Friday Finds - A Neighborhood Sale

In the fall and spring there are many neighborhood sales where a number of residents have yard sales on one day.

They print a map to pick up as a guide. 

It's 7:30AM and I am off to Aiken Estates to discover what treasures I can find.

The first house was a mother and son selling off her collections to get ready for a move.

It was early but they were ready for bundle deals.

I bought all the Zanesville pottery.

Thanks to Linda at A La Carte for helping me price it.

Four dozen small glass bud vases.

Linda helped with these too.

In fact she did all the research for me. 

A box filled with tiny Occupied Japan figurines.

Not as sought after as years ago but still make a great display for Christmas villages. 

Four glass reamers (or juicers).

Your eyes are not deceiving you.

I forgot to put the fourth in the photo.

A few 1950's children's books.

Belonged to the son but he did not want them.

Kitchen gadgets all in the original boxes.

Someone had grabbed the huge box of them.

Weirdest mold I have ever found.

New in the box - carefully wrapped in tissue. 

Naked chickens!

Henny Penny molds for gelatin salads.

My grandmother used to make ham gelatin molds, but never chicken gelatin molds.

Hers were molded in swirly molds. 

Neat thing about the set of graters is they all fit together to hang.

All that at the FIRST house.

And I had a pocketful of money left.

I had planned for the chair to be a project to learn to paint upholstery.

However I have sent it to the booth to become some other lucky person's project piece.









Third house.

Tall pedestal with packages and packages of lace panels.

No photo of the lace panels - forgot and now they are sold.

Next house a basket of knobs and small canvases.

More lace - doilies and place mats.

The box is a set of lovely glitter crowns - each with a religious theme.

I bought a whole box of hangers to get the vintage advertising ones at the bottom.

Found a bunch of the old painted ones in the box when I went home.

Chucks needed the pants hangers.

Good deal all around! 

Last house and they were ready to get rid of everything.

How late was it?

Only 9AM.





I bought quite a stack of her baskets like these.

More lace.

A white cosmetic case.

A star colander.

Vintage package of dolly clothes pins - original price of forty-nine cents.

Tiny Tupperware containers with the lids.

My mother used to put peanuts in our lunches with these.

And something kitschy.

Plastic mugs from Spenser Gifts dated 1982.

I have been busy with bottle brush trees and getting the house bulldozed for the holidays.

I wish someone would invent a Roomba the size of a lawn tractor to clean for me.

Linda's Downsizing, My Downfall

Linda from A La Carte sends me these tantalizing emails filled with photos of items she is downsizing.

With great prices!

We plan a fun place to meet to have a wonderful lunch and some vintage shopping.

We chose Madison, Georgia for our last Fun Day.

Some I kept and some things I have in my booth.

The plant tables I used until all my summer pots of plants dried up. Then off to to another person to use.

The bookshelf was not part of the stash but used to display all the goodies.

Lovely pottery shoes and a Roseville dog dish among other things.

Some of you may remember when insurance policies were  fancy certificates presented to you in metal boxes like this one.

A box of china balls with numbers and letters. 

These look great in glass-top canning jars with metal bales.




More pottery - aqua apple dishes, and fiesta tea cups, a set of rooster creamers.

A bread basket.

A close up of the adorable donkey figurines.






 

Look at the shape of the juice pitcher complete with the six glasses.

Old patterns are good sellers in the booth.

I had the front pattern when I used to sew and made several dresses.

Salt cellars and a martini pitcher.

More creamers.

I had to keep a couple of these.

The darling tweed case was mine from the start.

Planned to paint the rolling pins but someone put dibs on them.

Fruit squeezer is a nice heavy duty one.

Linda knows I have a huge soft spot for baby shoes.

Used these in a large glass vase until they left for another home.




 

1950's bar set.

Plan to paint the cutting board.

Royal Copley pottery bird bowls.

One pink and one blue.

No one seems to want these.

I think it is neat there is a pair of them.

Maybe they will become a Christmas present. 

The green glassware looks rather fetching in the booth with orange pumpkins.

Especially love the tomato red Universal one. 

Milk glass goblets will be filled with small bottle brush trees.

A set of yellow Luray serving pieces - two platters and a bowl.

And last but not least, a whole set of Poppytrail California Strawberry.

There is only one saucer missing. 

In excellent condition.

No scratches - no stains.

Bowls for cereal, serving, soups, etc.

Serving dishes. 

Tea pot with creamer and sugar.

Dinner plates, cups and saucers.

Covered tureen.

Gravy boat.

I have this displayed in my booth with groups marked separately with the option to buy the entire set.

Many lookers but no offers yet.

Linda and I unloaded her SUV and loaded my SUV with all the items.

We did such a great job, I still had space to buy more!

Friday Finds

My Friday Finds this week are from Horror Monster.

Downsizing is getting harder - I am down to things I loved at one time and may love again.

Like this primitive rocking chair.

You notice one side is askew.

I have had it for about twenty years.

It has held my Santa collection, toolboxes, dolls, and stacks of quilts.

Off to the booth where I hope it will find a loving home.

This school desk - once green - sat in my aunt's house for her grandchild to play school.

Then it was passed on to me.

It sat on the front porch for years.

I brought it inside to hold a collection of vintage reading books.

Off to the booth where I hope it will find a loving home.

The red and blue shelf was painted by me way back in 1993 when we completed the first kitchen renovation.



No room for it in the new color scheme.

I used to have a small bear - long since gone.

I have not had this school desk for more than five years.

I no longer have a need for it.

This wrenches my heart - I am not sure I can part with it.

I am driving around with it in the back of my truck.

The only thing I bought this past week - a picnic basket.

The easiest thing to send off to the booth.

No emotional attachments.

There are a number of estate sales this weekend.

There is only a bit of space in the house.  Most of the kitchen is now in the living room.

Monday the appliances will be moved to the dining room.

I will post details of the renovation.

My word for May is TRUST.
