Friday Finds - Vintage Market Days

Vintage Market Days NE Georgia, Rusty and crusty finds. vintage sap buckets, vintage auto tagsSeveral weeks ago I attended the North Augusta Vintage Market Days at the Hippodrome.

A huge barn space with dirt floors.

No air conditioning.

However the dealers are varied and have great merchandise.

Some prices are a bit steep.

Other prices are just right.

And some dealers are willing to bundle if you take everything.

And you know how much I love to bundle.

I try to keep a few tags in the booth.

Chosen by color, age, state, and specialty.

Truck and trailer tags are sought.

Look for the number/letter combinations.

Like the Ohio ones pictured.

Rusty and crusty from 1954.

Score!

Now for the bundle deals.

I was low on tin roof tiles.

Told the dealer I wanted all of them if the price was right.

The price was right.

Ended up with a few dozen.

If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen the red gates.

They are old fence sections cut like arched gates with handles added.

The backs are distressed white.

Told the dealer I wanted all of them if the price was right.

The price was right.

Spied some large, heavy-duty vintage sap buckets.

Embossed with the metal company's name.

I thought there were only three.

Asked about more and the dealer found a total of eight.

And you know the rest of the story.

Yep, another bundle deal!

More on the sap buckets on my Quickies post Sunday.

Friday Finds - Vintage Market Days

Friday finds, vintage metal, Vintage Market Days, antique fairOn the same weekend as the Magnolia Ridge Gathering back in May, there was a Vintage Market Days event in North Augusta about a mile from Riverfront Antique Mall.

It was a boon for the sales at the booth.

I did not get to attend the first day, but after Ridge Spring on Saturday morning, I drove back to Aiken, unloaded, and headed to North Augusta.

I was searching for metal stuff for the kitchen.

This is not old but it is perfect for Chucks to have hanging over his coffee station.

Just a gentle reminder, you know.

A large sheet of pressed tin.

Have not used it yet, but it may not remain whole.

Pressed tin cornice pieces.

I have a project involving sheep for these.

I met Sarah Jane Fisher of Southern Boy Primitives and fell in love with the items she and Andy sell as they travel.

You can find them on Facebook HERE - Southern Boy Primitives.

These are pieces from a Makom chicken brooder.

They have a delicious rusty look.

I have them outside getting a little more rusty before I seal them.

I will probably use them in a row on the outside wall where there is currently a big hole in the brick where the old vent fan was removed.

My hope is it will cover the difference in the new brick and the old brick.

Chucks has gone around the neighborhood looking for old brick matching what is on our house.

He has amassed quite a stack.

When looking to see if I could find a picture of a Makom brooder I found an ad for an auction in the Hutchinson Herald in November, 1944. There was a Makom brooder listed under machinery. Auction advertisement - HERE.

Sorry, I could not find a photo.
I was able to attend the first Vintage Market Days in two places in South Carolina. The one in Ladson was cooler, but the one in North Augusta was closer.  Several of the same dealers, but I will probably attend both of the fall shows.

I was impressed with each event.

See y'all!

Magnolia Ridge Antiques & Art Gathering 2017

Ridge Spring, Magnolia Ridge Arts & Antiques Gathering, vintage fair, architectural savage
The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.

Exhaustion from the kitchen renovation - yes, we are suffering.

Is it over?

No, not yet.

So on to the pleasant things I did manage to enjoy in the last two months.

Like the Magnolia Ridge Antiques & Art Gathering.

Because of the kitchen, I was not able to set up and sell, but there was time to shop.

No room to buy much.

The orange mail box is an iconic piece in Ridge Spring, SC.

It welcomes you onto the grounds of Magnolia Ridge which is a working farm and horse training site.

Familiar dealers showed up to sell on a glorious May Saturday.

All kinds of vintage items.

Yes, even the kitchen sink!

The back of the farmhouse with its red roof and deep back porch.

I was looking for crates and architectural items and there was no lack of them.

Among several small items was this pair of sidelights from a doorway.

They were mine!

(I was to first to spy them or they would not have been mine!)

Just needed a bit of cleaning.

Not sure what to call the type of glass - sort of lacy.

Looks like ice.

Beautiful green patina.

Unfortunately they are too long for over the counter in the new kitchen.

I am hanging on to them in case I find another place to use them.

On the way out of Ridge Spring we had to stop at Stuff & Things.

Found the old bench.

I posted it on Instagram as the perfect piece for the new laundry room.

Alas, after the washer and dryer were delivered, it was in the way of the dryer door by two inches.

C'est la vie!

Not sure if I am keeping it.

It may be headed to the booth.

I will admit to some laziness - I have gotten quite addicted to posting on Instagram.

However, every time I think about leaving the blogging world, something draws me back in.

Like friends.

See y'all!

Vintage Market Days - Ladson, South Carolina

vintage market days, junkin trip, meeting bloggers
On Friday I drove down to Ladson, South Carolina, for the first Vintage Market Days in this area.

The dealers filled both a small and a large exhibition hall surrounded by outside dealers, food trucks, and live music.

Beautiful weather - sunny, but very windy.

The first booth as you walked in was filled with goodies.

I am sorry I cannot tell you her name.

She had left her cards at home.

This plush velvet sofa sold quickly.

One of my favorite booths was The Dove Cote Brocante.

You can find her on Instagram.

Jewelry, furniture, and delightful images galore.

See the large rabbits?

Mohair animals of all sorts.

While in this booth I heard my name being called and spied a friendly face.

Sissie of Sissie's Shabby Cottage - it was so nice to finally meet in person.

Sissie knew I could be found where the doll heads hung out!

Her sister was kind enough to take a photo.

Phyllis, my sister-in-law,  drove down from Atlanta.

We shopped for several more hours.

I met  Beth of Olde Tyme Marketplace from Marshville, North Carolina.  (Website HERE)

This is where I learned a lesson about these big shows.

If you see something you want, grab it!

A large space filled with furniture and architectural salvage.

The booth stayed packed.

A great idea for old drink crates who have lost their luster.

This was my favorite booth.

Pancake Hill - Ingrid can be found on Instagram under Pancake Hill.

I did buy several items from here.

I really desired and lusted after the green table.

Kept circling around until -GASP! - it had sold.

I also loved the cubby cabinet, but not sure if it would fit.

I did enjoy the show.

There will be one in North Augusta right up the road from Riverfront Antique Mall in May.

I have my tickets already!

See y'all!

Magnolia Ridge - The Gathering

Magnolia Ridge Antiques & Art Gathering, farm sale, vintage merchandise
It was a "GO" for the Magnolia Ridge Antiques & Art Gathering.

Chucks and I packed both trucks and headed for the farm on Friday afternoon.

Heavy rain was predicted for Friday night so I only packed my tables, metal items, and square things.

We wrapped a gigantic tarp over the stack and tied it down with yards of rope.

It rained all night - poured down - almost two inches.

Packed up two more truck loads Saturday morning.

We arrived in a slight mist and overcast skies, but the sun came out.

The wind was gusting all day across the field you see in the background.

It was cool enough to wear a sweater.

In late May.

In the South.

I admit to being obsessed with colors and shapes when arranging my merchandise.

I really loved this spot and hope to get it next year.

A huge field behind with a peach orchard and a pine forest.

Under a oak tree.

Arranged in a V shape to invite customers in.

Olive from Olive Out came to sell a few things and to help out.

A big thank you!!!

SHHH! Do not tell her she found her way into a photo.

Had an assortment of items from small to large.

From $1 to $68.

From child to adult.

A little known fact: when Davy Crockett went to battle at the Alamo, he took his little red horse umbrella with him.

A collector of Crockett stuff had never seen one of these.

However no one bought it.

And it was cheap - $8 !!!

All the pictures were taken early - around 8:30 AM.

Storm clouds behind us - sun in front.

On the way home it was misting again, and we were too tuckered to unload.

Chucks invented the instant carport.

The idea served two purposes - it covered the entire pickup and the tarp dried out.

How did I do?

Well, we took four truck loads and returned with two large loads.

Here's a shot of the Blazer.

Here's a shot of the pick-up.

All items have been marked with their booth number and item number.

They are all available in either Booth W-10 or Booth C-23, Riverfront Antique Mall.

What I am up to next?

Rest and relaxation.

Thank you to the Magnolia Ridge Farm family for all the hard work! A job well-done.
