Mission Oak Table

I have been looking for a small table to put by my computer desk for a place to set my phone and a drink and maybe a snack or two.  (Maybe I spend a little too much time on this computer!)

My desk is Mission Oak and I have a bookkeeper's desk in Mission Oak.  So I was thinking I need to find a Mission Oak small table.

But where in the world would I find something that matches the oak and the style of these two pieces?

Well, guess what?  I found one right behind my front door - it had been there for a couple of months.

Remember - no judging my lack of housekeeping skills.

Here's what it looked like after a thorough cleaning.

Sort of sad, but the oak and the details match the two desks.

I could not find a wiggle in it.

Just a ton of water stains and burn marks.

Here it is after one good sanding.  It still is not up to par with the desks.

I was afraid I would sand down to find the oak was just a veneer, but no it was oak through and through.

This is after the second sanding.

The small table was ready to be stained.

I chose -

MinWax Mission Oak!

It was a no-brainer.

After the stain had been wiped on and off a couple of times, the small table matched the desks.

Yay!

I let it sit a day or so and added a coat of clear poly to protect it.

The table enjoyed a few minutes in the sun on the patio before joining the crew in the craft/computer/guest room.

I am working hard.  I had hoped to do a reveal by the end of October, but I do get bogged down looking through things instead of sorting and throwing out.

Is anyone else like that?

The small Mission Oak table is sitting right here next to me holding my sweet iced tea (on a coaster!) and my early 1970's princess phone.  Of course he thinks that phone is sleek and modern.

Why do I still use a princess phone?    Some of you know it rests perfectly between your ear and your shoulder without slipping or sliding while you are listening to whoever calls and typing on your computer at the same time.  The caller never realizes you are deep in Blogland and not listening.

Just watch out for the curly cord.

Don't want to spill a drink on that table.

See y'all!

The table looks great! Glad you managed to rescue it, would have been such a shame for a solid oak table to end up in a landfill! =) x
