Friday Finds

I managed to shop for about 30 minutes this past week.

Found these two early wicker floral display baskets.

One has the original galvanized insert.

Winning the award for the tiniest find is this brass cricket or trinket box.

Two windows and two drawers.

Never found a wood and zinc ladder before.

Quite attractive.

It is in pretty good shape.

Now for book fair finds.

I have been buying the discards.

Like these three Webster's unabridged dictionaries and the large Medicology.

A massive hunk of words.

Volumes One and Two of the Gourmet Cookbook.

A complete set of a British encyclopedia.

Winston's.

A group of French books.

A French dictionary and novel.

Part of a set of classic novels.

Three volumes of a Britannica dictionary.

The complete set of 1894 Encyclopedia Britannica!

Some flaws and cover damage but the insides are pretty good considering the age.

Of course I have been scoping out the old reading books.

Yes, Patty, I am still searching for old Alfred.

As you read this, I am probably hard at work.

Or maybe shopping.

AAUW Books 'N' Things Fair

Most of you have been commenting on this notice at the bottom of my posts for the last several weeks.

This weekend is the big sale - Friday and Saturday.

This is the AAUW Aiken Branch's big fund raiser.

It is one of the largest of all AAUW chapters.

We need to raise at least $30,000 to fund our scholarships and local literacy programs.

This year it will be located at the Riverfront Mini-Mall located right across the bridge from Augusta, GA.

Just 20 minutes from Aiken, SC.

I will be featuring photos of the sections of books, music, and attic treasures over on my Facebook page each day.

All the books are sorted by fiction/nonfiction.

Then by genre.

Then by author.

Then alphabetized.

There are close to 100,000 books awaiting the crowd of book lovers and booksellers. 

All are welcomed to buy as many books as possible.

I usually buy by the truckload.

Hardbacks are $1 and paperbacks $0.50.


Special books are priced at 25% of their retail value.

 ATTIC TREASURES

Attic Treasures are across the back of the building.

This group has worked hard to display all the items and price them very fairly.

I love this dollhouse.

No, I will not buy it.

I must remember I am downsizing.

The back room of Attic Treasures is packed full from the floor up.

I hope if you are near, you will come and shop for a good cause.

I will be busy helping with the final sorting and then working during the fair.

Friday Finds

For her birthday my sister-in-law wanted to go to the flea markets in Columbia.

Well, I certainly could grant her wish.

We all jumped into my brother's truck and off we went.

I had a list, and except for wire baskets, I found most of the items.

A brass cricket box.

Medium size.

This adorable child's hanger.

A Texas Fruitcake Co. tin depicting some history.

I was very interested in what was inside.

The top was sealed shut with grime.

Finally it released.

Inside some vintage button cards, buttons and spools.

Snow skiing buttons!

I am picturing a ski sweater.

When we arrived home, I unloaded everything from my brother's truck and put it all in the Blazer before the rains came.

Green shutters.

Could have used lots more.

Kerosene can and an aluminum basin.

Out of buckets.

Found four tucked under a table.

A small purple ladder.

A slightly larger painting ladder.

A tall, distressed, splintery ladder.

It has rungs on one side and steps on the other.

I'd take the ladder apart to use both sides on the wall.

Or ceiling.

A family portrait before taking extreme baths and being tagged and dragged to the booth.

While walking around Riverfront Antique Mall, I found this 1951 Wise Potato Chip tin in great condition for a low price.

Could not resist.

So far not much advertised for hunting this weekend.

I cannot promise not to shop - I might sneak some junkin' in sometime.
