Bought From Olive

It is so nice to have friends who find things you love as they travel around.

One dear friend is Olive Out.

 

Recently she had a pile of things for me to go through and decide which to buy.

She knows I am on an ironstone pitcher hunt and found this beauty.

Along with the decorative metal piece.

The book and the syrup tin came from somewhere else, but look at the lovely linen fabric in turquoise and gold.

Using this for fall decor right now.

A rusty wire basket filled with bobbins and spools of several shapes and sizes.

I love a good basket.

She found this old chalkware piece and knew it would be perfect for my bathroom.

Two tables.

Olive had painted them with black chalk paint.

The tall oak one you will see tomorrow transformed.



 
The Moorish one is currently in front of the fireplace with fall decor on it.

I plan to use the table as a base for the Christmas tree.

The brown desk Olive envisioned painted in a soft blue, but after getting it home and cleaning it, I decided to sell it just as it is.

Great mid-century vibe.

It is waiting for its forever home in Booth W-10, Riverfront Antique Mall, North Augusta, SC.

Friday Finds

A hunt through Horror Monster, my beloved craft stash, netted a truckload of treasures to take to the booth.

Most of my colander collection is now gone.

Downsized my funnel collection. 

No one really needs thirty funnels, do they?

A few had the star spout.

Let it go!

I found many small bottles and jars displayed throughout the house.

Selected a box of ones no longer desired.

SPOOLS!

Man-oh-man, did I ever have spools.

Found this basket of spools in my bins of fall decor.

No wonder I never used them.

Did not have a clue where they were.

Three bottles of ordinary tiny spools.

A basket of threaded spools.

SPOOLS!

Let it go!

All this was moved two months ago or maybe longer to the side yard from the front porch.





Waiting for me to make a decision about my tool and tackle box collection.

Decided to send away ten of them.

Let it go!

Springs - been around for years anticipating a fantastic craft project using them.

Know what they are?

I left a clue in the middle back.

Let it go!

Finally there was silverware and silverware and silverware and ... 




Bundled like with like and sent them off to the booth.

Let it go!


So Horror Monster has started slimming down.

I am beginning to like empty spaces.


I may have to go hunt down some furniture for the booth, but I have crossed most smalls off my list for now.

There are more treasures to be found right here in my house.

(Am I already missing my funnels?  YIKES!)

Did you guess right? The springs are from old hair curlers.

Friday Finds

I have not been avoiding you.  I have been very busy on a new project which I will share soon.

Meanwhile I have been thrifting smalls.



Two train cases.

A large basket with beehive bobbins, an oil can, several graters (which you cannot see).

An aluminum colander.

Two dictionaries for paper art.

Two volumes of the Children's Classics.  (I did not care for these when I taught because they are abridged.)

A graceful hand.

A large piece of a crazy quilt.

A pair of candlesticks with a handy bowl bottom.

I will be painting these.

Two over-sized Sunshine Bakery biscuit tins.

The neatest thing about these tins is they open on both sides.

Though I can imagine the curses that would fly if the bottom came off after filling the tin with goodies.

I love this book because:

I love Thomas Hardy.

I love the cover.

I love the typography used.

I love the librarian who thought to stick the card catalog cards in the back pocket with the checkout card.

I love the pages which had to be cut open by the first reader.

A gold tole bowl with limes.

A silver tray.

A primitive blue bench.

A child's Mexican chair.

A large funnel.

A rusty saddle stand.

A fifties woven spread in very worn condition - it was well-loved.

I am keeping this lovely green pottery bowl.
















Does anyone recognize the potter's mark?

I won a giveaway from Melissa at Melissa's Antiques and it arrived this week.

A batiste towel with delicate embroidery.

Vintage Halloween treat bags.

Vintage Christmas cards and stickers.

Wooden spools.

One spool is already dressed for Christmas with a wee bit of washi tape and a bleached bottle brush tree.

French Gimp Spools

I love to work with French gimp - a type of trim.

I use it on my tattered tags, Christmas ornaments, signs, and yes, even on fabrics.

I bought two partial bolts of French gimp in pink and cranberry.

It is acetate woven into a loopy design.

It is not from France.

In fact this vintage gimp was manufactured in Union, South Carolina.

Probably 1960's.  The mill has long since been shuttered.

I measured out a very generous six yards.

I had some old bobbins from a cotton mill.

Wound the gimp around the bobbin.

Secured it with a safety pin with vintage buttons.

Added a sweet distressed cherub tag.

Tonight they will be listed in my Etsy shop.

Five pink spools.

Two cranberry ones.

Use them for basket fillers.

Or supplies.

And I saved one pink one for Swap & Tell tonight.
