A Night At The Fair

South Carolina State Fair
Love a good fair in the fall.

Chucks and I took off for Columbia to the South Carolina State Fair Monday night.

The first sight you see is the Ferris Wheel and the Rocket.

Everyone meets at the Rocket.

Lost adults and kids are asked to go to the Rocket.

"Meet me at the Rocket" is a phrase most of us have known for decades.

The announcement that always gets a laugh is "Jane meet your husband at the Rocket".

Yes, you can find a wife or a husband at the Rocket!

Who needs computer dating services?

There is a Grandstand show broadcast throughout the fairgrounds.

Many smaller acts perform along the midway.

This is Marc Dobson and his son Cavin.

We really enjoyed their performance.

You can see him HERE.

It was eighty degrees so we first visited the exhibition halls where there was air conditioning.

The excitement builds once the sun sets and the neon glows.

The gondola crosses the fair from one end to the other.

The view from the gondola is quite spectacular.

Williams-Brice Stadium where the University of South Carolina Gamecocks play in the background.  On Saturday there will be over 150,000 people in this area as a noon football game collides with Saturday at the fair.

The midways extend out in four directions.

Not too crowded on a Monday night.

Besides the gondola, we have to ride the Ferris Wheel.

It is my favorite ride.

Chucks wondering if he will ever set foot on terra firma again.

 Numerous rides.

Numerous food stands.

I promise we only had lemonade.

Good-bye until next October!

Wish I had bought some vinegar fries!

See y'all!

  1. I have gone to the state and county fair every year for as long as I can remember. Our county fair is in July and state fair in August. I always get a tenderloin at the county fair and fried candy at the state fair. :)

  2. Love a fair, and you made me feel like I was there too! At the rocket. LeeAnna

  3. I need a fair in my life. Without getting a heat stroke. Looks like you and Chucks had a great time. Magoo is not a fan of open air heights. Ferris wheels make him nervous. I bribe him with a turkey leg if I have to.

  4. Well, that looks like fun! Haven't been to a fair in ages...not since I was a kid in fact. Ah, the ferris wheel...that always scared me to death! I can not handle heights. Vinegar fries sound great!

  5. I would just love a funnel cake or elephant ear. I can go without the whole fair thing, though. No gondola or ferris wheel for me! At the Ohio State Fair, I enjoyed the animals. Cows, goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens, pigs. I was a city girl, and that's about the only time I got to see farm animals.

  6. I've always wanted to go to the state fair! Vinegar fries!! Yum!

  7. I haven't gone to a state fair in years, so much fun!!

  8. Looks like fun! I've never been to a state fair, but we do have the Exhibition in Toronto. It was an annual must at the end of August when we were kids into young adulthood. I haven't been since I moved out of the city in 1988. Didn't realize it was so long until this very moment. I have very fond memories. Might have to go next year.

  9. What a beautiful night. I know you and Chucks had fun. We have not gone to a fair in years. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Looks like fun. I haven't been to our fair for years but you've made me want to go again!

  11. Used to love going to county fair in Del Mar, CA, was hot tho as it's in early July. We've only gone to Mesa Cty. Fair twice when we first moved to Grand Junction, CO. It's in later July but also so darned hot, gotten so can't handle lot of heat unless am in water in my old age.
Your fair looks huge like San Diego county's,, so much to see, is more fun at night and when it's cooler. Wouldn't get me on that gondola or ferris wheel, no way jose. Glad you had good time.

  12. What a fun date for you and Chucks! I know it is a fun place to go but the noise is over the top. Last time I went to the NYS Fair I got a migraine! I am not a fun date. My husband and son love that stuff.

  13. It's been a long time since I've been to the fair. Your's looks huge and so much fun :)
