Blue Bird On Bermuda Sand

Vintage table, distressed painting, Valspar Bermuda Sand, Color transfer
Now back to transfers.

I promised an advanced course, but it seems life has gotten in the way of me completing a tutorial so we will continue with tables painted in ...

Bermuda Sand.

I am wondering just how many times I can say "Bermuda Sand" without you clicking "Close Tab"!

Well, you did stick with me through my "Sweet Pea Pink" stage - you must be a steadfast bunch.

Found another of those nifty occasional tables.

Found it right in my house.

Did it look this bad?

Yes, but was covered by a pile of vintage linens.

First a heavy duty sanding.

Next a couple of coats of Bermuda Sand.

I toyed with the idea of staining the top and the medallion underneath, but the finish was not that great.

The real Distressed Donna is back there curtsying because it was sunny and eighty degrees the day I was doing makeovers.

Looks perfect, doesn't it?

You knew I was going to distress it.

Then that little medallion thingy was staring me in the face wanting a bit of bling.

And I was feeling disappointed with myself for enjoying the outside and not working on the advanced transfer tutorial.

So ...

I decided to give you a sneak peek of advanced transfers - in living color!

I dug out a waxed paper transfer I had neglected to use straight from the printer.

The trick here is to remember which side has the ink and lightly dampening the surface where you plan to lay the transfer.

DO NOT MOVE IT!!!!

Follow the same directions as before.

Notice this image is a blue one.

Distressed Bermuda Sand, spray matte varnish over the blue bird, and a clear coat of wax to seal the deal.

Practice your transfers, folks.  We will be moving on to more color transfers soon - like next week.

See y'all!

  2. Donna, great job. I love that swallow motif - finding it hand-worked into vintage linens, beaded purses and china is always a treat, and your table can be grouped in that list now too.

  8. I love the idea of the little blue bird on the medallion at the bottom. It's unique and unexpected. You've got a hit on your hands here, for sure. Your last couple of projects have had such fun structures too. But if it's only occasionally a table, what is it the rest of the time?

  22. Your bluebird looks just like the image on "Bluebird China". I love them, but they're such a high priced collectible. So, I'm in love with your table, that birdie is just the perfect little accent!
