Quickies - Shelves

quick makeover, painted shelves
Take three little shelves out of the stash.

Well, to be honest, this one is a divided box.

And to continue to be honest, this one would more likely be called a crate.

However, the third victim is definitely a vintage kitchen shelf from an old house in Augusta.

All three needed extreme cleaning and some sanding.

Using spray paint in aqua and pink the divided box, the crate and the shelf are transformed.

Quickly.

To be displays for tiny trees.

Yes, it is that time of year again.

Willie, my supervisor, hunts in the bushes.

He loves to watch me paint.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

bottles, pottery bowls, small chests, vintage finds, thrift shopping
A Friday Finds post with nary a book to be seen.

In between the time spent moving everything in the dining room and kitchen and breakfast room into the living room, I did a little therapy shopping.

And dreamt of the day when the kitchen is mine again.

(And the reno has not even started!)

Not old, but the perfect size brown bottles for decor.

Bought two serving bowls of this pattern.

Not marked.

Looks and feels like Blue Ridge.

I know it has a name because I once had a set of salad bowls.

This is the pink one.

And this is the green one.

The set would have had a yellow and a blue one also.

No luck in finding the other two.

Someone please tell me if you know this pattern.

A boudoir lamp featuring a frolicking nude.

A set of two soup bowls with small plates - pink floral on white - Royal Sphinx.

Collected milk glass pieces for a spring display in the booth.

Small creamer for a birthday present.

Black wire basket.

Divided box.

Plaid Thermos.

Three-compartment basket with hinged lids.

Small three drawer chest - needs some loving.

Another three drawer chest - also needs some loving.

All of these photos were taken by phone.

However, at a meeting recently someone told a tale of purchasing a new camera. Her computer refused to recognize the camera.  She downloaded the software several times.  She tried other computers.

Does this sound like moi?

And the answer is: purchase a new USB cord.

I did.

And it works.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Future pics by a Canon Sureshot.

If you follow me by Instagram, you have seen the above.

Sorry for repeating.

I hope to be back to normal soon.

Whatever normal means.

Our family motto is "We're NOT normal."

See y'all!

Quickies

fall decor, Rust-oleum Aqua, distressed painting, quick makeovers
What is it about blue and orange for fall?

When I am swimming each day, I look at an azure sky with the autumn leaves.

It makes me happy.

I gathered three victims for this quickies makeover this Sunday.

A pair of black iron arrows.

(Yes, I forgot to take a before pic before I painted the first coat - OOPS!)

A market basket.

HINT:  Rust-Oleum in Aqua.

A desk organizer.

For extra interest for the iron arrows, they were sprayed first with cinnamon paint.

Market basket?

Check.

Arrows?

Check.

Desk organizer?

Check.

Perfect with a prim pumpkin.

Of course, I distressed the arrows and desk organizer.

Ready to point the way to FALLLLL!!!

Looks rusty to me.

Great way to display.

Look out for primitive pumpkins.

And one more pic for the road.

See y'all!

Grain Bin

grain bin, distressed painting, grain sack stripes, makeover
There is only one way to paint a grain bin.

Like a grain sack, of course!

Grain bin bought at the auction a couple of weeks ago.

Old.

Oak.

Great saw marks.

Took the easy road to distressing.

First a swipe of a loaded brush.

Then follow with a swipe of a dry brush.

No sanding necessary.

This is a no-name OOPS paint.

Taped off for the stripes.

First two stripes.

Pounced blue with my trusty stencil brush.

While the paint is still slightly wet, I drag the brush through for a fabric look.

I retaped between the stripes for a thinner companion in the middle.

At this point I was on the fence about lettering or not.

I decided the bin needed a name.

Yes, I often stencil letters upside down.

I can never leave stenciled letters alone.

I fill in the blank spaces and highlight with a shadow.

So the bin's name is GRAIN.

It can be found in Booth C-23.

Riverfront Antique Mall.

It is filled with lacy stuff right now.

However I am planning to make something special for it.

See y'all!

Quickies

primitive chest, tool box, quick makeover, image transfer
It is hot as blue blazes here so big paint projects have taken a backseat to small. ones.

Like this primitive tool box.

Now a sedate gray.

Started life as a very distressed box coated in brown paper.

I could not find any markings on the wood or paper.

The hinges no longer attach the lid to the box.

Chewed through in some places by beast or vermin or insect.

After a good sanding.

It is a hefty guy.

The only paint on it was this gray/green color on the braces of the lid.

I left it as is.

With Bermuda Sand as a base, I added blue and green to make a gray color.

Used a French sheep label from The Graphics Fairy.

Used the waxed paper transfer method.

Did not fill in the holes - too much character.

Did not add new hinges - not necessary.

We can pretend it is an old sheep shearing box.

Since it took less than an hour, I think it qualifies for a quickie.

Still in my junk funk.

But I am shopping Horror Monster, my beloved stash.

Have found things which have not seen the light of day in years.

See y'all!
