Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

In April, 2012, I decided to grow my hair long enough to donate to Locks of Love.  This is in honor of my goddaughter's daughter.

Katelyn, now 11, is a five-year survivor of two bouts of childhood cancer.  Read about Katelyn's fundraiser for Alex's Lemonade stand here.

Well, fourteen months later, today was the day to get all that hair chopped off.

It has been years, maybe even decades, since my hair was this long.

It was definitely time for it to go!

I know the photographs are a bit frightening, but even Pic Monkey could not improve the way I look!

Here is my very best impression of Cousin Itt.

You know, the Addams Family.

At Studio M my stylist, Jeri Hunt, measured and deemed the hair long enough and proceeded to divide it into two pigtails.

(As long as I have been going to her, I have never noticed those giant lips!)

ACCCCK!  Two pigtails whacked right off!

No turning back now.

Then the hair was whisked into an envelope.

As you have noticed I do not wear make-up except for a little blush and Chapstick. After seeing these photos, maybe I should invest in some make-up.  This length is about where I started.  I rather like the short swing of my hair.  It will be a lot easier to wash, dry, and style now.  I did receive a couple of compliments from people and kisses from both Willie and Scout, the dogs.  Of course, Chucks wanted to know if I would be growing it back out.

What is it with men and long hair?

See y'all!

  1. You are beautiful in both hairstyles- long and short! I guess I prefer short....because of where the hair went! :)

Congratulations on such a meaningful gesture!

  4. What a wonderful thing to do. And you look so cute in your short style. Makeup is highly overrated - you look great without it.

  8. You have gorgeous hair! The new cut is adorable and your donation to Locks of Love was a wonderful tribute to your goddaughter's daughter. I have wondered about that fascination men have for long hair. Maybe it goes way, way back to a time that when a man needed a companion he just grabbed her by the hair and dragged her home! :)

  14. I love the new look and growing your hair for such a great cause is awesome. My hair is the longest it's been right now also. I was thinking of cutting it off. Not long enough for donation though. I don't wear a lot of makeup, just a little base with sun screen and mascara.

  24. You are beautiful with the long hair and the short. My grandma always said that beauty is as beauty does. You are so beautiful on the inside and it totally comes though on the outside, too.
I will say that the short cut makes you look much younger.
    God bless you,
    Your blogging sister, Connie :)

  26. Love the haircut. And I don't have any idea what it is that men like about long hair so much. It's not as if I actually LOOK like any of the women you see in the media with long hair - nor do most women - and neither do 95% of the other women in the world! Very nice of you do donate the hair.

  28. What! No kisses from the smock with the lips? :) You are beautiful with no makeup, Donna. I cringe at the sight of my dark circles and spots from years in the sun when I have no makeup on. You are so smart too. Not to have to color your hair or waste time and money on makeup is something I wish I had the strength to do. The new cut suits you and is so stylish! Congrats on reaching your goal and helping out a worthy cause!
