Friday Finds

vintage finds, estate sales, antique plaster/wood cabinet
Treasures to turn your head this week.

 From the most mundane ..

Bed springs - excellent for displays.

Steps so I can reach the new kitchen cabinets if they ever arrive.

A basket with two foreign language textbooks.

An old canvas bag found under a workshop table at an estate sale.

Containing three signal flags.

A red and white enamelware pot holding ...

A pile of 1950's era girl's dresses.

In my delight at finding these, I quite forgot I would not have a washer for at least three weeks.

Framed porcelain tiles.

What really turned my head was this very old cabinet - probably pre-1900's.

Very distressed.

I have carefully brushed the dirt from it.

Next step is to stabilize the plaster..

See how she turns her head?

That is the handhold to open the door.

Maybe a spice cabinet?

Must save the patina.

A quick tip:  use a foam brush to dust books.

Picks up more than a brush.

We have headaches from listening to reciprocator saws tearing out most of the kitchen, laundry room and pantry.

It is actually exhausting having other people do the work.

Who  knew?

Promised photos of the demolition to follow.

See y'all!

Due to construction, I will be unable to set up at the annual Magnolia Ridge Antiques and Art Gathering. However, I will definitely be a shopper!  Hope to see you there.

Friday Finds

vintage finds, funnels, spools, tool boxes
A hunt through Horror Monster, my beloved craft stash, netted a truckload of treasures to take to the booth.

Most of my colander collection is now gone.

Downsized my funnel collection.

No one really needs thirty funnels, do they?

A few had the star spout.

Let it go!

I found many small bottles and jars displayed throughout the house.

Selected a box of ones no longer desired.

Let it go!

SPOOLS!

Man-oh-man, did I ever have spools.

Found this basket of spools in my bins of fall decor.

No wonder I never used them.

Did not have a clue where they were.

Three bottles of ordinary tiny spools.

A basket of threaded spools.

SPOOLS!

Let it go!

All this was moved two months ago or maybe longer to the side yard from the front porch.

Waiting for me to make a decision about my tool and tackle box collection.

Decided to send away ten of them.

Let it go!

Springs - been around for years anticipating a fantastic craft project using them.

Know what they are?

I left a clue in the middle back.

Let it go!

Finally there was silverware and silverware and silverware and ...

Bundled like with like and sent them off to the booth.

Let it go!

So Horror Monster has started slimming down.

I am beginning to like empty spaces.

I may have to go hunt down some furniture for the booth, but I have crossed most smalls off my list for now.

There are more treasures to be found right here in my house.

(Am I already missing my funnels?  YIKES!)

Did you guess right? The springs are from old hair curlers.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

Vintage finds, baskets, vintage furniture, thrift stores, Low Country Crawl
I bragged to some of you last weekend about NOT buying one thing for days.

Well, that streak ended this past Tuesday when I went on a Low Country Crawl with my niece Leia for her birthday.

This is an annual event so I really could not turn it down.

We shopped at four thrift shops and one antique mall between Summerville and North Charleston, SC.

A lime green rubber kangaroo and a tiny pink ceramic something (bunny?).

Both need cleaning.

A great assortment of baskets.

An old straw hat.

Stacks of books.

Bags of rusty springs.

Round Italian floral tray.

Black floral tray.

More baskets.

Assorted kitchen gadgets.

Small plant stand.

And that is all of the smalls.

Leia also purchased a few items for baby shower decor and prizes.

Now for the biggies!

We hit one thrift store right when they were pulling out all the furniture from the back.

This mauve bookshelf caught my eye.

I claimed it.

A mauve cabinet.

I claimed it.

Two Pennsylvania House end tables.

I claimed them both.

By this time the furniture manager was standing beside me writing sales tickets as the workers hauled out stuff.

Remember I was 130 miles from home and had to take everything with me.

Then a guy rolled this right up to me and said he knew I wanted this primitive chest.

YES, YES, YES!!!

Another customer tried to take this away from me, but the manager told him it was on my ticket.

HAH!

Two large mirrors.

This particular thrift store is unlike other stores. They insist on loading your items.

All of this fit into the back of the Old Coffin Carrier (My S-10 Blazer - she is 20 years old this week!)

Leia, the manager, and I fit it all together like a jig saw puzzle.

I did have to bungee cord the back window to close a two-inch gap.

And Leia and I were a bit squeezed in the front seats.

Off we went for a delicious long lunch (Mexican) and solved all the problems in our lives and the world.

Then I started home.

Anyone who has traveled Highway 61 between Bamberg and Highway 17 knows it is mostly desolate.

Which means you can fly.

Like 65 MPH or more fly.

So how did I end up with the mauve cabinet in the front passenger seat?

As I was cruising at a high altitude speed, a car coming toward me kicked something up in the air.

Came down under my car.

KER-POW!!!

Instant flat.

I drifted over until I was half off the road.

This iron rod was the culprit.

It is seven inches long!

The hottest day so far this year - 93F in the shade.

Swamp on the left of me.

Swamp on the right of me.

I waited for over an hour.

Thank goodness for AAA who figured out where I was. (There are few landmarks on this stretch of highway.)

Thank you, Phillips Towing (Ruffin, SC) and Benny for finding me and changing the tire.

I had to move the pink cabinet to the front seat so the flat tire would fit in the back of the truck.

The tire was gone and the others needed to be replaced.

I hope all that load will pay for a new set of tires!

(This was the first blow-out I have ever had.)

See y'all!

Friday Finds

cabinet photos, baskets, vintage finds, certificates
A nice collection of smalls for you this morning.

I love to collect old photos of children and babies - and odd people!

Notice the two identical pics of the baby in the back?

How crazy is it - I bought them two years apart in two different states!?!

(Play Twilight Zone music here.)

A drawer with mod Contact paper.

A vintage record player stand.

Decided what I will do with the 50, 75, or more frames I have collected.

Unfortunately, painting is involved.

The frames may sit around for awhile.

I have two large boxes of shoe stretchers - I love these all-wooden ones.

A heart-shaped glass dish with a silver top.

Some children's plastic rosaries and several strands of beads.

The prayer card has a thumb rosary which I had not seen before.

I am low on baskets at the booth.

These need freshening up.

Someone tell me which coffee came in this can.

PBN of Jesus.

A heart-in-hand bridge club ashtray.

Two brass door plates.

Herb garden sign and guess what, I leaving it the way it is.

Surprise!

The correspondence school certificate I will keep for awhile. I always grab them.  I am after another dealer's cemetery school certificate she has decorating her booth.

Another tool bag for my collection.

Three ornate resin plaques.

This adorable homemade clown outfit is so vintage and so precious with little jingle bells sewn on the front, sleeves, and legs.

I will list this on Etsy as soon as I figure out how to photograph it.

Last, some rust.

A small square of springs.

Perfect for hanging on your wall!

See y'all!
