Riding The Ridge With Rush

Junkin', antique shopping, blog friends, Ridge Spring
Meeting blogging friends is always special, but sometimes you seem to click.

Last weekend Rush and Katie came to Aiken for a long weekend to visit family and friends.

Including me!

We agreed to spend Saturday "Riding the Ridge" hunting for treasures along the way.

On the way to Ridge Spring we stopped at a couple of sales.

At an estate sale I found some lovely vintage hats.

Rush spied the colander and knew I would want it.

We stopped at a mission sale and then flew up the road to the Ridge.

Katie rode shotgun and Rush took the back seat.

First stop was Stuff & Things.

Look in the pic - it runs from the STOP sign to the windows - three store fronts filled with anything you could think of - REALLY!

Miss Ann manages the whole place with help from Miss Josephine.

No air conditioning - this is not a place for wimps.

It took us almost two hours to plunder every nook and cranny.

Miss Ann held our finds up front so we could hunt more efficiently.

Found this corner curio shelf - yes, there's going to be a makeover.

I needed baskets and I found baskets.

After loading the truck with our purchases, we headed up the road to Monetta and Peaches and Such (FB page HERE) for a delicious lunch.

Plus preserves, jams, jellies, homemade cakes, etc. etc. etc.

Most of the ingredients are locally sourced.

Dessert was a cup of their creamy peach ice cream.

Back  in Ridge Spring we shopped through Old Treasures (FB page HERE) and Ridge Antiques.

I found this clock cabinet.

Love the shape - thinking about maybe an altar or a showcase for something.

Tagged as a headboard lamp, but I was not sure.

Then  it hit me - it is a casket light!

Had to have this.

Just too odd to pass by.

Art Deco pewter.

And it works.

Two brown and pink rag rugs.

A Waltzing Matilda tea towel.

At this point I thought maybe Rush and Katie would be tuckered out, but they insisted, yes, insisted, on continuing Riding the Ridge.

(Chucks had given me a lecture on NOT holding them captive on a day-long hunting expedition.  He knows from experience how I can get while junkin'. Also I was NOT to tie anything on the tailgate. Also I was NOT to make them hold treasures in their laps. Sometimes Chucks is NOT fun!)

We stopped briefly in Ward to hunt through a small shop.

We did not buy anything.

On to Johnston to YSS Antiques & More.

I found this delightful porcelain front drawer - probably from an old stove.

Look at the patina!

Rush has an affinity for body parts and we both had to have glove molds.

I found the Dixie Belle Gin bottle.

Perfect size to slip into a girl's garter.

The blue corbel is for my mantel.

The three of us had a wonderful day.

I did NOT make them shop all day - just most of it.

I did NOT tie anything to the tailgate (though a garden gate almost came home with one of us).

I did NOT make either Rush or Katie hold anything on her lap.

The truck was packed with goodies for all of us.

There's another post tomorrow for the books I bought.

I was so glad my extreme junkin' did not scare neither Rush nor Katie.

We actually shopped at Riverfront Antique Mall (where my booths are) all Sunday afternoon.

When I was unloading my truck Saturday night, I found a small pink bag with the most delightful surprise in it.

Katie made this ornament.

A green origami bird which flutters about a chandelier crystal.

I tried to take a picture of it hanging, but could not capture how whimsical it is.

Thank you, Rush and Katie, for a weekend filled with friends, fun, and favorite finds.

Rush is a commenter on different blogs and is taking a break from blogging.  You can catch up with her HERE.

See y'all!

Whee - The Peach Tree 23

Peach Tree 23 Yard Sale event, long yard sales, vintage finds, rusty stuff
Whee!  Every year on the first Saturday of June, there is the Peach Tree 23 Yard Sale event.

It is forty-four miles down State Highway 23 from Batesburg-Leesville, SC to Modoc, SC.

I have never made it all the way from end to end - just too much and too hot!

I had a short list and vowed to keep to it.

I wanted farm fresh - straight from the barn - rusty, crusty delights.

And I found them.

I purchased the old scissors and rusty hook first thing.

They are for decorating - not using!  (Chucks!)

I would love to say I never pass up these vintage metal shelf units, but I did leave one behind because of the price.

This one was a deal.

A galvanized sorting tray - quite long.

Missing dividers, but ...

It has the numbers handwritten down the sides.

Old wall-mounted cupboard in pink, green, and white.

The door will have to be sanded so it can close.

Yes, that is a glass knob on it.

You have sharp eyes to spy it under all that paint.

I had metal milk crates on my list and found two.

You can't make up patina like this.

Yes, I do see all the dirt and spider webs.

A lovely black straw bonnet with beautiful millinery flowers bedecking it.

No, I did not buy the head.

I bought the head before I thrifted before I went yard saling.

It's a long story.

All three items on my list -

A rusty wheel.

A rusty can.

A typing table.

Check, check, check!

On the list -

A wooden ironing board.

Enamelware basins.

Check, check.

In Ward, SC, we spied doors and windows.

(Or at least I did.  Chucks was trying to drive fast through the traffic so I would not see the old doors.  How silly of him - he knows I have door-dar!)

I only bought one - you can see why.

Blue patina!

YAY!

How funny is that guy showing his wife who was driving down the highway things she might want.

My favorite find of the day was this stack of tin ceiling tiles.

Both rusty and crusty.

Only need a little dirt removal.

Patina is perfect.

How far did we travel?

About twenty miles.

I had a mostly filled truck and had checked off many items on my list.

Plus it was 10:30 and the fog was burning off.

Sweltering heat ahead.

We went home to relax in the AC.

We are wimps.

See y'all!

The Way to Warrenton, Georgia

Warrenton, small towns, antique shops, old buildings
The way to Warrenton, Georgia, is littered with places to junk.

You know from my last post, I had purchased a cast iron urn from Mimi T's on Facebook and Olive from Olive Out had the shotgun seat on the trip.

I thought I would show just a bit of Warrenton. It has a lovely downtown

First there is Mimi T's.  No, they do not still Christmas up in their window display.  I was just too excited about my urn to think of taking another photo.

Hollie and Laney run this place with all the vintage goodness you would want with a sharp technological edge.  They run estate sales from their Facebook page.
Link to their Facebook page here.

You have to be quick to say "I want!"  Then the object of your desire is held at the store awaiting your instructions.

There are dealer booths inside with reasonable prices and the merchandise is varied.

I never leave empty-handed.

Olive and I were starving.  Hollie and Laney sent us down a block to Miss Jane's

This is the kind of town where everyone waves as they pass by.

Or stop to tell you "hello" on the street.

In this case, people said to make sure we ate at Miss Jane's.

So we did.

The restaurant is located in a beautiful old store front furnished simply with the smell of wonderful aromas drifting out to the sidewalk.

It is a meat with two or more sides kind of place.

DEE-licious food.

Warm friendly folks.

Miss Jane's Facebook page here.

And a huge selection of homemade cakes.

Now I cannot eat grains of any sort so I had to pass on the cake, but I forced Olive into not only eating a slice, but taking a few home for dessert later.

I am a cake enabler!

As we turned around to leave town, we saw the old theater.

Next time I go to Warrenton, I plan to ask if it is still used for special events.

This building on the corner caught my rust goddess eye right away.

I fell in love with it.

It was rusty.

It was crusty.

It was charming.

Looking into the main window there was a Fresh Strawberries sign - this place must be used as a produce stand in the summer.

The three doors with the transom windows above stole my heart.

My favorite combination of chippy white and gray.

I know some would think this an eyesore, but I am sure it is eye candy!

See y'all!
