Warning: This post is chock-full of photos. Ever since I erased every picture for four years from my camera, I have felt an overwhelming desire to fill up the memory card with new ones! So sorry - you will just have to deal with it.
Meet Sassy Sally and Lula Sue. As usual I have the baskets in the wrong order. Lula Sue is on the left and Sassy Sally is on the right. Yes, they are sporting beautiful Hobby Lobby hydrangea and are sitting right next to the Eiffel Tower!
Sassy Sally started her new life in a sad state. At one time she had been a purse - sporting a green ribbon and a quilted floral liner. She also had mucho, mucho dust in every crevice.
I ripped and ripped until I had to pull out the pliers to get that liner out. Then she was wire-brushed and scrubbed to remove all the grime.
Sassy Sally and Lula Sue sit on the painting screens waiting to be beautified. This is going to take a while - better get your Moon Pie and RC Cola!
First both were given a coat of Rust-Oleum Lavender spray paint.
Then they received a dry brushing of white over the lavender. Lula Sue in the front there has been distressed, but Sassy Sally has not.
I know, I know - it's hard to tell the difference - just humor me!
What's that - are they back out on the painting screen? What is hiding behind them? Why, it is Rust-Oleum Chrome paint left over from the Glitz Hack-off. What is going to happen? A light spray of the chrome all around, please, and hold the olive!
So pretty and shiny! Well, I'll fix that!
I sanded to wear down the finish along the sides and the handles.
Now you know if you are a regular reader there will be tags, tassels, tulle, French seam binding, torn cotton ribbons, or Frozen Charlottes involved. One or a combination of the aforementioned items. I chose tags, tulle, and lavender French seam binding. I used a little restraint. First the tags!
I went to the Grande Dame of Images - Karen, The Graphics Fairy and chose two images to work with - a frame (I wanted the sides) and a nosegay.
Then I went to Pic Monkey for the third time today. (Y'all, I have got to stop going over there - did you know this morning there was a spider web across the stack of dirty dishes waiting to be loaded into the dishwasher!)
I cropped the frame, added the nosegay as an overlay, and then distressed it to death and back again.
I forgot to upload a picture of the resulting tag so just squint and pretend you see it. Sassy Sally gave her OK, and we proceeded to the next step. (Notice she is receiving a tulle bow!)
These images were printed nine to a page on antique ivory 110 lb. paper.
I mixed a glaze of Folk Art taupe metallic and covered the entire sheet. The images on the right side have been glazed for an antiqued look.
A silver Sharpie paint pen was used to outline each tag before cutting them out.
I hole punched the tags, and lavender hole reinforcements were added.
Even I have to admit this photo is horrible - I think I made it worse by playing around with it. I wanted to show the lavender French seam binding ties on the tags. Trust me , they are lavender NOT blue!

Lula Sue's glamor shot.
(Lula Sue was the name of my mother's cousin - when I was young I wanted her name!)

Here the lovely ladies of the basket world sit all cozy until the big move to the new/old booth. There is Ruffled Ruthie, Lula Sue, and Sassy Sally sitting on Big Bertha. They are waiting patiently to be tagged and moved to the new/old booth which I still have not painted. It is sort of freeing not to have to go fluff and stuff the items in the booths. I can't wait to get it finished!
I have got chrome fingernails to clean and dishes to put in the dishwasher before the spiders get the wrong idea about living quarters!
.
Your baskets are so sweet! Love all of your little touches! Coming over from The Graphics Fairy and your newest follower. =)

What adorable names you've given your fantastic items. How on earth can you remember them all? Are all of the names from people you've known or have crossed your path one way or another? Do you put their names on the tags? I think potential buyers would get a kick out of that. Keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty, such a wonderful transformation. I love the colors you used and the pretty tags too. Thanks so much for sharing:-)
