Friday Finds

vintage finds, vintage typewriters, estate sale, vintage books, ironstone platters
This week finds me with fond memories of a recent estate sale.

I was busy practicing my new oath of restraint.

I shoulda, coulda bought a whole truckload and now regret I did not.

I am trying to get the hang of this restraint thing.

A metal typing table needing a few screws.

It had a few loose ones.

An old Remington typewriter.

The tag is a key chain from the lady's business.

She was well-known around here in real estate circles.

Both typewriters were in great shape - just needed cleaning.

The older Underwood.

When I was in the sixth grade I fell in love with the Jalna series.

Because there were horses involved.

This is a partial set of the books.

Four of the series  Tales of a Grandfather by Sir Walter Scott.

Each book is a collection of tales from different countries.

A series of books and stories by Bret Harte.

Two Christmas books by Charles Dickens.

A couple of bank bags.

I have since decided to sell off my collection of bank bags.

They can be found in Booth W-10 Riverfront Antique Mall.

Small leather souvenir photo album.

From Mt. Washington, NH.

Old atlases!

Chucks and I both love old atlases!

One large ironstone platter.

Plus a smaller one!

Hope I am not boring you with all these finds posts.

Because we have a ton more to go.

See y'all!

Little Dresses

vintage clothing, tiny dresses, 1950's, estate sale findI was lucky to find a box of tiny dresses from the mid 1950's back in May at an estate sale.

Able to save several.

The before photo was lost but take it from me, they were a mess.

Mice, need I say more?

Soaked them in boiling hot water with OxyClean for several hours.

Then washed and dried them.

Quite successful.

Only had two casualties - shredded.

Not a pretty sight.

This may be my favorite of the bunch.

Or maybe this blue print with a lace collar.

Yellow pinafore dress with pink embroidered flowers.

The top is smocked.

A cutie!

Pale pink.

And lace.

Yellow and blue ruffled romper.

Crossed straps in the back.

Hung on tiny hangers.

No vintage hangers currently in Mini-Monster, my new craft stash.

Horror Monster has left forever.

Little dresses.

Friday Finds

thrift shops, estate sales, dressers, baskets, vintage finds
I know I feel 100% now that I have three junkin' trips under my belt.

Several sets of hand painted tissue boxes and waste bins.

Great deal on these because someone at GW thought they were canisters.

An old rattan bathroom cabinet, a Mexican Easter basket, a large market basket, covered white basket, brass heart wall pocket, and flash cards.

Two folding rulers and a Red Devil scraper.

Just because these two were sitting on a shelf like this - a funnel and a roll of wire.

Two black metal photo holders.

Large tin fleur-de-lis.

A wooden medicine cabinet and a shelf.

An artsy photo of a beveled mirror - probably once part of a dresser.

An artsy photo of a washtub and a large freezer basket.

Okay, okay.

Not so artsy.

Too tired to drag out the stuff and take photos.

Or too lazy.

I made it my mission to find some furniture to paint for the booths - getting too low on inventory.

The two MCM dressers are not the same size or color, but they do match in style.

The country cupboard is 1970's - sturdy - practical - spray painted blue.

Very blue.

All will have makeovers.

On Wednesday I thought this would be the extent of my Friday Finds.

However I persevered.

Trudged forth to four thrift shops and one estate sale.

Happy hunting to all of you this weekend.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

vintage finds, buckets, books, photographs, jars, Coca-Cola
Friday finds me - whaaaaat?

SIXTY-THREE!!!!!

Yes, today is my birthday.

Yes, send good wishes.

Yes, give a gift to someone who needs it.

Chucks took me to an estate sale yesterday for a present.

The couple in their nineties moved into a new home and left treasure after treasure behind.

FIVE sheds!

Bike wheel.

Two buckets.

A solid copper box with lid.

Rand-McNally Family Atlas.

Really rough shape.

This campaign poster was glued on the inside cover of the atlas.

You can read about the Wofford professor HERE.

It is interesting to us because Dr. Clinkscales retired to a house on the Wofford campus renamed the Kilgo-Clinkscales House.

Chucks and his father were named after Rev. Kilgo.

And Chucks' father attended Wofford.

I think the atlas may be a keeper because of the campaign poster glued to the inside of the cover.

Copyright 1912.

It's older than I am!

Also older are the stacks of books I bought.

1880's to 1950's.

Mostly children's books.

Look at the tiny Webster's Dictionary on top.

Definitely a keeper.

A small group of presentation New Testaments.

Calling cards from ministers.

I do remember when the preacher came to call.

In one of the workshops - two work aprons.

One Coca-Cola.

"Be really Refreshed" is the 1959 slogan.

One Aiken Lumber. (Notice the telephone numbers.)

A wooden hanger.

A Band-Aid tin.

There were walls of family photos - most professionally framed.

Each photo has the name and the date on a label on the back.

I could not leave the children behind.

The adults I left to fend for themselves.

However I might slip back over Saturday afternoon to see if any others need rescuing.

A bike basket filled with Gerber baby food jars with the blue and silver tops and Duke's Mayonnaise.

In the South it is the ONLY mayo fit to be eaten.

Okay, so I am another year older and probably a bit meaner.

But I am still out junkin'.

That's all that matters.

Plus most of the stuff I buy is older than I am.

See y'all!
