I started with an old washstand - white with stenciled country roses.

Well-made and quite sturdy.

Nothing to do but decide how to redo this beauty in the rough.

Yes, you do spy a blooming hydrangea behind it.

I am ashamed to say this was taken back in August.

<gasp>

Sanded her down and stored her in the living room awaiting inspiration.

Around about September, I started painting her Vintage - that Americana Chalky Paint color.

Finished the top and drawer.

Stored her in the living room.

Awaiting inspiration.

Around about the middle of December I had to move her from the living room to put up the Christmas tree.

Stored her in the dining room.

Awaiting inspiration.

Around about last week, the weather turned quite spring-like.

Inspiration struck.

I would finish painting her.

Alas, it was Sunday.  Hobby Lobby was not open, and I had no Vintage paint.

However I did have Krylon spray chalky paint in ivory.

So I sprayed her and sanded her smooth.

I had ordered some new stencils from Maison de Stencils.

One was a French Love song.

How perfect for Valentine's Day!

Notice how crisp the stencil is cut.

The stencil is created from thick sheets.

I love them!

I used French blue FolkArt craft paint.

Then sanded the heck out of it.

Looks great with the Vintage color inside of the drawer.

A pretty piece suitable for the bathroom or bedroom or wherever.

She came with the tempered glass top.

The glass is slightly blue.

She has been delivered to Booth C-23.

There're No Pictures Like Snow Pictures

It's the first month of the year.

Snow was promised and did not come near here.

So I spent the time dragging out all my snow paintings to remind me what snow is.

My all-time favorite.

Signed by Ralph Booth - primitive - acrylic on board.

I found it covered in hay in an old barn years ago.

This one is not a painting, but a calendar page found in a shed.

I love the distressed-ness of it.

A colorful watercolor.

I know you are getting the idea here.

Yes, there is a barn behind the house.

Acrylic on board.

More like a shed behind the house than a barn.

I especially love the frame.






 

The red barn is front and center on this acrylic on canvas.

Except for the first one, they are NOT signed.

I always place the favorite right across from the sofa so I can see it every night.

A little concrete polar bear smiles at the world.

He is a happy fellow.





I have been away with the creeping crud that seems to be infecting everyone I know.

Favorite Vintage Finds Of 2016

It is hard to choose an absolute favorite of my vintage finds.

Like picking the best of your children, I guess.

This seemed to be my year for finding both snapshots and cabinet card photographs.

I have never met a photograph - sepia and stained - I did not love.

The blue star crock - lovely size - someone had drilled holes in it for plants.

I sold it - egad!

There is something about the soft gleam of old aluminum kitchenware that captures my heart.

And captures my heart.

And captures my heart.

In 2016, that soft gleam is responsible for over two hundred pieces.

Most of it sold.

I loved all four pieces of this vignette and kept the pieces around for several months.

Then off to be sold.

I can be cruel.

Then if you are cruel, karma comes around to get you.

I loved this primitive blue chest on casters.

And yet I sold him.

Regretted it time I saw him rolling gently away from me.

I had been convinced the price was too high.

Karma intervened and someone snatched him up.

If you are a regular reader, you know I have quite a thing for body parts especially heads.


I scored many doll parts this past year including these heads. 

I kept the Kewpie and sold the rest.

A green primitive cabinet on casters (yes, I do have a thing for casters!)
was a steal of a deal.

It has been languishing in the booth.

If it is still there at the end of January, it will come home to live with me.

And speaking of casters, I bought about seventy of them this year.

I have sorted through to keep some and sell the rest.

Look for them soon in Booth W-10.

In my quest to possess every old book around, I bought quite a few bins.

A few kept for personal use and the rest to sell.

I have been saving back one large bin from 2015.

I promise to start 2017 by tagging those books for sale.

But maybe keep a few.

So what will I be looking for in 2017?

Take a close look at the photo for a clue.

Anything vintage, old, distressed, primitive, numbered, lettered, stained, painted ...

Well, you get the picture.

Wait!  I may want that picture!
