Just A Bit Rusty

tin roof tiles. rusty tiles
I am a bit rusty on writing a blog post.

I have been on spring break with my niece Olivia.

Yes, I had a few posts scheduled ahead of time.

On the theme of rust, here are some rusty roofing tiles I found while cleaning the shed to get it ready to be repaired.

One summer I managed to save four truckloads of roofing tiles from three houses being restored or demolished.

The majority of the tiles have long since been sold.

I know one customer used them to cover her laundry room walls.

Another used them to make a border around the top of her dining room.

Some were used in small projects.

Some were simply hung on the walls.

All were loved.

All were saved from the landfill.

One house had the tiles painted in silvery-gray.

The tiles are wonderfully aged with rusty patina.

One house had tiles painted in red.

The tiles were much larger than the others.

There are singles, doubles, triples, and quads in this bunch.

Once I made several birdhouses and roofed them with the green tiles.

Most of the tiles are now at Riverfront Antique Mall.

I admit to keeping a couple of them for old times sake.

A memory of carting home truckload after truckload of tin roofing tiles.

A memory of climbing into a dumpster to remove the tiles discarded.

A memory of box after box of tiles stacked in the shed.

Now just these few left.

I think I have shaken off my rustiness and will be around to read and catch up with all you have accomplished while I was busy celebrating with my niece her birthday, high school graduation, and last spring break before college.

See y'all!

  3. I always thought tiles like that would make a really cool and dramatic head board. Just install them on the wall and take it all the way to the ceiling. Fantastic!
