Friday Finds

thrift shopping, vintage finds, vintage books, vintage music
A quick run to the SPCA thrift store to meet Olive Out (On Instagram) for a quick shop and lunch netted the white ironstone chamber pot, two volumes of Sherlock Holmes, and a German candy tin.

We had a great chicken salad and lemon bar.

Stacks of agricultural yearbooks on a variety of topics including crops and insects.

The blue book on the bottom is a study of lesions of the brain.

I thought it appropriate for my Fall display at the antique mall.

A very distressed white basket of large cones.

A set of encyclopedia missing two volumes.

The rusty red color means you could use these in vignettes from September to February.

Risers for your collectibles.

Yes, I'm lazy like that.

A blush chiffon wedding dress.

Never used.

Tags attached - $320 and size 10.

Available in Booth C-23, Riverfront Antique Mall for $48.

Halloween costume maybe?

The lace panels could be cut for projects, but I do not wish to know your plans for it.

I keep envisioning the bride wandering about wailing after the wedding was cancelled.

But that's my vivid imagination.

Stacks of music books - mostly for an organ.

One hymnal.

An aluminum colander.

As if I needed another.

A GRE textbook from 1965.

I bought it for the vintage book cover.

Remember those?

Okay, who can guess why I bought the cat door stop?

Because I thought it was an OWL!

An OWL sitting on a branch.

The clerk thought it was hilarious I mistook a cat for an owl.

I justified  the mistake by explaining I was hot on the hunt for an owl.

She laughed more.

See y'all!

  1. Hey there, Donna! Good to see all your newest finds, hope you are doing well. Oh that wedding dress is so pretty. I don't know why but it made me think of the ghostly bride at Disney's Haunted Mansion, must be getting ready for Halloween in my mind :) -Dawn / We Call It Junkin

  2. Better not tell Miss Peepers that you mixed up an owl and a cat! I love the wedding dress. I made a Halloween display for my booth one year with a distraught abandoned bride as the center piece.

  3. I love all the cool books you find! That wedding dress is pretty but kinda creepy also...it would make a great Halloween costume. You crack me up, Owl??? It is clearly a cat Miss Donna! LOL.

  4. Why don't you try painting the cat like an owl... like you envisioned!! I bet it would work!

  5. I want the chamber pot. Yep, I'm weird that way! I saw a beautiful one with pink roses and some kind of design that I passed up. It was probably too expensive. I want it for "The Sweet Room" — Katie and I call the guest room that. It would be fun to have a chamber pot in that room.

Got a story for you... When my two sisters and I were very young, my great grandma (Nunnie) was watching us for some reason. She spoke Italian and very little English. When we were getting ready to go to bed, my youngest sister said she had to go potty. Nunnie got my sisters coat and started putting it on her. My sister repeated that she had to go potty. Nunnie finished bundling her up. My sister remembered being so confused. What my Nunnie was doing is shuffling my sister to the outhouse. I think one of us might have ended up using the chamber pot, too, but I don't remember what that looked like. This would have been about 55 years ago in Washington, PA (south of Pittsburgh). All of my family lived there, except us. We lived in Columbus, OH. I don't ever remember using that outhouse, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

  7. I can totally see the owl! Poor bride, but I hope some sweet girl comes along, sees it and knows that it must be hers. Great book finds, as always. xo, T.

  8. Nice bunch of stuff Donna. I have several Chamber pots and don't think about what they were used for, but just enjoy using them in the bathroom to hold flowers or rolled wash clothes.

  9. It sorta looks like an owl now that you mention it. Do the books sell or you just use for display? That poor bride...hope she didn't go about wailing. He probably wasn't worth it.
