Quickies - Sap Buckets

Remember the old sap buckets from Vermont featured on Friday finds?

After carrying them around for a few days, I realized the rust was smearing all over me and the car.

But I did love that rusty, crusty look.

I did not wish to lose that patina.

Used a wash of watered-down white acrylic paint.

Let the rust shine through.

Several coats of clear wax inside and out.

Notice I took the liberty of stamping "VERMONT" on the bottom edge of each bucket.

The only problem was the buckets locked together when stacked.

While filling them with newspaper, I thought about my Dollar Tree stash of pumpkins, straw, and ravens.



Time to put all to a good use.

Fun fall decor.

Friday Finds - Vintage Market Days

Several weeks ago I attended the North Augusta Vintage Market Days at the Hippodrome.

A huge barn space with dirt floors.

No air conditioning.

However the dealers are varied and have great merchandise.

Some prices are a bit steep.

Other prices are just right.

And some dealers are willing to bundle if you take everything.

And you know how much I love to bundle.

I try to keep a few tags in the booth.

Chosen by color, age, state, and specialty.

Truck and trailer tags are sought.

Look for the number/letter combinations.

Like the Ohio ones pictured. 

Rusty and crusty from 1954.

Score!

Now for the bundle deals.

I was low on tin roof tiles.

Told the dealer I wanted all of them if the price was right.

The price was right.

Ended up with a few dozen.

If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen the red gates.

They are old fence sections cut like arched gates with handles added.

The backs are distressed white.

Spied some large, heavy-duty vintage sap buckets.

Embossed with the metal company's name.

I thought there were only three.

Asked about more and the dealer found a total of eight.

And you know the rest of the story.

Yep, another bundle deal!

Ridge Spring Sprint

One Thursday Chucks and I decided to make a sprint up the road to Ridge Spring for lunch at Juniper. (FB page here)



Of course you have to visit Stuff and Things - the best junk store ever!


A basket of buckets.

A pile of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.

A small crate and two buckets.

Hundreds of saving stamps.

S&H, Top Value and others.

Some never used.

Including booklets.

Sold right away.

Had delicious salads at Juniper and headed back home.

Of course I must stop at the thrift store.





Found these two caned seat chairs and the end table.

Friday Finds

For her birthday my sister-in-law wanted to go to the flea markets in Columbia.

Well, I certainly could grant her wish.

We all jumped into my brother's truck and off we went.

I had a list, and except for wire baskets, I found most of the items.

A brass cricket box.

Medium size.

This adorable child's hanger.

A Texas Fruitcake Co. tin depicting some history.

I was very interested in what was inside.

The top was sealed shut with grime.

Finally it released.

Inside some vintage button cards, buttons and spools.

Snow skiing buttons!

I am picturing a ski sweater.

When we arrived home, I unloaded everything from my brother's truck and put it all in the Blazer before the rains came.

Green shutters.

Could have used lots more.

Kerosene can and an aluminum basin.

Out of buckets.

Found four tucked under a table.

A small purple ladder.

A slightly larger painting ladder.

A tall, distressed, splintery ladder.

It has rungs on one side and steps on the other.

I'd take the ladder apart to use both sides on the wall.

Or ceiling.

A family portrait before taking extreme baths and being tagged and dragged to the booth.

While walking around Riverfront Antique Mall, I found this 1951 Wise Potato Chip tin in great condition for a low price.

Could not resist.

So far not much advertised for hunting this weekend.

I cannot promise not to shop - I might sneak some junkin' in sometime.
