A Bench - Distressed

The bench is short and so is this post.

I am distressed with the heat ...

 and the bench has been distressed.




This is the story.

I bought a white bench.

I planned to paint it, but too hot.

I sanded it.

A pretty gray revealed itself.

The temperature reached and then exceeded 100F.

The bench reached and then exceeded my expectations.

A short, white bench - distressed.

End of story.

I warned you it was a short story.

Serene Blue Tool Chest

It was an odd tool chest, but had possibilities.

I chose Americana Decor Chalky finish paint in Serene.  

(Not paid or given free samples!)

I forgot the before pic, but you can see it HERE.

That seventies orange finish - sanded it - just took a few minutes.

Took the hardware off first.

I punched the screws into waxed paper.

Put all hardware on a screen...

... and used Rust-Oleum in Hammered Rosemary.

It is so #$%^&* hot here, projects have to come inside for the paint to cure.

Sanded with a fine sanding sponge and a rough paper towel.






Two coats of Americana Decor Ultra Matte Varnish.

The Serene blue tool chest is so pretty, I decided it was more suited for ruffled froths of lace.

The tool chest is designed to be opened this way.

However I liked it opened from the top.

It seems more practical.

It is quite lovely sitting in the sun.

It kept its cool as I perspired way past a glowing sheen while taking pics.

Of course it is distressed.

Ready to be loaded and taken to my booth.

Mr. Scrumble's Turquoise Day

Meet Mr. Scrumble.

He is my favorite go-to brush for quick paint job on rough surfaces.

Recently Mr. Scrumble and I had a turquoise-y day.

I bought this "gate" on the Peach Tree 23.

At least the seller told me it was her "gate".

No hinges and no latch.

But in good shape.

Placed it backside up on a painting frame.

Flipped it over to paint the front.

Mr. Scrumble is an expert in getting paint into the cracks.

Since the surface was rough, I sanded it smooth.

Distressing it a bit more in the process.

Mr. Scrumble rested in the shade while I worked.

Very pleased with the result - I can see this "gate" inside or outside.

Another ladder - it wanted to be turquoise, too.

Mr. Scrumble and I agreed.

We were not picky about full coverage of paint.

Just slapped it on there.

Turned out to be a turquoise beauty.

Both the gate and the ladder are available in Booth W-10, Riverfront Antique Mall.

Mr. Scrumble had a luxurious bath in shampoo and conditioner.





He will be ready to tackle another paint job soon.

Friday Finds

I have greatly curtailed my buying in order to turn around the great masses of treasures piling up in the house.



We are in the midst of an intense heat wave and all painting must be done early - like when the sun rises.

I could not pass up these tattered and torn Raggedy Ann's and Andy's.

They look quite patriotic - I'll add a flag or two.

Great price on a great chair.

She was a beauty in her day I am sure.

She needs a lot of love.

Her upholstery is shot and her springs are dragging the floor.

Surgery may be needed.

Check back later for the patient's progress.

It was just too hot to drag this heavy dresser out to take a pic and then shove her back in the truck.


I have no idea why "Out, Out" is written on her bottom.

Not sure if sanding to distress her or painting her is the way to go.

A design store (Material Things) with wonderful fabric is moving and having a fantastic sale.

I dare anyone to say they can resist fabric.

You will see this distressed blue and beige linen as chair seats.

Check back later.

I bought stacks of samples.

They can be used in framing, pillows, and tied in bundles to place in a basket.

As I was paying for my fabric, I happened to look down to see two original paintings by South Carolina outsider art legend Ernest Lee.

This is a patriotic theme painting of ...

Red, white, and blue CRABS!!!


Ernest has a wicked sense of humor.

Ernest Lee is known for his funky chickens.

I started many, many years ago collecting his work.

Ernest is quite the character if ever you get to talk with him.

He is slowing down and his son is now selling his work.

His chickens always have an attitude.

Last, but not least, when someone asks you to help drag a huge trellis to the street, you agree and drag it straight to your truck!

I will be up at 5:30am the next few days trying to get some painting done and spending the afternoon in the pool.

No hunting for treasures this weekend.
