Friday Finds

vintage finds, vintage dolls, pewter pitcher, Americana
A few smalls for my Friday Finds.

From a church sale I bought six Album of Americana dolls.

The dolls have never been out of the boxes.

However the boxes are in poor condition.

Inside each box top is the history of the woman featured.

Molly Pitcher.

 Mary Todd Lincoln.

Betsy Ross.

Barbara Fritchie.

(Hint at the bottom of post if she is not familiar.)

Dolly Madison.

Martha Washington.

All of the dolls are quite glamorous especially Martha.

These are from the 1950's.

A brass basket.

A quart-sized pewter pitcher marked James Yates.

The tankard/pitcher needs further research into the value.

On my way for boiled peanuts and BBQ for the Saturday football games, I stopped at a community yard sale.

An old cotton lace-edged slip.

I followed a guy around to see if he would put down the lovely hand-knit sweater he was carrying around.

When he went to check out, he noticed a small hole and decided he did not want it.

I do!  I do!

Always needing baskets for displays.

And books.

This is the third week I have shopped at this house.

They are moving and assure me everything is gone.

We'll see.

They told me the same thing the previous week.

And a huge box of magazines.

As always I am torn between hunting for junk and watching football this weekend.

Nothing yet looks too interesting.

See y'all!

Barbara Frietchie
Up from the meadows rich with corn,
Clear in the cool September morn,

The clustered spires of Frederick stand
Green-walled by the hills of Maryland.

Round about them orchards sweep,
Apple- and peach-tree fruited deep,

Fair as a garden of the Lord
To the eyes of the famished rebel horde,

On that pleasant morn of the early fall
When Lee marched over the mountain wall,—

Over the mountains winding down,
Horse and foot, into Frederick town.

Forty flags with their silver stars,
Forty flags with their crimson bars,

Flapped in the morning wind: the sun
Of noon looked down, and saw not one.

Up rose old Barbara Frietchie then,
Bowed with her fourscore years and ten;

Bravest of all in Frederick town,
She took up the flag the men hauled down;

In her attic window the staff she set,
To show that one heart was loyal yet.

Up the street came the rebel tread,
Stonewall Jackson riding ahead.

Under his slouched hat left and right
He glanced: the old flag met his sight.

“Halt!”— the dust-brown ranks stood fast.
“Fire!”— out blazed the rifle-blast.

It shivered the window, pane and sash;
It rent the banner with seam and gash.

Quick, as it fell, from the broken staff
Dame Barbara snatched the silken scarf;

She leaned far out on the window-sill,
And shook it forth with a royal will.

“Shoot, if you must, this old gray head,
But spare your country’s flag,” she said.

A shade of sadness, a blush of shame,
Over the face of the leader came;

The nobler nature within him stirred
To life at that woman’s deed and word:

“Who touches a hair of yon gray head
Dies like a dog! March on!” he said.

All day long through Frederick street
Sounded the tread of marching feet:

All day long that free flag tost
Over the heads of the rebel host.

Ever its torn folds rose and fell
On the loyal winds that loved it well;

And through the hill-gaps sunset light
Shone over it with a warm good-night.

Barbara Frietchie’s work is o’er,
And the Rebel rides on his raids no more.

Honor to her! and let a tear
Fall, for her sake, on Stonewall’s bier.

Over Barbara Frietchie’s grave
Flag of Freedom and Union, wave!

Peace and order and beauty draw
Round thy symbol of light and law;

And ever the stars above look down
On thy stars below in Frederick town!

Now you know about Barbara Fritchie including her name is spelled two ways!

My Booth

Booth W-10, Riverfront Antique Mall
Last Sunday I hauled a load over to Riverfront Antique Mall to stuff as much as possible into my booth.

I rearranged by color to have an Americana theme area.

Sorry about the pics - I dropped my camera and it refused to take more than five photos before telling me its memory was full.

So all these were taken between customers with my phone.

I must have been quite sleepy when I doctored these photos.

In May, large items were selling so I packed in more large items.

Guess what?

Smalls are selling like hot cakes for June!

I call this area outside my booth (two feet into the aisle) my front porch.

Mantiques reside here for now.

Turquoise and toolboxes.

More luggage.

This area had been neat, but as I was taking photos, someone put all the baskets in the floor.

When there is no more space on the floor,
I go
up,
up,
up!

I use crib springs to display items like these numbers.

I do sell the springs.

I try to have everything in my booth with a price.

NFS's do not pay the rent.

A whole corner of the back room is devoted to books.

I do not sell my crates.

I know, that breaks my NFS rule.

Also in the back room are items from different holidays.

Yes, I sell Christmas, Halloween, Easter, and Valentine's all year long.

That was how the booth looked last Sunday.

Changes have been made.

Items have sold.

On Tuesday I will spend the day loading in new items.

It's the circle of junk.

BTW - I was sitting staring at my camera (I have had it for years) and cursing its stubbornness about working, when I remembered dropping it on the carpet.  Could that light fall have affected it?  Well, I took the memory card and the battery out, put them back in, and ...

VOILA!

That stupid, er, great camera works again!

Hi, Ho, Silver, and away!

See y'all!

Friday Finds

vintage dolls, Ernest Lee, vintage finds
I have greatly curtailed my buying in order to turn around the great masses of treasures piling up in the house.

We are in the midst of an intense heat wave and all painting must be done early - like when the sun rises.

I could not pass up these tattered and torn Raggedy Ann's and Andy's.

They look quite patriotic - I'll add a flag or two.

Great price on a great chair.

She was a beauty in her day I am sure.

She needs a lot of love.

Her upholstery is shot and her springs are dragging the floor.

Surgery may be needed.

Check back later for the patient's progress.

It was just too hot to drag this heavy dresser out to take a pic and then shove her back in the truck.

I have no idea why "Out, Out" is written on her bottom.

Not sure if sanding to distress her or painting her is the way to go.

Check back later.

A design store (Material Things) with wonderful fabric is moving and having a fantastic sale.

I dare anyone to say they can resist fabric.

You will see this distressed blue and beige linen as chair seats.

Check back later.

I bought stacks of samples.

They can be used in framing, pillows, and tied in bundles to place in a basket.

As I was paying for my fabric, I happened to look down to see two original paintings by South Carolina outsider art legend Ernest Lee.

This is a patriotic theme painting of ...

Red, white, and blue CRABS!!!

Ernest has a wicked sense of humor.

Ernest Lee is known for his funky chickens.

I started many, many years ago collecting his work.

Ernest is quite the character if ever you get to talk with him.

He is slowing down and his son is now selling his work.

His chickens always have an attitude.

Check out this Southern Living article on Ernest Lee HERE.

Last, but not least, when someone asks you to help drag a huge trellis to the street, you agree and drag it straight to your truck!

I will be up at 5:30am the next few days trying to get some painting done and spending the afternoon in the pool.

No hunting for treasures this weekend.

However, I said that last week.

Be sure to check back later.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

vintage suitcases, Pyrex, Sterling China, American flag, carved angel
A short vacation last week has overloaded Friday Finds this week.

Two lovely brown suitcases - one monogrammed.

At Booth W-10, Riverfront Antique Mall, North Augusta, SC.

Hooked rug - keeping for the top of a blanket chest.

Laura Ashley valances are going to the booth.

These outdated Waverly custom shams will be washed a few more times to get them really faded.

I know someone wants these so I will take them to the booth.

A ruffled Ralph Lauren rosebud pillowcase.

Rachel Ashwell floral duvet cover and striped king sham.

Tiny springs will be kept for a project.

They are about 3 inches high.

Two ladders have joined my dwindling supply at the booth.

This one has carpet nailed to the steps, but the wood underneath is in good shape.

This tall one is my favorite.

Love the V-shaped support in the back.

It is an old one with all kinds of make-do repairs.

Missing the Spring Blossom under dish for your gravy boat?

I have this one listed in my Etsy shop for $6.

A pretty little Sterling cream pitcher.

Look at the details.

Meakin for $6 in the Etsy shop.

Already sold.

Thanks, Tammy!

A 1940's glass candy container.

I did not realize how many different figurals there are of these.

This one is missing its lantern top.

It will be going to Etsy.

The prize of the week is this pair of vintage Ray-Ban aviator Bausch & Lomb sunglasses in the original leatherette case.

A pair of vintage round glasses.

Four pairs of vintage Day Vue sunglasses with different magnifying strengths.

One pair still packaged.

Vintage coloring books.

Perry Poppitt has wonderful illustrations.

And at the top of every junking list are music books.

Bicentennial flag - stripes are sewn, but not the blue field of numbers and stars.

Where were you in 1976?

I was on the Battery in Charleston, South Carolina, watching the jets and later the fireworks over the harbor.

Books and books of S&H Green Stamps.

As children if we went to the store for groceries, we got to keep the stamps to save for a premium.

I cannot believe someone did not redeem these.

This lovely hand-carved acacia wood angel was found back in December at a craft fair.

I have kept her on the mantel because she reminds me of my word for this year - Peace.

I needed a gentle reminder peace does exist in the turmoil of recent events.

See y'all!

NOTE:  I updated my coupon code for my Etsy shop.  I was embarrassed to find out my coupons had expired.  There are new listings for you to browse.  Enjoy!
