Vintage Linens and Lace

I was being such a well-behaved, non-hoarding junker last Friday when out of the blue Olive from Olive Out called to inform me I had missed a wonderful estate sale.  One of those estate sales where time stopped in the 1960's.  The kind where the people running it just want to clear out the house.  The kind where you even want to dig up plants from the yard.  Oh, wait a moment, that was Olive!  See her blooms here.

I had to go near the place late in the afternoon and took a chance to see if they were still selling.

They were.

See that blue and yellow on white tablecloth?  On top are the six matching napkins!  Avocado and gold linen dish towels in assorted stripes and plaids made my groovy day. See that cute little head peeking out?

It would be this adorable embroidered satin lamb.

Too, too sweet!

Here he is again with a stack of embroidered pillowcases and doilies and hankies and . . .

A bright blue calico Colonial dress.  And why would I ever want a bright blue Colonial dress?

Didn't you hear Suzan at Simply Vintageous is holding a themed wedding for her daughter.  I am so sure I will be invited, I chose Colonial times.  I think Suzan should chose the 1960's glamorous look.  Take a look and help her chose.

If my invite gets lost in the mail, I will just don the gown and play Mary had a little lamb.

Okay, I know I recently purchased eight pounds of vintage lace, but this is only about five or six pounds.

I took the bin to the check-out table for them to hold while I finished looking.  One of the ladies asked if I wanted some more. I said yes.

Every time I went back to the table she had crammed more into the crate.

It was a great deal.

The last item has really no relation to the other things I bought, but I loved the red and gold of the cake tin with the double happiness symbol on it.  (Though I may have that symbol upside down!)

There were a few other items bought, but lucky for my wallet they were closing up at 5 and I still had to drop merchandise off at the antique mall.  The next day was Saturday and that, my friends, is a whole 'nother story.

You have seen the opium bed here, but I will be honest and show all the other fabulous finds.

See y'all!

  2. Hmm, between you and Olive finding all these wonderful things, you might have to get a bigger truck. What a haul! I think you've found a true shopping buddy with Olive.

  3. I missed the pretty dress but that house was packed with so many vintage goodies. Now I need to get up and iron all the linens I bought. Maybe later. Still want the plants...clearly I am evil.

  4. Donna ~ Thanks for stopping by my blog :)
In reading your post, I have come to the conclusion that 14 pounds of vintage lace is simply not enough....not.enough. That little lamb is adorable, too!

  10. The little lamb caught my eye right off. You crack me up. When Chucks finds you sitting on the mound of of "stuff" now collecting inside the front door wearing that gown singing Mary Had A Little Lamb, I'm not sure, but I think he may start making some phone calls. You could soon be wearing a lovely white jacket with the arms sewn shut.

That would make a very interesting period costume for the wedding too!

  12. Wow!!! The fabulous finds just keep coming. That lamb is so adorable!! My Gosh Donna you found a real treasure trove. I have a weakness for vintage linens and have a few, but I never use them. I just love to look at them and imagine when they were used.

  14. Did you score or what??! A lesson to be learned here. Just because a sale has been going on for awhile does not mean that there aren't more goodies to be had. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, if I was in that sale with you and saw those great linens and laces being snapped up, would I have been coveting your treasures. Love them!

  17. I love what you found. I enjoy going to sales in the summer and I have collected old lace. Always meant to make something from it but never have. So far its in an old case I found. I also like to collect pillow cases with hand made lace. Something about all that stuff thats so much better than anything we get now.

  18. Well, what a score! Walking into a sale where time stopped in the 60's has happened to me only a couple of times, be still my pounding heart, so much fun and so much time spent at these places, the people in charge probably thought I wanted to move in or something, geezzz.
    Thanks for sharing your loot.
