The Ice Witch Cometh

Southern Ice storm, Jim Cantore
The Ice Witch cometh to the South on Tuesday night.

All day she kept visiting - long past her welcome.

This is NOT snow.

It is between 3 and 4 inches of sleet covered by freezing rain.

Jim Cantore, the sexy guy from the Weather Channel, was here - not a good thing.

We were without power from 4AM to 11AM.  Then again from 1PM to 5 PM.

We are currently holding our breath.

Overnight more freezing rain, cold temps and falling limbs will probably disrupt electrical service again.

Two limbs fell at the end of the drive and promptly froze to the concrete.

I am curious:

Do you say the power or the electric?

The dogwood is standing tall even with all its icy covering.

This is mid-morning.

 The urn in icy splendor.

Seating for four under the Crape Myrtle tree which is usually standing up straight.

It could have taken a lesson from the dogwood.

 Poor Lambie!

I do not think he will survive the snow from two weeks ago and then this deep freeze.

I did remove the water can collection from the stoop so we would not trip over them.

I did not venture past the first step.

Way too icy.

Willie and Scout did romp a bit in the backyard, but when the limbs started falling, they banged on the door to come back in.

Those of you who live in tall pines know that creaky, crackling sound they make when iced over.

I know two big trees fell somewhere in the neighborhood - both shook the house.

No major damage here, but I can see a large oak limb across my camellias at the back fence.

We are being warned trees will be falling tonight.

The coffin carrier and the pick-up are resting comfortably in the driveway because we are not about to attempt a road trip.

Besides, nothing is open.

Why is one facing one way and the other the other way?

Chucks and I had a slight disagreement about the best way to park the cars in case we had to get out.

Mr. Frog, the rain gauge, says four inches of sleet is all he can take.

He is hoping for spring rains soon.

At dusk I have to forgive the Ice Witch a tiny bit.

The soft blue of the yard is beautiful.

Now go away.

Go away, Ice Witch.

The Ice Witch Go-eth!

I know it was Karma that sent the Ice Witch since I published two posts bragging about the sun.

I honestly do not know how those of you in Northern climes can take this all the time.

See y'all!

  1. Sounds awful although the photos are beautiful....especially poor little Lambie! The pine trees are just gorgeous all covered in ice. I pray your "power" stays on. That's what I call it. Stay warm and make some more tags...:)

    Blessings, Vicky

  7. Wow, your photos are beautiful, but falling trees and power outages are not a good thing. I feel a little guilty, like we're hoarding all the sunshine here. Oh, well, we'll be crying when summer comes and there's a drought and we can't water our lawns or flush every time. :O Thanks for your visit to my blog. Have a great weekend! ~Lorraine

  8. Oh dear. I will never forget the sound of all of the popping and then the crashing of trees falling. At first it was mesmerizing...then it was horrifying. We lost hundreds of trees and the clean up took us 2 years. We were without power for 13 days. I did not love it. I still dread ice storms and I feel for ya. I kind of want to come and rescue that lamb.

  9. I wondered if you lost power! We've been lucky, but all our family in Walterboro has been without for almost 24 hours. A tree fell on my MIL car too! Go away Ice Witch! I did stay home from work yesterday and I'm staying home today since my car is frozen to the driveway. Take care Donna!

  10. I was thinking of you last night when I heard about this storm. Ice storms are both beautiful and scary. I'm so glad you're staying put and not venturing out. It's much too dangerous. I hope you didn't lose power again. Stay warm.

  14. 1st time to your blog and I still can't stop laughing at "the coffin carrier", we always called our cousin's Vista cruiser the "grocery getter", you brought back some great funny memories and now I have an awesome new name for my bro's Yukon!
p.s. the ice is horrible no matter where you live, I hate when the trees hurt!

  15. My heart go's out to you-We expect this type of weather here in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, but you poor dears just don't experience this often. We have had storms, back to back and feet of snow with that bone breaking ice on top. You begin to check you insurance policy before trying to go get milk and bread.!
As the saying go's ...this too shall pass. wonderful pictures, by the way!!

    Take care and be safe.
    Warm hugs,

  18. I didn't see this post and hadn't noticed that you had posted since the storm. Thought, like us you were without internet connection and electricity. It has been awful here and we have been declared a state of emergency, as if I didn't already know this! I worried about you and Olive. Take care, We still have lots of clean up and repairs, but we are safe. Praise God!
