Friday Finds - A Thrifty Day

On a recent Friday I made the rounds of thrift shops and hit a bonanza of smalls.





A stack of Syracuse platters - creamy white with a brown glazed border.

A small Roseville cream pitcher.

A lovely ironstone water pitcher - traces of pink around her sides.

No basin - but who cares?

The pitcher was filled with this mixed bunch of dusty, dirty silk blooms.

Someone evidently donated a boatload of them because every basket and vase and pitcher were crammed with silk flowers.

AND you had to take them with your purchase!

Lidded market basket.

Nice for displays and for shopping.

A pair of Christmas hatboxes.

Mary Jane's Farm double sided comforter.

Green and pink floral patterns.

Pink and white butterfly quilt.

The butterflies are made of candlewick knots.

Pieced by machine but quilted by hand.

Pair of giant brass candle sticks.

Then promptly found a similar pair slightly smaller.

Pair of serving bowls.

The left one is the Cameo pattern (Homer Laughlin).

The one on the right is not marked but goes well with the other.

I adore and will keep this pitcher.

It bears the scars of a long and useful life.

Plus it is pretty.












Two silver plate trophy bowls - only one engraved.

I did not know there was an award given for "Outstanding Adult".

Cute little bronze baby shoe.

A large gold embroidered tablecloth.

Only found four books but the reader and the When We Were Young are keepers.







 

A huge pile of baskets because at one place the more you bought the cheaper they were.



 


Another week.

Another thrifty haul.

Notice the hauls are getting smaller and smaller.

At some point I need to show photos of what I am downsizing in my house.

I do post some on Instagram.

Chucks fears he may be next.

Friday Finds

This week's Friday Finds post features a truckload of items from a swap meet to benefit the animal shelter.

As you can see the back was fully loaded.


Even the front seat was piled high.

Yes, I had to bungee the red wagon to the tailgate.

A cute blue cabinet.

A distressed magazine rack.

A large gold frame.

A painted little ladder.

The two horse head pieces were once part of a stable gate.

Looks fabulous, but it is really for an outside room.

Made of plastic with a pink plush fabric.

A little red wagon.

Should have bought it first to haul my stuff back and forth to the truck.

A snow painting purchased from a guy who commissioned the painter for this scene.

 
Typesetter drawer in great condition - just needs extreme cleaning.

A bright blue chair.

Two quilts.

A large basket with two pale blue floral pillows.

A plant stand in need of paint.

Two pink ironstone divided plates.

Squint your eyes - they look like faces.

Purple violet vase - very attractive.

Large white ironstone platter.

As if I needed another platter.

A rusty old hand truck.

A small bookcase.

A oak split basket.

Small level.

Large dictionary.

Horse head painting.




Off this weekend to Columbia to meet up with Rush who is visiting.

We have junkin' on our minds.

Friday Finds

I was asked today by a fellow thrift shop junkie how I stayed so youthful.

I told him if you haul junk older than yourself, you always look young!

So what did I buy this week?

I rescued the folding metal chair from the scrap heap.  I think I can wire it back together enough to hold a plant.

A wire freezer basket.

Two wicker baskets.

Two badminton rackets in a double racket press.

Roller skates.

I had a pair like this until we all removed the wheels from our skates to make skateboards from odd pieces of wood.

The skateboards cost us nothing except the skin from our knees and elbows.

A homemade candlestick table.

The giant potato masher is actually a dry wall mud mixer.

A stack of bank bags - both small for coins and large for bills.

A couple of wooden boxes.

More baskets.

An orange Japanese tin.

A See's Candies tin

Three small metal planters.

Finally - a pizza peel.

Two nice drawers.

A small creamer.

An English tea tin.

A box of old textbooks.

An official Pepsi jeans jacket.

Two round floral prints from the 1950's.

A pair of metal pantry doors with delightful avocado and gold decals.

I have a definite idea for these.

Just as soon as I can get the packing tape off without marring the painted finish.

A tool caddy.

It seems I had a two by two theme this week.

I have managed to get half my finds sanded, cleaned and painted.

An April Fool?  Not me!

Friday Finds

Where in the world have I been hiding!?!

I sorta was distracted by all the holiday festivities. 

Then we were hit by a violent stomach virus.

Yet I prevailed and managed to shop.

These shutters only made it in the back door of the store before they sold.

A wonderful way to block unwanted views on your porch.

I have been away for so long, I no only automatically take a photo of every single thing I do, see, or buy.

Like this lovely drop leaf pedestal table.

It was a deal because the seller did not know how to make to extender braces pull out for the leaves.

All it took was a bar of soap.

Really.

Two box loads of vintage postcards - 1500 in all.

It is very pleasant to sit and sort and read the inscriptions.


I have an Etsy listing for them and you can  customize your order by telling me what you want.

A good solid end table with a horrendous paint job.

I like the shape.

AND ...

The red leather top is in decent shape.

For some odd reason there were scads of flags last week at the thrift store.

Really cheap.

I bought the cotton ones to distress for later in the year.

A whole bag of vintage Christmas.

I probably sell twice as much holiday in spring and summer as the fall.

I keep a dedicated space in the booth for each holiday.

Cute little picnic basket.

A lovely ceramic violet bowl.

Four white ironstone restaurant bowls. 

Marked Wellsville China. 

The numeric code indicates they were produced in 1950 in Wellsville, Ohio.

A handmade sorter.

It had a paint accident.

It will be further distressed by paint.

Poor little thing.

You know those drop in things you have to attend around Christmas?

At one pictures were taken in front of the tree.

Then a copy was mailed to us.

Through some trick of the light streaming in the window and from the strands of lights on the tree, Chucks and I magically lost a combined weight of 100 pounds.

So though I have flashed this photo shamelessly on FB, I thought I would flash it here.

Plus you can see my new glasses - RED!

All these years of fighting glasses that never fit right, I found out I should have been wearing CHILDREN'S glasses.

They fit like a charm.
