Friday Finds

flea market, vintage market, vintage finds, tiny chairs
On Saturday morning after the Vintage Market Days, Phyllis and I woke up early, had a quick breakfast at the hotel, and took off for the Ladson Flea Market.

Spied this tattered and torn jewelry case.

Opened it to find cute pins - especially the horse ones.

The dealer priced everything separately but accepted my offer of a one bundled price for all.

I know I should have washed this old vanity mirror first but I didn't.

Heavy round glass with a pie crust edge.

A brass base.

Made to be placed flat on a vanity.

A wire basket, a quilt for Chucks, and an old ice tray.

Always on my list - little chest of drawers and small ladders.

These two have had makeovers and are in the booth.

A very large serving tray, a black oar, and a wooden paddle.

Too sweet to pass by - two kindergarten chairs painted white with green polka dots.

Bought a white Samsonite suitcase - convinced it matched the train case from a previous week.

Alas, they are two different styles - one in oyster and one in white.

Set of three blue and white USA cups.

It pays to dig in those gross boxes under the flea market tables.

Found the Log Cabin Syrup bank in one.

So what did I buy at the Vintage Market Days fair?

Well, the prices were a bit high for cheap me.

But I did find these new sugar molds to use for a future project.

For the new kitchen (still waiting on cabinets) an old grain sack and a Mexican bread tray for the table to be reveal later.

To be honest, the table top is riding around in the back of Chucks' truck and the base has not been started.

A galvanized top to a feeder.

Not sure if it is a keeper or not.

Great architectural piece.

One side chippy white.

And the other side chippy green.

A definite keeper.

Finally a cute shirt just for me.

So it was a weekend filled with junkin', flea marketing, and eating.

And Friday Finds!

Friday Finds

thrift store, vintage finds, suitcases, doors, primitives
It was the perfect trifecta - sidewalk shopping, thrift store discount day, and Habitat sale day.

A pair of lovely turquoise French doors that remind of Joanna Gaines.

They came quite a roundabout way from Olive Out.

A pair of old screen doors.

As you can see the doors are in Booth W-10.

Thanks, Liz, for this primitive beauty.

Handmade shoeshine box.

Came with real dirt!

One tweed suitcase.

Two large brown suitcases.

One blue train case.

A large green and yellow cupboard door.

Come back Sunday for its makeover.

Two flambeaux.

Look, Fonda, a globe and dictionary stand!

I've finished this makeover also.

I've been a painting fool.

I found a box of reference books.

Harold loved his dictionary so much, he engraved his name on it!

I love red levels to display bottle brush trees - this one just level enough to show my poor brick barrow no longer even pretends to be level!

A leather briefcase.

These make great magazine storage.

I have polished all the cases.

I have fluffed some stuff.

I am on a painting spree.

Be prepared to be wowed!

Friday Finds

estate sales, vintage finds
Chucks and I went to two estate sales last weekend and came home with some great items.

Both sales were conducted by new-to-me estate agents, but I signed up to get email alerts because I was very impressed with the way the items were arranged, the professional way the sales were conducted, and the reasonable prices.

The first sale was for a event planning company downsizing their inventory.

There were multiples of everything.

A good mix of old and new.

Round green plant hangers.

Iron lantern hangers.

A primitive blue bench.

A beat up small box.

A black iron candle sconce - very medieval.

A very large frame.

Two worn suitcases.

A piece of oak from a piece of furniture.

At the next sale I found this small chest of drawers in the garage.

The drawers are numbered 6,7,8, and 9.

I could not find what was 1,2,3,4,and 5!

While loading the truck I found the rusty metal grate.

Two benches.

A large basket.

A gold frame.

An old work light - all metal.

What was in the large basket?

A quilt heart.

An oil can.

A berry basket of cookie cutters.

A small basket.

The number 2 (3 on the other side) blew across the Kroger parking lot - not part of the sale.

A tin of clothes pins.

A check box of drill bits.

An assortment of old jars with various hardware.

A distressed metal drawer filled with more hardware.

The first sale was run by Carolina Estate of Mine - what a delightful name.

The second sale was run by Smart Move - Thanks, Leasa and Marilyn!

Willie and Scout have been obsessed with hunting down the baby snakes in the liriope.

I take my snakes seriously and do not appreciate the two pups killing them.

I do not wish to be overrun by mice!

Chucks and I have managed to save a couple of them from certain death by dog.

However it was too late for this little cutie.

Scout was found chewing on his stiff little corpse.

I placed him in the nest on the windowsill.

Funeral arrangements to be announced at a later date.

See y'all!

My Etsy shop is on vacation so I can clean up a bit and clear out items lingering too long.

Friday Finds

thrift shops, vintage finds
I knew it was a great day when I walked into the thrift store and was met with the greeting, "So glad you are here. We have a bunch of old stuff to get rid of."

I had to recite my new mantra under my breath for several seconds before diving in.

"I do not have to own every single treasure.  I am not a hoarder.  I will restrain myself."

And by the time I had finished, several items had been snatched up by other shoppers.

First this lovely lady - an ironstone wash basin. White with blue floral design.

Yes, delicious brown patina.

Anchor Pottery
J.E.N.
Trenton, NJ
Semi- Porcelain

Made between 1890 and 1920.

A generous 17" diameter.

I have three wash stands and not one will hold her.

She will go to the booth.

Because: I do not have to own every single treasure.

My customers love my suitcases - especially the extra large flat ones.

It went straight to the booth.

I love market baskets like this one.

I have a graduated set of them including one this size.

Since I have so many, this one will be going to the booth.

Because:  I am not a hoarder.

The wooden message box with the glass knob, you will see transformed on Quickies this week.

The pewter bowl is lovely and will be sold.

A glass floral frog.

A beautiful piece of ceramic art.

It is a bud bowl sometimes called a pansy bowl.

Add water and arranged the pansies around the opening.

It is now on Etsy.

The gray dresser and several other pieces of furniture sold over last weekend so I bought this MCM cabinet with sliding doors.

You will see it soon.

It is on the list to be painted this weekend.

Hen egg basket.

A brass urn.

A cute hand carved mouse.

The largest cricket box I have seen.

It will be listed on Etsy.

Two Victorian frames.

Slight damage.

A folding bed tray with all its working parts in great condition.

The paint is a little distressed.

The tray can be positioned four ways to draw or write or sing in bed.

Imagination time.

I did not dare remove this lighting fixture until I make it to the booth with it intact.

I am a total klutz and have almost dropped it twice.

So here is half of it.

Two long pendants of cut glass with white/gold iron pieces and chain.

They are twins and hang from one ceiling mount.

They absolutely scream,
"Nous sommes Français!"

A very fierce Beethoven.

Maybe he is trying to hear.

I know he is not French, but he would look wonderful sitting under the above lights.

A free plaid bowling bag so decrepit it has crumbled.

Will be using it for a poinsettia.

Yes, it is time for bottle brush trees.

A round-up of ones Olive of Olive Out found for me at the Salvation Army.

Yes, I have been bleaching trees twice a week.

Last, but certainly not least, my own personal slices of Maid Marion.

The city spent several days slicing her up in different lengths for people to take.

Now I have to figure out how to get the slices dry and what to do with them.

I am not shopping today - staying home and painting.

Because: I will restrain myself!
