On a sunny, but chilly, day last week, I set out to clear away the winter debris and the rusty relics from Horror Monster's outdoor living area on the side of the house.
Remember Calvin, my yard guy, and I cleaned around the shed previously. Read here.
We pulled out everything hiding in the shrubbery and under the piles of oak leaves.
I found a long section of fence I had picked up off the road . . . u-u-h-h-h . . .
Well, to be honest - three years ago. I promise I was going to use it as a trellis, but my wire cutters would not cut it and there was part of a tree grown into it. (Wish I had taken a picture of that!)
Calvin and I took my handy-dandy new cutters from Tractor Supply where the salesman guaranteed they would cut through fencing. We cut the long section into ten pieces of equal lengths of rusty goodness. Just needs some rebar hammered in the ground and wire this fencing to it and you will have a trellis.
We piled everything neatly up off the ground so I could sort through and throw away what was no longer useful.
As you can tell, I could not let go of a pile of old screens, several animal traps, and quite a few planters.
Oh, yes, there is that huge gate back there.
Two pogo sticks - Christmas gifts in the early sixties. I know this because I rescued them from a shed at a house where two girls I knew lived.
I remember being jealous when I got a scooter from Santa and they got pogo sticks. Turned out they wanted scooters.
I tracked one down to see if she wanted her pogo stick. She asked, ":Why?"
Pogo sticks.
Cleaned,
Sanded.
Waxed.
See my azaleas back there? They look beautiful for two days and then the blooms begin to fade. They also have no leaves right now. I love big showy azaleas, but these just will not die, and I don't have the heart to chop them out of the yard.
One giant caster - it weighs a ton.
Cleaned.
Sanded.
Waxed.
Some other treasures unearthed from the shrubbery include a metal typing table. a couple of buckets, and a pile of stall latches for a stable.
I spy some bed springs on that ramshackled wooden table.
Three graduated barrel hoops.
Cleaned.
Sanded.
Waxed.
All of these cleaned, sanded, waxed items have also been tagged and taken to the antique mall where new owners can adopt them. Horror Monster growled a little as he realized his rusty relics were not going back to their places. In fact, his treasures seem to be disappearing.
Just you wait, Horror Monster. I am coming for you inside the house next!
See y'all!

Wow, you're ambitious! I hope you inspire me to do the same this spring - if spring ever gets here. lol
ReplyDeleteI wish I had the energy you have, you found some really cool things, I think someone would love them...exactly how do you wax them and make them for sale, would love to know how you do all that...
ReplyDeleteI'm getting tired just looking at this pile of stuff and managed to sort, clean and wax it! WTG girl. The monster is losing!
ReplyDeleteYou are soooo funny! If someone called me from long ago and asked if I wanted my pogo sticks back I would definitely think they were a little cray, cray! More power to ya! You have worn me out just reading about your monster attack!
ReplyDeleteWow - look at you go girl!!!
ReplyDeleteNow get into that kitchen and rattle those pots and pans - or sand and wax them at least LOL
XOX
Love all your rusty bits Donna.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Donna... you have so much awesome stuff! You're doing a great job battling horror monster. Your winning your war one battle at a time. Way to go!!! Love those rusty rings!
ReplyDeleteLots of good stuff! Thanks for sharing...Connie
ReplyDeleteThat must have been satisfying, getting all that done! I can't wait for that spring cleaning urge to hit. I'm waiting for sunshine and a warm breeze before I start. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are the queen of great junk. The queen, I tell ya! I wish I could have been there when you had all this piled up. If you had called me about the pogo stick, I would have cried tears of joy and hugged you and whisked my pogo stick home and probably hung it on the wall to my family's dismay. I have great pogo stick memories, including a pogo stick accident whereby the inner part burst through the top while pogoing. It came up as I went down and it caught me under my chin and made me bite through my tongue. I still have the scar under my chin. Don't ask why, but that's a great childhood memory. :0 I guess because the scars always tell a story. Those were great and dangerous times. I feel sorry for today's kids who aren't allowed to do anything lest they stub their toe and get a boo boo! Anyway, you brought back memories and I love that fencing and the caster too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pile of junk - no offense. I just love rusty things. Wish I had some of those.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,
Bev

That girl probably thought you were nuts to ask about her pogo stick! Love all your rust!
ReplyDeleteYour fencing reminds me of an old lobster trap I saw on the side of the road when we were on a bike ride. I would have loved to drag that piece back for the garden, but no way could we lift it.
ReplyDeleteI would be curious to see what the caster becomes when someone grabs it.
I love rusty stuff! Looks like some great finds. Thanks for linking up to Give Me The Goods Monday link party! Can't wait to see what you link up next week ;)
