Kitchen Pantry - Before and After

Kitchen pantry, renovation, Southside Gallery, sheep print, Cabinets
The kitchen pantry is actually an odd hallway between the front foyer and the main kitchen with doors leading to the dining room and the laundry room.

I finally found a sheep print I love.

Had it made at Southside Gallery. (Facebook page HERE)

Notice the one on the left has a slight smirk.

Before - as you walk in from the foyer hall.

It was a depository for paint supplies.

And junk.

A portion of Horror Monster, my ONCE beloved craft stash.

Before - from the kitchen.

The tall pantries were removed and replaced.

We put up with this off-center, buzzing fluorescent fixture since 1990.

To its credit we only changed the light bulb twice in all that time.

On the day of its demise, it did not buzz one time.

I think it knew what was coming!

Yes, we call it a pantry, but no food was ever stored here.

Assorted tools, hardware, paint, and garden supplies.

In no particular order.

The cabinets and soffits are gone.

The ceiling and buzzing fixture are gone.

Ceiling ripped out and new wiring installed.

Three new centered LED lights.

A couple layers of flooring removed.

Now this is what you see walking in from the front foyer.

And the new floor-to-ceiling cabinets.

One side for tools and hardware.

Neatly organized.

One side for all my paint supplies.

Neatly organized.

After - from the kitchen.

My Granny's chair and the patchwork pillow she made.

It's a prized space in the kitchen now.

And Horror Monster will NOT return here.

He is NOT welcomed.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

primitve furniture, vintage finds, downsizing
My Friday Finds this week are from Horror Monster.

Downsizing is getting harder - I am down to things I loved at one time and may love again.

Like this primitive rocking chair.

You notice one side is askew.

I have had it for about twenty years.

It has held my Santa collection, toolboxes, dolls, and stacks of quilts.

Off to the booth where I hope it will find a loving home.

This school desk - once green - sat in my aunt's house for her grandchild to play school.

Then it was passed on to me.

It sat on the front porch for years.

I brought it inside to hold a collection of vintage reading books.

Off to the booth where I hope it will find a loving home.

The red and blue shelf was painted by me way back in 1993 when we completed the first kitchen renovation.

No room for it in the new color scheme.

Off to the booth where I hope it will find a loving home.

A chainsaw folk art tree.

I used to have a small bear - long since gone.

Off to the booth - blah, blah, blah.

I have not had this school desk for more than five years.

I no longer have a need for it.

Off to the booth - blah, blah, blah.

This wrenches my heart - I am not sure I can part with it.

I am driving around with it in the back of my truck.

A primitive plant stand used in the dining room for ironstone displays.

Off to the booth - you know the rest.

The red bench I made from a cornice board many years ago.

Used for my cookbook collection.

Willie slept under it.

He keeps looking for it.

Off to the booth ...

The only thing I bought this past week - a picnic basket.

The easiest thing to send off to the booth.

No emotional attachments.

There are a number of estate sales this weekend.

There is only a bit of space in the house.  Most of the kitchen is now in the living room.

Monday the appliances will be moved to the dining room.

I will post details of the renovation.

My word for May is TRUST.

(Thanks, Olive!)

It is a hard one.

See y'all!

Due to construction, I will be unable to set up at the annual Magnolia Ridge Antiques and Art Gathering. However, I will definitely be a shopper!  Hope to see you there.

Horror Monster Vanquished

decluttering, junk overhaul, orgainizing craft supplies
Niece Leia came to stay on two different weeks in March to help me vanquish Horror Monster, my beloved craft stash.

Leia is one mean organizer!

But I was ready and surprisingly, the junk pile became smaller and smaller.

We have an "L" shaped galley kitchen starting with this ten-foot pantry hall.

Horror Monster had strayed way, way beyond his boundaries.

There are pantry cabinets across from this area filled with paint and tools.

The main kitchen leads down to an attached breakfast room.

Horror Monster had totally overtaken this space except for the spots for Scout's and Willie's dog beds.

This was the back corner.

Shelf supports held shelves for a collection of tins.

That was the kitchen table under the left junk.

The primitive Hoosier was packed with craft supplies.

The other side of the breakfast room held a pie safe filled with dishes.

The oak dresser is used as a microwave stand for my 1980 microwave.

Fans of my fudge forbid me to get rid of the behemoth.  It makes wonderful candy.

And it held quite a variety of craft paints.

During the day, Leia and I would pack box loads of stuff for donation and for the booth.

All of the boxes were dragged to the den where we worked late into the night tagging and packing.

On the last day Leia was quite pleased with the progress.

In all, we hauled out FOUR truckloads of stuff.

And customers are loving it.

Gone are a box of rubber stamps, most of my tins, all the Brown Bag cookie molds, bags of craft supplies, and piles of vintage kitchenware.

The breakfast room now - devoid of Horror Monster.

Some projects waiting to be completed.

Basically this room is ready for a new floor.

I am keeping the knotty pine paneling.

Chucks and I actually are the only two people on the planet who love the pine.

And Horror Monster?

Well, most of him resides in the primitive Hoosier cabinet.

A mere shadow of himself.

All the kitchen and dining room furniture is in the living room.

I still have to finish clearing all the cabinets and setting up places for the refrigerator and microwave in the dining room.

Of course I will remove all the cabinet doors and drawers to sell.

Reusing the handles - they are vintage.

I promise to keep you up to date with the changes.

Chucks, Azalee, Miss Peepers, Willie, Scout and I plan to stay in this house during the renovation.

Unless we turn on each other.

Or go insane.

See y'all!

And this is NOT an April Fool's joke.  I really did get rid of Horror Monster!

Friday Finds

vintage finds, funnels, spools, tool boxes
A hunt through Horror Monster, my beloved craft stash, netted a truckload of treasures to take to the booth.

Most of my colander collection is now gone.

Downsized my funnel collection.

No one really needs thirty funnels, do they?

A few had the star spout.

Let it go!

I found many small bottles and jars displayed throughout the house.

Selected a box of ones no longer desired.

Let it go!

SPOOLS!

Man-oh-man, did I ever have spools.

Found this basket of spools in my bins of fall decor.

No wonder I never used them.

Did not have a clue where they were.

Three bottles of ordinary tiny spools.

A basket of threaded spools.

SPOOLS!

Let it go!

All this was moved two months ago or maybe longer to the side yard from the front porch.

Waiting for me to make a decision about my tool and tackle box collection.

Decided to send away ten of them.

Let it go!

Springs - been around for years anticipating a fantastic craft project using them.

Know what they are?

I left a clue in the middle back.

Let it go!

Finally there was silverware and silverware and silverware and ...

Bundled like with like and sent them off to the booth.

Let it go!

So Horror Monster has started slimming down.

I am beginning to like empty spaces.

I may have to go hunt down some furniture for the booth, but I have crossed most smalls off my list for now.

There are more treasures to be found right here in my house.

(Am I already missing my funnels?  YIKES!)

Did you guess right? The springs are from old hair curlers.

See y'all!
