It's Not That Easy Being Green

Distressing a green cabinet, estate sale find, vintage cabinet
It's not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red or yellow or gold -
Or something much more colorful than that.

Unless of course you are like this little green cabinet I fell in love with at the estate sale last Friday.

However the price was a bit steep, and Saturday was half-price day.

It's not that easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're not
Standing out like flashy sparkles in the water -
Or stars in the sky.

Unless of course Distressed Donna finds you hiding in the back of a shed covered in dirt - not sparkly at all.

But green's the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like a mountain,
Or important like a river, or tall like a tree.

So important I got to the sale forty minutes ahead of time, parked around the corner by the back driveway, and let the others line up by the front door while I watched from the warmth of my truck for the sale to begin.

When green is all there is to be,
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder?
Why wonder/  I am green and it'll do fine it's beautiful.
And I think it's what I want to be!

You can see my concrete Kermit behind the little cabinet nodding in agreement.

However being obsessed as I am with being distressed, I had to sand the cabinet which is really not that little.

Look at all the storage.

I wish I had room for it.

There was a lovely blue and a creamy white under the Spring green.

Had there been time before the rain came, I would have darkened with a bit of stain and wax.

The cabinet cleaned up nicely.

See Kermit checking out the backside?

He thought he had a new home.

It's not that easy being green, but it is easy to be DISTRESSED  green!

Now available at Booth W-10, Riverfront Antique Mall.

The Rusty, Crusty Stuff

Vintage scale, vintage finds, horseshoes
I went last week on a trip to a favorite junk store with Olive from Olive Out who is taking a break from blogging at the moment.

Got several rusty, crusty, dusty items.

Unfortunately due to the extremely cold weather, they are currently residing in the coffin carrier awaiting a thorough cleaning.

It was love at first sight for this very rusty, very crusty old scale which to my amazement is still rather precise.

Look at that cute chick waterer.

This is a copper light cover or the world's largest flower frog.

Look how much bigger it is than the scale.

An orange drill box.

A vintage photo of two ladies gossiping.

A long, blue metal tool box filled with horseshoes.

A wooden clamp.

OOPS!  I just noticed my horseshoes are upside down - all my luck has run out!

One porch paling.

Two funnels (one is hiding).

Three iron shoe lasts.

A silver metal tool caddy.

And a whole stack of dusty, dirty bank bags.

I have a stack of laundry to do.

I am putting it off as long as possible.

I think I will do the bank bags first.

It's a small load.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

thrift shopping, vintage finds
Nothing thrills a teacher's heart as old supplies like this Boston sharpener.

It was a good day in the neighborhood when the maintenance guy brought a brand-new blade for it.

Teachers are easily pleased.

I was on the hunt for a selection of different sizes of these old metal frames.

I have now forgotten what I was going to do with them and evidently forgot to pin the idea.

Vintage ice cream churn in a lovely turquoise.

Enough said.

I have several customers who love any kind of hardware displays.

I actually missed this on Chucks and my Un-Valentine's Day thrift shop trip.

Chucks waited until we had loaded the truck and asked why I did not buy the hose clamp display.

Well, duh, husband of 34 years, obviously I did not see it.

He trudged back and bought it.

I probably missed the hose clamp display because I was so excited to find this rack which fits perfectly above my desk in my office space at the booth.

Three wire mesh and metal boxes and a frame with a wide metal edge.

I will probably cut these up into metal scrap for projects.

BTW,  that is a real studio photo of someone's real baby left in the frame.

Crazy!

A small tin for a Christmas gift.

A fish stringer.  Remember all the bobbers I bought a month ago?  Maybe a fishy garland.

I would not want to appear before Superior Court Judge Akers who gave away rulers with his name on them.

I am thinking bruised knuckles.

Just for you, Danni Baird.  (Silo Hill Farm)

A star colander filled with bison vertebrae.

I am amassing a collection of Madonna's and found two this week.

Also on the hunt for busts.

This guy looks familiar.

Anyone have a guess?

Maybe Lafayette?

A small display box with a piece of genuine coral.

This is such a sweet print and I love the chippy white basket which has handles.

Okay, all the odds and ends in this post, and tomorrow I will feature just the rusty, crusty, dusty stuff I found.

It is pee-turkey cold here, and I should not fuss since some of you are buried in snow and ice.

But I am complaining.

Sorry.

See y'all!

The Back Room

Riverfront Antique Mall, Booth W-10
I promise I have not been hiding.

Well, not completely true.

I have been in the back room of my booth retagging and straightening to get it ready for business.

Here's what it looked like last Saturday.

It does not look like it, but this is an organized mess.

Things on the shelves had been marked with "W-10".

Things on the floor had not been.

I changed close to a thousand tickets.

"W-10" was a recurring nightmare.

Next was order.

Not neat by any means, but some kind of order.

Some of the crates from my crate Christmas tree were tied in a different configuration for shelving.

See my crate Christmas tree here.

Unlike some dealers, I do not bring home or put on sale my seasonal items.  Christmas and Halloween found places in the back room.

The turquoise wall is the back to the shelving unit facing my little office/workroom.

It is chaos back there!

Most of the books are in this area.

Don't worry - it's the photo, not your eyesight!

I sat for days in that chair changing the tags.

I have become quite taken with her and may bring her back home.

For now she is available for you to rock and read.

I used clothes pins to pin hankies and small towels to a wire dress form.

I do tend to color-coordinate my books without realizing it.

Yes, more books and buttons.

The lattice was already there so I left it.

More vegetable crates for the books.

For three bucks a pop you can't beat them for storage.

One last look.

I know some of you are thinking is this really my idea of organized?

Why, yes. Yes, it is.

So what do I call this area?

I refer to it as The Back Room.

Should I call it something cute?

Do you have an idea?

The office area is on the list for a great deal of work.  I want to be able to do some projects back there.

Come visit - Booth W-10 at Riverfront Antique Mall in North Augusta, South Carolina.

See y'all!
