Marketplace Antiques on Broad Street in Augusta, GA, had a backyard sale last weekend. (Facebook HERE)

 
I thought I was up bright and early to make the thirty-minute drive over, but arrived to find a guy loading up two huge boxes of spindles.

Spindles were at the top of my list.

But there were plenty of goodies to go around.

Like this old kitchen cubby.


This architectural piece used to be part of a porch railing.

It's a keeper.

A huge, thick bread board - splattered with paint so it is fair game for more paint.

Tall narrow screen door - probably one of a pair.

Chippiness galore.

A mirrored wardrobe door.

Pinkalicious!

Twin bed springs.

Usually I take apart the springs to sell separately, but this set is in great condition.

Perfect for an outdoor chandelier or a garden bed or a trellis ...

Endless choices.

The Old Coffin Carrier brought home a skeleton.

Hand-carved - off to Niece Leia who will paint it in a Mexican style.

Yes, unfortunately he has lost his arms.





Finally, just when you thought it was safe to come and avoid books, I bought more books.

And a basket to carry them.

My favorite and a keeper - a leatherette volume of Rhymes of a Rolling Stone by Service.







There are several events coming up soon.

Hope there will be some treasures.

Friday Finds

Last weekend yielded multiples of items.

Like a stack of bifold doors.

Here are several - they were selling as I brought them in from the loading dock. 

The doors make great screens on porches, displays for booths, and, of course, doors!

A lovely louvered screen door #855 from an old cottage in Aiken.

No, I did not need another tool caddy, but I am enjoying it on the front porch for awhile before it heads to the booth.

Another despicable chore - getting the tape off.

Painted red Samsonite folding chair - child size. 

A scrap of cloth - I looked in bin after bin to see if there was another piece of this.

The gold milking stool I left as I found it - wonderfully distressed.

And the tool?

The ScaleMaster No. 10.

"Oh, no, I've lost my arms!" cried the spooky doll. 

There is that piece of cloth again.

Yes, folks, yet another quilt - all hand-stitched and hand-quilted.

A very large market basket - the bottom striped red, gold, blue.

A stack of quilt pieces - two squares and the rest ovals.

An old knob and lock set.

A bag filled with children's vintage shoes.

My favorite pair - felted wool booties with embroidery.

At another sale two newer pairs of tiny shoes.

Bundled group - clip-on rings for curtains - handy in the booth.

A handful of bracelets.

A ring holder. 

A scoop.

A small lace tablecloth.

A large storage basket.

The cloth scrap fits the basket, but I decided to use it another way.

I will admit I bought this spool of metal without a clue of what it is.

It simply appealed visually to me.

I have an idea for it.

Wait and see.

Four kindergarten chairs. 

A candlestick table in a dark finish - decent enough - I did not paint it.

A large gardening encyclopedia.

So ...

Multiple doors.

Multiple tiny shoes.

Multiple quilt pieces.

Multiple chairs.

Wonder what is out there this weekend?

Pantry Door Chalkboards

Obviously I have not gotten too terribly bored with chalkboards because here come two more.

First talk a friend into selling you her pantry doors.

First thought was to save the lovely avocado and gold decals. 

Quickly changed my mind while envisioning painting chalkboard paint around oddly shaped decals.

Then there was the brown packing tape - the scourge of my existence when painting pieces. 

First remove the top layer of clear.

Generous spritz of Lift Off and let it sit a spell.

Then carefully scrape without gouging.

The decals refused to budge so I lightly sanded them and painted over them.

A still life:
A Girl, Her Brush, and Valspar Chalkboard Paint. 

Since chalkboard paint is ultra-matte, there is no need for priming.

Four coats later, it was time to condition.

While waiting for paint to dry, I was cleaning the pool and working on some other paint projects.

No, the pool should not be green.

No algae - just a boatload of pollen.

Soaked the retro atomic chrome handles in ammonia  for about an hour.

Came out sparkling.

I was much too tired to be creative with chalk artwork.

I could not even think of a balanced meal!

I confess!

One of the other projects was another chalkboard.

On a Blitz pan for an auto shop.

Man cave style!





I have reduced the number of items I will be taking because of the storms moving in.

There is a chance we may stay home.

I am very disappointed.





We are watching the skies carefully.

I need clear skies from 7AM to 4PM on Saturday.

It was the perfect trifecta - sidewalk shopping, thrift store discount day, and Habitat sale day.

A pair of lovely turquoise French doors that remind of Joanna Gaines.

They came quite a roundabout way from Olive Out.

A pair of old screen doors.

As you can see the doors are in Booth W-10.

Came with real dirt!

One tweed suitcase.

Two large brown suitcases.

One blue train case.

A large green and yellow cupboard door.

Come back Sunday for its makeover.

Look, Fonda, a globe and dictionary stand!

I've finished this makeover also.

I've been a painting fool.

I found a box of reference books.

Harold loved his dictionary so much, he engraved his name on it! 

I love red levels to display bottle brush trees - this one just level enough to show my poor brick barrow no longer even pretends to be level! 

A leather briefcase.

These make great magazine storage.

I have polished all the cases.

I have fluffed some stuff.



I am on a painting spree.
