Vintage Market Days - Ladson, South Carolina

vintage market days, junkin trip, meeting bloggers
On Friday I drove down to Ladson, South Carolina, for the first Vintage Market Days in this area.

The dealers filled both a small and a large exhibition hall surrounded by outside dealers, food trucks, and live music.

Beautiful weather - sunny, but very windy.

The first booth as you walked in was filled with goodies.

I am sorry I cannot tell you her name.

She had left her cards at home.

This plush velvet sofa sold quickly.

One of my favorite booths was The Dove Cote Brocante.

You can find her on Instagram.

Jewelry, furniture, and delightful images galore.

See the large rabbits?

Mohair animals of all sorts.

While in this booth I heard my name being called and spied a friendly face.

Sissie of Sissie's Shabby Cottage - it was so nice to finally meet in person.

Sissie knew I could be found where the doll heads hung out!

Her sister was kind enough to take a photo.

Phyllis, my sister-in-law,  drove down from Atlanta.

We shopped for several more hours.

I met  Beth of Olde Tyme Marketplace from Marshville, North Carolina.  (Website HERE)

This is where I learned a lesson about these big shows.

If you see something you want, grab it!

A large space filled with furniture and architectural salvage.

The booth stayed packed.

A great idea for old drink crates who have lost their luster.

This was my favorite booth.

Pancake Hill - Ingrid can be found on Instagram under Pancake Hill.

I did buy several items from here.

I really desired and lusted after the green table.

Kept circling around until -GASP! - it had sold.

I also loved the cubby cabinet, but not sure if it would fit.

I did enjoy the show.

There will be one in North Augusta right up the road from Riverfront Antique Mall in May.

I have my tickets already!

See y'all!

Quickies - Kitchen Choices

kitchen renovation choices, Mannington flooring, pewter gray
I have a vision in my mind about the kitchen renovation so it is rather easy to make quick decisions about choices so far.

Flooring was chosen in ten minutes.

It had to be vinyl because of the odd shape of the kitchen and the three slight changes in the level of the floor.

I knew I wanted gray.

I knew I wanted a pattern.

I knew I wanted something that did not show dirt.

We had a Mannington floor installed back in 1992, and it held up except for a couple of issues.

I narrowed down the paint color to four until I had a sample of the cabinets.

Easy choices - Victorian Pewter paint and antique white cabinets with a pewter glaze.

I chose a simple cottage style - resembles a plain Shaker style - for the cabinets. (Not the sample shown.)

As we work to clear out twenty-seven years of collected junk, the cabinets are being made.

Demo Day will begin when the cabinets arrive in the warehouse.

See y'all!

Friday Finds

estate sale, junk shopping, baskets, old stamps, vintage books
Olive of Olive Out met me in Ridge Spring for lunch at Juniper and a casual bit of shopping last Friday.

A few things purchased by me.

Olive resisted all temptation and did not buy anything.

A few gifts from Olive who does not have a booth at the current time and is downsizing to my house.

I don't mind.

A rusty sifter, two pairs of baby shoes in their original boxes, and a box of red plastic sign letters.

At Ridge Antiques I found the cute two handle basket with its original cloth tag (Made In Poland) and a wicker lidded basket with a green insert.

Also at Ridge Antiques a whole basket of industrial stamps.

A great garden gate.

And then this beauty was sitting on the sidewalk outside Stuff (my favorite junk shop).

A primitive red and chrome station bench.

Only needed a bit of wax.

I bought this large ironstone pitcher from Olive.

Going in the new kitchen.

On the way home I stopped by Habitat's 50% off sale.

A cute collection of figurines.

Four oversized red Asian toile pillows.

At an estate sale I found a huge collection of books.

Over fifty of them.

Many hymnals and poetry books.

A collection of vintage children's books.

I could not resist the tiny pair of sandals.

I know the guy who wore them way back in the fifties.

A lovely batik tablecloth and an aluminum pitcher.

Another thrift store.

A tower of baskets.

A gold framed Madonna.

It's a definite keeper.

Right this moment I am in Ladson - just up the road from Charleston, SC - at the Vintage Market Fair.

We have not had these in the area before.

This year there are four within driving distance.

Including a sale one mile from the Riverfront Antique Mall.

Hope to find lots of goodies.

See y'all!

Distressed Dresser DeRATified

vintage dresser, dresser makeover, distressed painting
Walked into a thrift store.

There was a white, very distressed dresser needing rescue.

The very steep price stopped me in my tracks.

Wait!  It's 50% off day.

Wait! Still too expensive.

Dickered until the price was reasonable.

Quickly before he changed his mind, I whisked her out to the truck and loaded her up.

She sat forlornly in the driveway.

Her drawers stuck.

Her handles bent and torn.

But that's not the worst of it.

RATS!

Yes, rats!

Her drawers were filled with rat poison pellets.

Her drawers were gnawed, gnawed, and gnawed.

Looks normal.

But, no, gnawed.

By rats.

She sprawled unseemly on her back.

Donning mask and gloves I removed all the poison pellets.

Disposed of them carefully.

Took a shower.

Someone had spilled paint in this drawer.

And let it dry there.

Still she had classic lines and was surprisingly sturdy.

Turned the hose nozzle to the highest pressure.

Washed her with bleach water.

Let her dry completely.

60 grit sandpaper all over to erase the uglies.

Uncovered layers of paint.

The back told her history.

So I left it.

Oak veneer, two different greens, a pink, and a cream.

Made facing plates for the backs of the drawers.

Painted them blue.

Left the rat-gnawed pieces so more of her history is revealed.

I guarantee the cleanliness of the dresser.

But I do have a soft spot for a bit of gnawing on a piece of furniture.

Able to salvage two handles.

Dug through my handle stash to discover two - not matching, but complementary.

(Or complimentary?)

A distressed dresser totally deRATified.

She's sweet.

She's for sale in Booth W-10.
