Bits of Vintage

Yes, I am patting myself on the back again.  I went to several thrift shops over last weekend, but I just brought home little bits of vintage items.  Chucks and I went to an estate service store (they buy a household and bring it back to their building).  I did look very hard at several things and Chucks got nervous.  BUT  I did not buy a thing there.

At the Habitat store where it was Senior day (20% off),  I had to buy these few things.

First these two black wire baskets.  They are not really vintage.  Probably from the twentieth century :>)

After I get through with them, they will look ancient.  I promise to show and tell later!

I do a lot of paper art, but when the books are in good condition I cannot bring myself to destroy them.  After scanning them into the computer for future use, I will probably sell these song books.

Songs had a beautiful bookplate with an inscription.  Someone had glued in an extra song to the front cover.

You can see what happens when you do not use archival glue on paper items.  "Foxing":  those little brown spots found on books and prints.

I never pass up a book written in French (the small red one) or reading textbooks (copyright 1958).  The French book is in good condition with just a little foxing.

The reading book is a cutter (like a damaged quilt).  It has pages missing and a torn binding.  Plus it has been rebound sometimes in its life.  It will be used for tags and art pieces.

Buffalo China used in restaurants is something I will buy.  When I get a set of four matching pieces, I will sell them.  This small bowl is a recent one.  Usually I pass these by, but I am finding it harder to find the tan ones lately.

They are marked on the bottom and made of a heavy ironstone.

Chucks is so glad there is not any heavy items to unload and no furniture being painted in the front yard.  Of course, he has not look in the back of my truck!

See y'all!

I'll keep an eye out this summer for you for french books though - that's all you see here in Montreal - it's far harder to find English ones lol

  4. When will Chuck learn? Perhaps he already has learned to stay away from the truck to protect his sanity. I'm loving the old books, especially the reader. I'm always fascinated by the illustrations. I do have a hard time cutting things up unless I have at least two copies of it. My scanner hasn't been working, so I am stuck right now when it comes to digitizing the many pages from books I'd love to use for projects. My friend has stacks of old French magazines from the late 1800's through the 40's with fabulous ads. You would love them.
