Kitchen Table Dream

Industrial kitchen table, mason's mortar board, farmhouse table
Many of the changes in the kitchen were from my dreams.

One of my dreams was what the new kitchen table would look like.

It had to be crusty and rusty.

And distressed.

Yet usable as an eating surface.

Also it had to have an industrial look.

So here is my dream kitchen table.

It all started at a garage sale down the street. Melissa always has great things left over from her design business.

Two pieces of distressed wood were being used as tables for smalls.

My niece Leia spied them first and pointed out there was my kitchen table.

Alas, Melissa said they were spoken for, but she had one extra over in a corner.

1940's mason table top.

Years of mixing mortar.

Zinc-wrapped ends.

Carriage bolts to hold the slats together.

Genuine lime-washed pickled finish.

Rough from the embedded gravel bits.

There was only one person to make this a table.

Jerry Adams, a fellow dealer at Riverfront Antique Mall, is an excellent builder of rustic furniture.

He sanded the top and gave it the soft sheen of multiple coats of satin varnish.

He found old casters to use.

The top alone weighs about sixty pounds - I needed a way to roll it back and forth.

Then Jerry created this base and distressed it with gray paint.

The shelf and the angled legs add to the table's beauty.

The top can be unscrewed from the brackets underneath.

It took four of us to tote it around the house and into the kitchen.

We have enjoyed our meals around the table.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I am obsessed with this table.

I will show it again when I reveal the breakfast room completed.

Thanks, Jerry.

It is my dream come to life.

See y'all!

Blue Cupboard Purposeful Market

JoanMarie Company, Blue Cupboard, new towel line, Etsy shop
Have you met JoanMarie yet?

I became a follower of her blog after seeing her beautiful photography featured on other blogs.

She is a woman with a vision.

Through months of following her blog, I have seen her take an idea and develop it into a business.

The business is Blue Cupboard.

The first product was denim towels.

JoanMarie sent me one to use and abuse.

Well, I have used it plenty.

Love it!

As for the abuse part?

I did dry off Miss Peepers who was drenched by a sudden rain storm.

Not really abuse, I guess.

But Miss Peepers loved it.

The newly-opened  package.

The towel is now softer and a tiny bit wrinkled after numerous washings.

Blue Cupboard is named for her grandmother's blue cupboard.

Each item in the product line proudly sports a frayed embroidered tag.

Note the excellent stitching details.

Also JoanMarie added the loop for hanging.

I was so impressed I purchased the linen pantry towels.

It was like getting a present in the mail.

Everything was beautifully wrapped.

Her tagline is Blue Cupboard Purposeful Market.

JoanMarie pays attention to the tiniest detail.

I chose three towels in pond, ciabatta and basket.

Love the colors.

These linen-blend pantry towels are smaller than the denim towels, but a generous size.

I am using them for hand-drying at the present time.

They would be great for wrapping warm bread or using as place mats.

Find JoanMarie's blog HERE .

JoanMarie Company on Etsy is found HERE .

She has new products coming soon.

I was given a denim towel, but the opinions above are freely given. JoanMarie only asked for personal feedback.

See y'all!

Breezy Blue Primitive

Table make over, primitive, patina, prairie style, Krylon Cool Ocean Breeze
Breezy and blue is not ordinarily words you would associate with primitive.

However when offered the chance to use the leftover can of Krylon Cool Ocean Breeze on my oh-so primitive table, the spraying began.

(No, I do NOT receive any compensation for the brands I use.)

I found this primitive beauty when shopping with Olive Out in Statham, Georgia. (read post here)

I loved her curvy legs.

She sat in the corner of the living room while I pondered her fate.

Her wood was very dry.

Turquoise paint had been splashed over her.

WAIT!!!

WAIT JUST A MINUTE!!!

She had turquoise paint on her.

Where is that can of Cool Ocean Breeze?

Sanded and scrubbed and ready to ...

Throw her legs in the air like she ...

Well, you know.

Spray paint over raw, dry wood soaks in.

I used a very light spray since I wanted a time-worn finish.

Disregard my patio.

I promise it will be clean in a few weeks.

I liked her here, but ...

I loved her after polishing with Howard's Dark Oak wax.

Yep, just the look she deserves.

Graceful beauty with a lovely patina.

Miss Breezy Blue Primitive will be going on the junk caravan to the Magnolia Ridge Antiques & Art Gathering.

There will be a whole family of breezy blue primitives there.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for the annual Magnolia Ridge Antiques & Art Gathering!

Quickies

quick make over, pine cones, paint
While cleaning out the front yard, I collected a bucket of pine cones.

I decided instead of tossing them, I would use them.

The pine comes are not especially pretty this year.

I brushed them off.

And decided to paint them.

Rust-Oleum Navajo White and Krylon Cool Ocean Breeze.

I played around with adding tulle ruffles.

Decided it was too fussy.

The cones look lovely on the chest in front of the sofa in the late afternoon sunlight.

I plan to use them to stage my items at the Magnolia Ridge Antiques and Art Gathering.

Pretty, pretty.
