Remember this ladder from Friday Finds a week ago? READ HERE

I was outside painting the blue dresser and decided the ladder would be the perfect companion piece.

And a quick project.

I taped over the distressed galvanized bits and covered him with Rain Storm.

I had some books on him next to the dresser.

Keeping my fingers crossed he has returned or has been re-homed.

Oh, gosh, I hope he has not been kidnapped!

See y'all!

Friday Finds

architectural salvage, Friday Finds, junkin' trip, vintage books, old doors
Marketplace Antiques on Broad Street in Augusta, GA, had a backyard sale last weekend. (Facebook HERE)

I thought I was up bright and early to make the thirty-minute drive over, but arrived to find a guy loading up two huge boxes of spindles.

Spindles were at the top of my list.

But there were plenty of goodies to go around.

Like this old kitchen cubby.

This architectural piece used to be part of a porch railing.

It's a keeper.

A huge, thick bread board - splattered with paint so it is fair game for more paint.

Tall narrow screen door - probably one of a pair.

Chippiness galore.

A mirrored wardrobe door.

Pinkalicious!

Twin bed springs.

Usually I take apart the springs to sell separately, but this set is in great condition.

Perfect for an outdoor chandelier or a garden bed or a trellis ...

Endless choices.

The Old Coffin Carrier brought home a skeleton.

Hand-carved - off to Niece Leia who will paint it in a Mexican style.

Yes, unfortunately he has lost his arms.

Finally, just when you thought it was safe to come and avoid books, I bought more books.

And a basket to carry them.

My favorite and a keeper - a leatherette volume of Rhymes of a Rolling Stone by Service.

There are several events coming up soon.

Hope there will be some treasures.

See y'all!

Brooks Bros. - Buttoned and Blue

painted dresser, furniture makeover
I have no clue why I thought of Brooks Bros. when I finished this three drawer dresser.

He seemed so blue and buttoned up.

Started as a knotty pine boy with rust around his handles.

Washed and handles removed.

Already sturdy so no major repairs needed.

I have used this blue on several pieces and love it.

Called Rain Storm.

The handles were quite rusty and I was prepared to replace them.

However I always sand a little to see if handles are worth saving.

Guess what?

They were worth saving!

He sat patiently in the front yard waiting for me to finish sanding the handles.

I almost changed my mind and added knobs.

But, no, I liked the original handles better.

A Brooks Bros. boy - all blue and buttoned up.

Already available in Booth W-10, Riverfront Antique Mall.

We have Kitchen Demo Day scheduled for May 1!

Progress pics next week.

I promise we are working hard.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

flea market, vintage market, vintage finds, tiny chairs
On Saturday morning after the Vintage Market Days, Phyllis and I woke up early, had a quick breakfast at the hotel, and took off for the Ladson Flea Market.

Spied this tattered and torn jewelry case.

Opened it to find cute pins - especially the horse ones.

The dealer priced everything separately but accepted my offer of a one bundled price for all.

I know I should have washed this old vanity mirror first but I didn't.

Heavy round glass with a pie crust edge.

A brass base.

Made to be placed flat on a vanity.

A wire basket, a quilt for Chucks, and an old ice tray.

Always on my list - little chest of drawers and small ladders.

These two have had makeovers and are in the booth.

A very large serving tray, a black oar, and a wooden paddle.

Too sweet to pass by - two kindergarten chairs painted white with green polka dots.

Bought a white Samsonite suitcase - convinced it matched the train case from a previous week.

Alas, they are two different styles - one in oyster and one in white.

Set of three blue and white USA cups.

It pays to dig in those gross boxes under the flea market tables.

Found the Log Cabin Syrup bank in one.

So what did I buy at the Vintage Market Days fair?

Well, the prices were a bit high for cheap me.

But I did find these new sugar molds to use for a future project.

For the new kitchen (still waiting on cabinets) an old grain sack and a Mexican bread tray for the table to be reveal later.

To be honest, the table top is riding around in the back of Chucks' truck and the base has not been started.

A galvanized top to a feeder.

Not sure if it is a keeper or not.

Great architectural piece.

One side chippy white.

And the other side chippy green.

A definite keeper.

Finally a cute shirt just for me.

So it was a weekend filled with junkin', flea marketing, and eating.

And Friday Finds!

See y'all!
