Country Blue Cupboard

blue country cupboard, makeover, distressed furniture, primitive
Sometimes a blue cupboard needs to stay a blue cupboard with a little help from a sander.

Remember this country cupboard from Friday Finds (HERE)?

Bought at an estate sale.

Horrible paint job.

I started sanding it down to paint.

And discovered this primitive distressed beauty.

Layers of natural pine, dark brown, and white under all that blue.

Chucks said to leave it alone.

My neighbor said to leave it alone.

The walkers who stopped to see what I was working on said to leave it alone.

So I left it alone.

And returned my can of dark blue paint to the paint cabinet.

Scrubbed out the bright white interior.

No wax or varnish in case the buyer wants to paint it.

Folk angel approved.

I was pretty close to keeping the blue cupboard, but sent it off to sell.

Until it sells, it is perfect for displays.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

thrift shops, estate sales, dressers, baskets, vintage finds
I know I feel 100% now that I have three junkin' trips under my belt.

Several sets of hand painted tissue boxes and waste bins.

Great deal on these because someone at GW thought they were canisters.

An old rattan bathroom cabinet, a Mexican Easter basket, a large market basket, covered white basket, brass heart wall pocket, and flash cards.

Two folding rulers and a Red Devil scraper.

Just because these two were sitting on a shelf like this - a funnel and a roll of wire.

Two black metal photo holders.

Large tin fleur-de-lis.

A wooden medicine cabinet and a shelf.

An artsy photo of a beveled mirror - probably once part of a dresser.

An artsy photo of a washtub and a large freezer basket.

Okay, okay.

Not so artsy.

Too tired to drag out the stuff and take photos.

Or too lazy.

I made it my mission to find some furniture to paint for the booths - getting too low on inventory.

The two MCM dressers are not the same size or color, but they do match in style.

The country cupboard is 1970's - sturdy - practical - spray painted blue.

Very blue.

All will have makeovers.

On Wednesday I thought this would be the extent of my Friday Finds.

However I persevered.

Trudged forth to four thrift shops and one estate sale.

Happy hunting to all of you this weekend.

See y'all!

Second Verse Same As The First

bookshelf makeover, distressed painting, Krylon Chalky Finish Paint, Maison de StencilI felt the French Love Song washstand needed a companion piece.

So second verse same as the first!

Except this time it is a bookshelf.

Read about the French Love Song Washstand HERE!

I bought the bookshelf on the same day as the washstand.

Hence the same blooming hydrangea behind it.

The paint was a bit scratched and lumpy.

So I sanded the heck out of it.

Put it in the living room and used it for my ever-increasing book collection for several months.

After  completing the washstand I used the leftover Krylon Spray Chalky Finish in ivory.

Great coverage.

Used the same French Love Song stencil from Maison de Stencils as the washstand.

In the same French blue craft paint.

It is an easy stencil to use.

Then did the same to distress the song lyrics - sand the heck out of it.

Rather like this size bookshelf so I am already on the lookout for another victim, er, project piece.

I'm Henry VIII
I'm Henry the eighth I am
Henry the eighth I am, I am
I got married to the widow next door

She's been married seven times before
And every one was an Henry (Henry)
She wouldn't have a Willy or a Sam (no Sam)
I'm her eighth old man, I'm Henry
Henry the eighth I am
Second verse same as the first

I got…

So maybe I need to complete eight of these!?!

See y'all!

Quickies

quick makeover, Rust-Oleum Universal Hammered Rosemary paint
Or how a little shelf unit got hammered.

I forgot and deleted my before pics, but it was a brass-painted chrome shelf with Masonite shelves.

Used Rust-Oleum Universal Spray Paint in Hammered Rosemary after removing a few rust spots.

The paint is great for all types of surfaces and covers very well.

After the paint dries, the texture look appears.

Like magic.

I have used similar shelves like this in the bathroom hanging on the wall.

It was quick - most time spent waiting for paint to dry.

It took 30 minutes.

To get hammered.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

vintage finds, old bottles, vintage books, vintage photography
As I gradually became human again from the creeping crud leaving my body, I decided to go through some collections and downsize.

I started with two bins of bottles.

Here are a few I decided to sell.

Brown Clorox bottles, mustard, and olive jars.

More mustard jars and a few ketchup bottles.

Vinegar dressing bottles with little handles.

I went through the bin of books I have been saving back and read through all of them.

I could only stand to part with these.

The sweet blue French textbooks had to have vintage French ribbons tied to them.

American French textbooks.

The red Water Babies is the third impression of the first printing.

Dorothy's House Party has a lovely cover.

The Hoosier poet, James Whitcomb Riley.

My students loved to recite his poetry - they called him the first rapper.

HAH!

The book in back is filled with his poetry.

The Reader is designed to help teachers celebrate James Whitcomb Riley Day which I did not know existed.

Of course it was written way back when!

As I became able to drive, I went shopping.

I wanted to dig through other junk.

Found more vintage baby cabinet photos.

A set of Buffalo small restaurant plates.

I may have to keep these for awhile.

Chucks actually found these.

I walked right past them.

Must've been effects of the creeping crud.

Cages for poultry.

Fowl.

And last, but not least, this watercolor of cliffs and sea.

Love, love, love.

Keep, keep, keep.

Look at the frame.

I will be working to move thousands of books for the AAUW Book Fair this weekend, but hope to cram in a shopping trip.

Still in the seventies here and for the next week.

Spring has sprung.

Which means Old Man Winter is lurking in the background to strike us down.

And strike us down hard.

See y'all!
