I felt the French Love Song washstand needed a companion piece.






So second verse same as the first!

Except this time it is a bookshelf.

I bought the bookshelf on the same day as the washstand.

Hence the same blooming hydrangea behind it.

The paint was a bit scratched and lumpy. 

So I sanded the heck out of it.

Put it in the living room and used it for my ever-increasing book collection for several months.

After  completing the washstand I used the leftover Krylon Spray Chalky Finish in ivory.

Great coverage.

Used the same French Love Song stencil from Maison de Stencils as the washstand.

In the same French blue craft paint.

It is an easy stencil to use.

Then did the same to distress the song lyrics - sand the heck out of it.

Rather like this size bookshelf so I am already on the lookout for another victim, er, project piece.

Quickies - Going Gray

Quickies going gray this Sunday.

Krylon Chalky Finish Spray paint in Slate.

Easy to apply.

Easy to clean up.



Easy to hand sand.

Easy to apply a spray satin clear coat.

Evidently the only hard thing for me was remembering to take a before pic. 

This is the little atomic age bookshelf from Friday Finds.

Looked sweet when I finished painting, BUT...

You know I HAD to distress the poor thing.

Locker baskets would be perfect for this bookshelf.

I only have the baskets I am keeping.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

We are having a cool spell and can wear jeans and flannel pajamas!

Quickies

A quickie bookshelf makeover.

I did not really want to paint it, but someone had glued tissue paper to the shelves and the finish was ruined.

The only before shot.

Bottoms up and ready for paint.

I decided a satin black would be great to cover the flaws.

However the brown stain kept showing through.

Then it dawned on me the color was NOT black but BRONZE!

I had picked up the wrong can.

Only had a partial can so off to Hobby Lobby for another can of Oil Rubbed Bronze - Krylon.

OUT!?!

OUT OF STOCK!?!

Ran next door to Lowe's who had Oil Rubbed Bronze in Rust-Oleum so I took a chance.

Luckily it matched.

I liked the highlights of bronze in the paint.

Love the mission style of the slats.

This was definitely a homemade, but well-made, piece.

I have only used this bronze on metal pieces, but plan to use it on another furniture piece soon.

I will make sure to have enough on hand before I start something.

The back looks as good as the front.

The bookshelf could be used as a divider.

Quickies

Three white pumpkins with what?

Heavy metal pieces of something?

Started life as a giant mouth.

NO, they were two crescent wall pieces.

White and platinum.

Gave them a light spray of white.

Was not too concerned with coverage.

I had never used the Krylon Spray Wax on any paint except their chalky finish spray paint.

Let's give it a try.

It's a bit scary the first time you use it.

Have on hand:  gloves, paper towels, and time!

Coat the piece well but not dripping. 

A couple of quick light sprays.

After spraying. wait about two minutes.

Then start wiping excess wax off.

Move the wax into crevices.

Then wait fifteen minutes.

Using a soft cloth or paper towels buff the heck out of it.

See that gleam?









 

Loving the heavy metal look though they are very light wood.

They originally sat on a stand - you can find the holes in the sides.

Probably dark wood then.

The next owner did the finish you saw above and placed hangers on the back.

I left the hangers.

Though I like them this way better than as crescents.

Quickies

Time for Quickies!

Today's victim is the 1970's wooden waste bucket I bought a few weeks ago.

My instrument of torture was a can of Krylon Chalky Finish in Classic White.

I like the lion's head detail on each side.

I love them distressed!














 

Finished with a coat of spray satin varnish.
