French Label Table

I managed to finish the makeover on the little brown end table.
Paint for thirty minutes, throw it in the back of truck, wait for another break in the rain, and repeat.

Krylon Greek Stone spray paint - two light coats.

Folks, I have been calling this Creek Stone.

Then I put on my glasses.

Creek Stone is a better name - it is greenish gray.

Just like a creek stone.

 Sanded all over.

Especially the top.

Had to get it very smooth ...

...To apply a coat of Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Lace. 

Used a fine grit sanding sponge and a rough paper towel to burnish the finish to a low gloss.

Used a French label from  
The Graphics Fairy.

Reverse printed on waxed paper for the transfer.

Distressed Donna looks on with approval.

Notice the sun came out when I was trying to take the reveal pics.

Ten minutes after, the rain came down in buckets!

Thank you very much for all the emails and FB messages about the extreme flooding here in South Carolina.

We are lucky the city of Aiken is mostly on a ridge.



Many of my beloved shopping places were flooded in Columbia and Charleston.

Please send prayers to those people.

We know how to prepare for thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes, but rain which NEVER stopped, overwhelmed us.

Unfortunately of the trees uprooted by the saturated ground was Maid Marion, one of our beloved White Oaks.

She fell for over half a block.

In the last few weeks an arborist and an engineer had figured out a way to stabilize her upper half. 

There is a pile of short logs for people to take a piece away.

Hopefully the city will continue to saw off pieces.

And the rest will be used as mulch in the parkways.

She will be missed.

Maid Marion

This is Maid Marion - one of Aiken's famous trees.

She is over 160 years old and over 200 feet high.

For perspective, the brick wall is eight feet high.

Behind the wall in the lower left you can catch a glimpse of a house with a red chimney.

Alas, Maid Marion is ailing.

Decades ago tree wisdom had the hollows cemented and blocked up.







Not a good idea - the moisture can do more damage than good.

Rot is not the cause of her ailment.

She has been seen by two tree surgeons, and the news is not good. 

Maid Marion is weak and cannot be healed.

Though she has had several surgeries over the years.

Another arborist has been called in to see if there is anything to do for her.

If no Robin Hood appears, Maid Marion is doomed.

She will come down.

We will grieve her loss.

We do love our trees.
