Moonlight and Picnics

Has your honey ever taken you on a moonlight picnic?  Well, mine hasn't.  Poor Chucks does not have a romantic bone in his whole body.  If I proposed the idea, he would ask me if I knew it was dark out.

Nevertheless, I created just the right picnic basket for a moonlight picnic on a chilly Autumn night.

First start with a nondescript, generic, oh-so-boring picnic basket.  I like these woven in Mexico ones.

Wash it off.

Wait a minute this thing is screaming for a name.  I will keep thinking.

Spray painted two coats with Rust-Oleum Ivory Silk.

Loving this color instead of my usual white.

Went over to The Graphics Fairy to print out the moon face images nine to a page.
The moon face was available on a Bon Annee postcard also.  That is Happy New Year in French.

I took the image over to Pic Monkey to change his beard so it looked like it was made of bats, colored it orange with a purple border, and typed Happy Halloween in orange.  I tied orange French seam binding ribbons on each tag.  I only used one for the basket.

If you are lucky I will show you what I do to the rest!

Cut out three of the moon faces and Mod Podged them down the center of the basket's top.  Gave them two coats over the top for protection.

Well, it is official.  The basket is a she.  Just need a name.  Still thinking. . .

I had made some torn cotton ribbons from orange and white polka dotted calico.  I tied the ribbon on and one of the tags.

And Little Luna, the moonlight picnic basket was born!

Little Luna sits patiently waiting to be filled with goodies.  Tonight it is actually supposed to be in the fifties.  Certainly cool enough for a little moonlight picnic.

Chucks says I should have named her Little Lunatic!

I guess that means inside eating for the two of us tonight.
Speaking of moonlight picnics.  You know that Scout ate most of the ginger lily roots from my beds in the backyard in the spring.  Somehow some still were able to return and now are blooming.  I tried and tried to catch the moonlight picnics of the migrating hummingbirds, but my camera skills and camera are just not that good.

So using your imagination, see the hummingbirds - five, six, or more at a time - zip in to feed on the ginger lilies right after dark each night.  Sometimes they all play pretty, but being hummers means that sometimes they fight - right there in the moonlight!

See y'all!

  1. Such a fun look for the basket and the ginger lily looks so pretty! How cool it must be to see the hummers zipping in for a quick taste in the moonlight. I'm also returning the favor by becoming your newest follower. :)

  2. I hate to admit it, but I'd love to see a hummingbird fight. Sounds like interesting viewing. You come up with such creative ideas. Picnics can be overrated. Pretend tonight is one of those times and I hope you enjoy the great indoors with Chucks.

  3. Little Luna is precious! And...don't feel alone; the Headmaster would NEVER think to do such a thing...though I do have a neat picnic basket from summer thrifting. Oh....ginger!!!! I can just smell it now!
