Friday Finds

thrift shopping, junkin', vintage finds, vintage crochet
Yes, I am back to my old junkin' ways - sorta.

The loads are small and most go directly to my hidey hole space in the back of my booth.

Never entering the house.

I am hauling out far more than I am bringing in.

First up this green 45 RPM record box with records.

Haven't checked out the selection of tunes yet.

A clutch of test tubes.

Yes, project involved, but I promise it is a quick one!

Low on architectural items - found these muntins (window dividers)

A gray metal data file box with a leather handle - quite spy-like.

A brown leather suitcase.

A wood office letter box.

A small bucket.

An ironstone plate.

This poor lady is losing her veneer - will repair and paint her.

A stack of old new stock of shutters.

Wooden shutters are getting harder and harder to find at reasonable prices.

These have never been used.

I did clean some of the dirt off.

Left some for eye-appeal.

Only five volumes of the New Masters Pictorial Encyclopedia, but who could resist those covers!

Great line drawings inside.

A basket filled with -

A wire soap dish.

A boy and his dog cookie cutters.

An Audubon Field Guide For Birds.

A book for veterans.

Worlds to Explore - a Girl Scout Manual.

Checking out, the manager asked if I saw the box of crochet stuff.

Thinking she meant afghans, I was not really thrilled but looked anyway.

Oh, my word!

It was a box of vintage baby clothes intricately crocheted and never used.

No stains or foxing (brown spots).

This set a bonnet, coat, and booties - the edges have tatted silk lace.

 So sweet!

This set a coat and booties.

 A small dress.

With tiny white buttons on the other side.

I displayed it with the buttons on the front.

Most likely meant for the back - you wouldn't want tiny buttons where a baby might pick one for a snack.

Two white, pink and blue bonnets.

The last set was crocheted from pink silky thread.

There was a dress.

With tiny pink buttons.

And the matching coat and bonnet.

It took awhile to go through the box - everything was jumbled together.

I hope I was able to match all of the sets.

I did leave others behind.

I promise.

See y'all!

A Precious Gift

If you read my post yesterday, you know I am participating in the Thrift It, Gift It, Facelift It challenge.

My box of goodies was sent by Kim of  Snug Harbor Bay.

Tucked deep inside was this tiny box stamped with a nest image.

And nestled in this box was a silver bracelet made by Kim.

Stamped Distressed Donna Down Home.

I fell in love with it immediately.

It fits perfectly!

The bracelet has been on my wrist for the past several days.

Kim, this is such a precious gift.

I will treasure it.

See Kim's selection of cuff bracelets in her Snug Harbor Bay Etsy Shop.

Thrift It Goodies

thrifting, makeovers, blog fun
Tania From Little Vintage Cottage
(HERE) had this idea to ask a few blogging buddies to participate in this fun adventure.

We were to go forth and thrift shop, gift the goodies to a blogger Tania selected, and then do a makeover or two on the items.

Vicky - Life on Willie Mae Lane - http://lifeonwilliemaelane.blogspot.com/
Kim - Snug Harbor Bay - http://snugharborbay.blogspot.com/
Kimberley - Seaside Ave. - http://www.seasideave.com/
Donna - Distressed Donna Down Home - http://distresseddonnadownhome.blogspot.com/
Cecilia - The B Farm - http://www.thebfarm.blogspot.com/
Tania - Little Vintage Cottage - http://littlevintagecottage.blogspot.com/

We decided to let it be a secret who had our name until the box of goodies arrived.

This week a large box was sitting on my doorstep waiting to be opened.

It was from Kim of Snug Harbor Bay.

Man-o-Man!  Can she stuff a box!?!

I had to take three photos to show all the goodies.

Now, Kim, you do know that shiny bright sifter will not stay that way.

Love the grater and the keys.

The tiny baking pans and porcelain knobs have my head filled with ideas.

Love the graphics on these soda bottles.

MacFuddy - hmmmm - I think he lives here!

A sweet note from Kim.

A rolling pin.

Two silver ladles.

Four dolly pins.

An one very interesting pie tin.

We have a couple of weeks to repurpose these items. I have several ideas brewing about combining them.

Come back when we reveal the facelifted items!

See y'all!

Quickies

makeovers, Americana Decor paint, Valspar paint, Furniture pieces
I have decided to make "Quickies"
a weekly post as I finish projects lingering about the house.

These four projects took about two hours to complete.

Of course the sanding and the cleaning had been completed.

The antique spinet desk is still yielding pieces to work on.

These two corbels - one with the base still attached - needed painting.

Valspar in Bermuda Sand.

Light distressing.

The next three pieces were hauled from Horror Monster's entry closet.

Read What Horror Monster Coughed Up!

Love the carvings on this piece.

A pair of old cupboard doors with the hinges and catch still in fair condition.

A back piece to a dresser, maybe?

I used Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Lace to paint the door frames.

Added hardware cloth (the wire).

Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Serene.

Lace.

A creamy white.

I dry-brushed the doors and the two furniture pieces so no extra distressing was needed.

Found a large bag of small grapevine wreaths I had made years ago.

Tied on a torn cotton ribbon in turquoise.

Wired a wreath to each door panel.

Everything received a coat or two of satin varnish.

All are now at Riverfront Antique Mall in Booth W-10.

I hope to complete more quickies for next Sunday.

See y'all!
