Sofa Springs Salvation

I am always on the hunt to harvest rusty springs.

I hunt high and low.

But sometimes I find them right on the side of the road.

As you know the better sofas have eight-way tied springs in them for support.

So if you spy a sofa sitting on the side of the road, stop and take a look.

It might be time to do a little sofa spring salvation.

I found this beauty recently.

The roofers had stripped it of all the cushions and foam - they use it for knee support.

I thought surely someone had removed the springs.

I peeked underneath and there they were.

Giant springs.

Rusty springs.

Waiting to be saved.

I keep my trusty pink toolkit in the truck for emergency salvation projects like this one.

Mostly it takes patience to get the springs out of the frame.

Clip and twist.

Clip and twist.

The springs are really tied eight times so you have to clip each one eight times.

It was quite the harvest - a number of sofa springs were saved.

I would have saved more but Chucks called in the middle of this salvage operation to let me know he had been waiting and waiting for us to go eat.

Oh, right, I forgot completely about that.

Looking at my rusty shirt and hands, I promised to be home in a skinny minute.

Of course I had to hide the springs before arriving home.

Wouldn't want to hear what Chucks would say about another bag (or four) of rusty springs.





Sorry I have been missing in action.  First I had one nasty stomach bug which refused to leave me alone.

Then Saturday morning my computer sent me a message that Windows XP had been out all night long and had become corrupted.  Bad, bad girl!

She went in Monday morning for an update to Windows 7.

She is now pretending to not know who I am.

It is taking me time to learn all her new tricks.

Just wanted to let y'all know I am not ignoring you.

I'll be back again when Miss Thang recognizes my camera and lets me load some new photos.

When A Fellow Junker Asks ...

When a fellow junker asks me if I would like to drive down to see a house he is cleaning out, I jump at the chance.


When we drive up to the cottage, I am in awe at the whole yard - both front and back - filled with the beauty of spider worts and dandelions.




 

I have to take photo after photo.

My friend will have to chop most of them down to meet certain codes.

He has given me permission to dig up some clumps for my yard.

I can envision this cottage cleaned up and given a new coat of paint.

But it would be the yard that would sell it for me.


Even though his neighbors want it gone.

I did get a few things.

A Sears Craftsman saw box - just needs cleaning and waxing.

A gasoline can - for the rusty deliciousness of it.













Six red wire Pringles display shelves.

Always a help in the booth.

I love the patina of old tarnished silver.

Even when it is NOT silver, but silverplate.

 
I love the look of an oversized cake server.

 

I love the ornate design of this pattern.

I am now ready to swap for something else.

I've had it in a display of old tarnished pieces.

It would be lovely altered with some rhinestones.

Maybe an upscale garden tool.

Atomic Age Tables

 When I first saw these two tables - handmade - probably plant stands, I immediately thought Atomic Age.

Just something about the shape.

I have had them since last fall thinking about distressing them.

Then inspiration struck.




Hammer them with Rust-Oleum Hammered Rosemary paint.

<I do not get any money from Rust-Oleum - though I would not turn down a gift card or two.>

But I am in love - head over hammered heels with Rosemary.

The columns were made from old pieces of wood with finished birch plywood for the legs and tops.

Just a boring finish - slightly sun damaged.

But look at the feet - missiles, right?

Space ships, right?

1950's, right?

Don't look at my patio - I have not finished cleaning away winter debris.

Yes, the cover is still on the pool, but notice peeking through the ginger lilies - a newly redone shed.  (I will show you later!)

I digress.

This is after the first light coat of the metallic paint.

You can see the distressing in the wood columns.

I did a second coat.

I was so busy arranging them in front of the distressed shutters, I cut their feet right out of the photo.

I am loving them in the metallic green.

10, 8, 6, 7 ...

Okay, I really typed the numbers in that order - I am leaving them that way!

The two tables look quite at home in the ginger lilies and clematis, but they are not staying.

I have no room inside and no covered porch for them to shine.




So they are now in my booth at Riverfront Antique Mall in North Augusta, SC.

(I added that because readers have asked where in the world is the place.)

Another project hammered by Rosemary.

Yes, I have others in mind, but Home Depot (who also does not give me money though I am there a lot - at least on days when I am not in Lowe's!) has RUN OUT of Hammered Rosemary!

I only bought six cans so other people must love it as much as I do.


I do plan to paint furniture this week with regular old paint.

I'll be sure to show you.
