She's Not Square, But She's Level-Headed!

I had this little table for several years.  She served her purpose as an all-around junk princess.  She was never square, but her top was level.

I decided she needed to be spruced up and sent to live with a new family.

This is how she looked before.  Actually this is partially after because when I bought her I sanded off the peeling finish and just kept her semi-dusted.

This quirky beauty had two straight back legs and two front legs that were angled.

I attempted to remove the kajillion nails in her to see if I could make the legs the same, but when I did that, her top was not level.

So I left her not so square, but level-headed

Next a good two coats of a new oops gray I recently found to add to my gray paint collection.

In real life and not camera life, the color is more greige than gray.

Yes, I am still playing around with that distressed harlequin stencil.  It is easy to work with when watching TV!

First FolkArt Celery Green.

I brought out the Sharpies in brown, red and bronze.  First I went around each shape with the bronze.  Then added a red dot to each center.  I highlighted the dark shadows side with the brown.

It doesn't matter which side is the dark shadows side as long as you remember to do exactly the same all over.

To make the design really pop, I used Distress Ink in Vintage Photo color smeared around each shape and around the edges of the table.

I let that dry about an hour before coating with satin craft varnish to seal the inks.

Well, she is definitely not square, but she is level-headed and pretty.

I kept my sewing machine drawers on the bottom shelf - they were a perfect fit, but I have other ideas for them.

This little table is off to the booth.

Have you noticed I have been remembering to "style" my projects?

I have a box of props to use.  I must change them out from time to time or you will catch on.

Whoops, the secret is out!

See y'all!

  1. Hi Donna,
Your table turned out so nice that I am surprised that you didn't decide to keep it.
I'm sure it will fly right out the door of your booth :)
    Keep smiling,

  3. Your table is so unique! I would imagine that you were listening to the tv while applying the harlequin shapes since you had to pay so much attention to detail. Lol! It really turned out lovely and am sure will find a new home soon!

  5. gray is my go to color at the moment.......just love it. My office/studio is also an extra bedroom and I painted the armoire and dresser in gray and white. I think you will never tire of it ....so classic. Love the harlequin motif. Another favorite of mine. Thank you for showing us how to do the shadowing. I always get it wrong. Have a fabulous weekend.
