Friday Finds

cabinet photographs, Vintage Southern Picks blog
My Friday Finds post is more about finding Florence than treasures found.

Though Florence is a true treasure.

She started commenting on my posts quite awhile back.

I tracked her down on Google, but had no idea of her blog, Etsy shop, FB page, and Pinterest boards.

I found out when she asked to use a link to my spooky ancestor milk bottles (READ HERE) on an Etsy listing featuring old cabinet cards.

Of course once I saw the cabinet cards I had to purchase them.

Chucks and I spent about 45 minutes the day the photos arrived creating back stories for each person.

We decided the couple above had these photos taken for their engagement. We think they found each other in prison - he a petty thief and she the prison cook.

And they lived happily ever after.

I especially love family portraits with children.

The three sisters grew up to be a local sensation as a singing trio.

And they lived happily ever after.

Formal portraits were taken to com- memorate special milestones in life.

The two women graduated from a teaching college, taught for three years, and quit to marry and raise their children.

And they lived happily ever after.

Love the unusual diamond shape of the young man's photo.

After being scanned, I will use a copy of him  to make merchandise tags.

More formal portraits of young men.

Chucks and I saw a bright future for the guy standing by the chair.

He became president of a major furniture company, married well, and had five children.

And lived happily ever after.

Notice all of the stories we created have a happy ending.

All because Chucks insists on it.

Snarky me thinks of the dark side sometimes.

I will be busy scanning these into the computer for future use.

Now back to the amazing Florence.

Her blog Vintage Southern Picks is a delightful mix of vintage finds, transformations, and life stories. I have been busy reading back through her posts.

You can find Vintage Southern Picks on Facebook HERE.

Her Pinterest boards can be found HERE.

Etsy shop - VintageSouthernPicks - Where Vintage Meets Modern is HERE.

Most of you probably already know her, but be sure to go over and visit when you have a chance.

Thanks, Florence for becoming a blog friend.

See y'all!

Quickies

quick project, making photo tags, Magnolia Ridge Antique and Art GatheringThis is a great project when you are binge watching TV shows.

I sorted through the snapshots I bought in January to pick ones I especially liked.

Scanned them into my computer.

Printed them out nine to a page.

Even if the photos are different sizes, this step will make them all the same size.

Selected odd trims and laces from my stash to attach to the bottoms after cutting each photo out with craft scissors.

Since the photos have a sepia hue, I wanted to cover the punched holes with a brown kraft paper reinforcement.

However I was out of those.

So I took several sheets of the white ones outside and spritzed them with walnut ink.

Left them in the sun to dry.

Yes, they are still sticky after dying.

I do like the look, but I have ordered more brown kraft paper ones for next time.
Sometimes I can be lazy.

Used seam binding, ribbon, rick rack, and twine to make ties for each tag.

Oh, I forgot to tell you this project is about making tags.

Yes, little photo tags to attach to kraft paper shopping bags.

I have completed several dozen bags in two sizes.

WHY?

I have been invited to participate in the annual Magnolia Ridge Antiques & Art Gathering on May 21 in Ridge Spring, South Carolina.

Yes, my junk will be traveling!

If you are within 150 miles, it is worth the trip.

For a look at last year's Gathering go HERE!

See y'all!

My Etsy shop is on vacation so I can clean up a bit and clear out items lingering too long.

Friday Finds

vintage finds, cobalt glass, blog friends
I promised and here it is - the trove of treasure I bought from Linda at A La Carte.

The thrill of the hunt is sometimes surpassed by the thrill of someone shopping for you.

Linda is purging her collections and asked if I would be interested in them.

For several weeks she would send pics for me to choose.

Of course if you read her blog, you know it would not be Linda without a piece of pink McCoy pottery.

A pair of black glass creamers.

The blue sugar and creamer with the black rims are darling.

Then there are the cobalt blue cousins.

Dinner service for six with a sugar and a creamer to match.

Three creamers of various sizes.

A small bud vase.

A pair of S&P's.

Two serving plates and a small bowl.

Amber glass candy dish with the lid intact.

Two green sherbets.

A large family of kitchen tools.

My favorite is the aqua pot strainer.

Or it might be the tiny measuring scoop in the middle.

A whole clan of creamers.

Chicken S&P's.

Leaf dishes - probably bridge ash trays.

Bulova clock radio twins - fraternal, not identical.

Probably born mid-1960's.

Yes, they work.

I was able to pick up three AM stations clearly.

Both do have snooze buttons.

There was another box of assorted trays and other items.

When bloggers meet, you know there will be presents.

Linda's gift to me was so special it brought tears to my eyes.

She gave me several photographs of her paternal grandmother. (She had duplicates.)

So from baby ...

To young girl ....

To beauty queen of Ottumwa, Iowa ...

To a young woman with beautifully marcelled hair,

I present Miss Emmagene Sinclair.

Thank you so much, Linda.  I will treasure these.

See y'all!

Photo Opportunity

vintage photos, vintage postcards, papal audience - 1930
No Quickies post this Sunday.  The weather was nice enough to complete large projects and do some cleaning.

Remember back in January I shopped from home for photographs and postcards?

Here are more of the collection.

There were many babies in this group - good sellers.

Another group in great shape.

This is a family - Lillian, Helen and William.

One photo each year.

I bought another group of photos from the same dealer and got more of the same family.

I now wish I knew Lillian, Helen and William's last name so I could look them up.

The dealer stuck in an extra with the group - a tin type.

Yes, the photo is really on tin.

I will probably sell it.

If it was a child or baby, I would keep it.

At an estate sale I chanced upon this tattered and torn album.

Filled with numerous postcards - black and white - photos of Rome.

There was only one snapshot of three of the four who were traveling together.

How did I know there were four?

Why were they in Rome?

What exciting event did they attend?

This document was on the last page.  The corner torn was the entrance ticket.

A loose translation:

 The Papal Antechamber
His Holiness receives in audience
The day ____ at 12.30
Camillo Caccia Dominioni
Vatican Master of Chamber of His Holiness

It is dated December 31, 1930.

There are instructions for the proper dress for the audience.

The ticket is for four.

I am such a history geek that I got a huge thrill over finding this even though there are probably thousands of them floating around.

And I can't let you go without confessing the sin of gluttony.

I bought another 200 postcards!

Update on Miss Peepers:  She checked out fine at the vet.  Needs to gain a few pounds and stay inside for a few more days until her strength is back.

See y'all!
