My Primitive Chest


primitive chest of drawersNot every sixty-one year old would tout the traits of having a primitive chest.

But I do when it is a handmade, homemade chest of drawers.

Notice that each drawer is a different width and the wood spacers between the drawers are different.

Each leg is slightly different.







This is how she looked.

I loved the quirkiness at first sight.

I thought I would paint it.

The old pull handles are different sizes.

I thought I would paint them.



There were at least a gajillion spider egg cases.

 I swept them off into the side yard.

 Chucks wanted to know why I release them into the wild instead of bundling them into the trash can.

 OOPS!  I may end up regretting that decision.

 Luckily I like spiders.





After cleaning came the sanding.

And I thought why in the world would I ever, ever consider painting this beauty in the rough.


The top had a super thick coat of black over silver paint.
















The body was tan, black, silver, and blue.















The handles were sanded to reveal pure patina.












A thorough waxing and basking in the sun.
















No repairs needed.

 No tightening.

 No straightening.

My primitive chest - what a beauty.

 Does not fit anywhere in my house.

 Three neighbors measured it for their houses.

 NOPE!

So reluctantly I took her to my booth where I hope she finds a new home to love her as she is.

 I do not want to know if you paint her.

 I will cry.

    Oh, that chest is perfection! The soon-to-be hubby I think would actually like this piece and let me put it in his office. Too bad I'm not closer!

    What a Primitive Beauty!!! If I lived closer, I would have marched right over with my measuring tape in hand, also!!! UGH!!! I wish that you could keep her in your Guest room, at least!!!
    She would be Stunning off to the side of my Kitchen, and I would not touch the finish at all, as she would fit in here too nicely.
    You are able to Capture the true Heart of any piece that you find.

    She's a beauty and I agree, she doesn't need a paint job. It would cover up all her character! Hopefully someone who can love and appreciate her will end up with her. Have a blessed and beautiful evening!
