Friday Finds

Thanks to all of you who listened to my rant about my new camera. 

I have decided to sit and sift through everything without interruption.

In the meantime, I am using my phone camera.

 
Thank goodness for iPiccy.

So sit down with my Distressed Donna doll and see what my Friday finds are this week.

Well, duh, if I am sorting books for the AAUW book fair, there will be books.

Boxes of them.

Look!

I found more tiny translation dictionaries.

And the German reader.

This book was threatened with the fate of being taken to the landfill.

YIKES!

Marbleized cover with quarter leather panels. 

Marbleized end papers.

One volume of many.

We could not find the others.

Genghis Khan.

He needed saving.

More Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.

Let's throw in Cherry Ames.

Also found some Trixie Belden.

Searching for Donna Parker - she was my favorite. 

I have hauled out boxes of Reader's Digest.

I have a customer who is an event decorator and uses them in floral arrangements and table decor. 

An early three-volume set of Les Miserables.

In English. 

A child's guide to worship designed and illustrated by Enid M. Chadwick in conjunction with a priest of the Community Of The Resurrection. 

Printed in February, 1962, in Mirfield, England.

Great graphics and vintage typography.

Sold to me as galvanized shelves.

I am thinking heavy-duty tool chest trays because the wear is only on the bottom.

Future project.

A set of History of the Bible - several volumes are missing.

Some mold - cleaned with white vinegar.

Love the gradient of cover colors.

A little yellow swivel desk chair.

About second grade size.

A four-drawer chest - popular item in the booth. 

Very sturdy little fellow, but his white is deceiving.

He needs cleaning, sanding and a paint job.

I got through this whole post without a camera rant.

Planning a trip to Columbia for a flea market run this weekend.

Well, that will make me very happy!

Green Dresser #1

There are those who have never seen my volcanic temper.

If you had been living with me for the last week, you would be sporting lava burns.


Cameras are simple things.

Easy to figure out after playing around with them.

I found a point and shoot for the blog to replace my old Kodak Easy Share who has a mind of its own.  

Taking beautiful photos which download promptly to the computer, but it is very hard to photograph your objects with a blank screen.

So I followed the directions on the new camera, downloaded the software, registered the camera, took a few photos, and attempted to transfer the photos to the computer.

Could not find the camera.

REALLY!?!

Went back through all the directions FIVE times.

Could not find the camera.

REALLY!?!

I can plainly see the camera plugged into the USB port.

So I took photos with the phone.

Transferred them to the computer.

All photos are in there somewhere, but I. cannot. find. them.

REALLY!?!

So here is a poor, poor post about a little dresser who deserved better.

Plus her big sister is lost within the bowels of the computer.

Calming down now.

The rant is over.

You may remember the two MCM dorm furniture dressers I bought at a recent estate sale.  (Read here.)

The smaller was painted white and filthy.

Major cleaning inside and out.

Drawers removed and left in the sun to air out.

The dresser did not need any gluing, tightening, or anything.

I used an OOPS Valspar Chalk paint - new to me.

As I was painting, I thought it was a grayish white.

BUT it turned out a lovely soft green.

The only known photo of the dresser finished and in the booth.

Well, I am back to digging through the innards of my computer to find those photos.

And try to get it to recognize the new camera.

Friday Finds

Somehow this past week disappeared.

And I forgot to write about my Quickies project or a painted furniture project.

But suddenly it is Friday, and I do have a few finds.

My cousin is downsizing her Christmas angels so of course she gave them to me.  She also gave me an envelope filled with memories - I will share that later.

I have been sorting books for the book fair.

Trying to save some stuff from the recycling plant.

Like this box of Nat Geo's.

Chucks likes to read them.

And this box of Southern Living's.

Distressed Donna likes to read them.

I am working in special books where books with a connection to our area and state, old books, book sets, and new editions are priced differently than the general section.

I buy some of the discards like this French Reader's Digest Grand Atlas Mondial.

(Or World Atlas)

All in French - great addition to our atlas collection.

I had to save Simone, Louisette, and Julia - even though the book is in poor shape.

Two more cookbooks.

Novels with pretty covers.

Mostly Daphne Du Maurier.

Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.

Hardy Boys and Perry Mason.











In the general section there are thousands and thousands of books.  Paperbacks are fifty cents and hard backs are one dollar.

People travel for miles to attend the sale. 

If you are within a hundred miles and love books, it will be worth coming the first Friday and Saturday in March.

************WEEKEND UPDATE*************

I was outside painting when I dropped my camera. So the next few posts may have wacky half-camera/half-phone pics.

The camera was willing to let me transfer all my photos to the computer.

<WHEW!>

And it takes beautiful photos still.

However I cannot see the photos because the screen is blank white.

The poor thing has been dropped numerous times, painted more than I want to confess, and took a brief dip in a bucket of water over the past seven years.

I may have to purchase a new torture victim.

Back to sorting books and looking up prices.

Country Blue Cupboard

Sometimes a blue cupboard needs to stay a blue cupboard with a little help from a sander.

Remember this country cupboard from Friday Finds (HERE)?

Bought at an estate sale.

Horrible paint job.

I started sanding it down to paint.

And discovered this primitive distressed beauty.

Layers of natural pine, dark brown, and white under all that blue. 

Chucks said to leave it alone.

My neighbor said to leave it alone.

The walkers who stopped to see what I was working on said to leave it alone.

So I left it alone.

And returned my can of dark blue paint to the paint cabinet.

Scrubbed out the bright white interior.

No wax or varnish in case the buyer wants to paint it.

Folk angel approved.

I was pretty close to keeping the blue cupboard, but sent it off to sell.

Until it sells, it is perfect for displays.
