To reduce the number of books sitting around doing nothing, I made altered stacks of books.
Used up quite a stack of them along with twine, lace, keys, and other bits.
I do not use my vintage photographs.
I copy them on vellum.
They are quite see-through.
Cut them out with deckle-edged scissors to fit the front of the stack.
Some vintage lace attached with glue strips.
A tag or a key or a rusty star.
The stack of loose pages is secured with thin twine.
I make sure the ornamentation is below the people in the photo.
A fake hydrangea.
I think I love the sides as much as the fronts.
If you are going to alter one, you might as well alter a stack of books.
And decorate them in many ways.
Just think maybe a descendant will buy one and never know they are related.
If you are my age, you will remember the photographer who walked around the neighborhood with his pony.
We also had a photographer with a goat cart.
The stirrups are dated 1952.
Clever photographer!

Vintage Inspiration Party #184
Feathered Nest Friday
Really neat idea!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a stack of books that are falling apart that are in my "to do" pile of book stacks. Although, I didn't have nearly as clever of an idea as you did for re-purposing as you did...
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I like the sides as much as the front. When I'm out scouting around, I usually buy a few of these. Adorable!!
ReplyDeleteNot an original idea in this? I got inspiration for displaying books, printing old photos on vellum(!), and the term 'deckle edged'.
ReplyDeleteLove Love the books! I have a photo of me on a horse! Yep the guy in the neighborhood came and my parents had photos of me and my brother. I would love to make altered art books with some old family photos. Just need to find some time...yikes to that!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda

ReplyDeleteI love your altered books!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea! I'm sure they'll sell like hot cakes!
ReplyDeleteLove the altered books and how you embellished them!
ReplyDeleteI am inspired!!
These are so pretty Donna! You make the coolest things! I see these flying out of the shop! Have a great week!!!
ReplyDeleteLove look of your altered books. Where do you find your vintage photos? Where do you get your vellum you can put thru a printer? I tried using regular vellum, it gummed up my printer something awful so had to find printer friendly vellum paper. Used to get it at Walmart and Office Depot but they both stopped carrying it. I love to print things out on vellum to put over other images beneath. It's such a great look.
ReplyDeleteLove all the neat things you use to embellish your altered book bundles. They look really nice on a staged table or mantel for example.
Please let me know where you found your vellum. Contact me at FurryKidzPaperworx@gmail.com Thanks Happy week and Easter
Oh how fun - I hope you sell many!
