The Ladder and the Chair

 I AM CLEANING AND ORGANIZING!

It is just that I bought all this new stuff so I am running back and forth deciding what goes and what stays - what gets painted and what does not - what the craft room should look like and what it should not.

Decisions, decisions, decisions!

With my present plan there will be a lot of furniture moving from one room to another with some of it having to be painted.  I am definitely, maybe, leaning in this direction.

So, what did I do today?  I took some time to quietly stand in the driveway and paint a ladder.  Clean a chair. Take them to the shop and rearrange.

My booths are easier to deal with than my house!

When I luck up on a wonderfully distressed with years of dripping paint ladder, I know just what to do.  I mix one part paint to four parts water.  You heard that right - it is basically paint water.

This only works if there is no varnish or wax .

I gloop it on and let it run all over.  Into the cracks, into the crevices.

Uh, oh! Onto the driveway!  I forgot my freezer paper.

GREAT TIP:   Freezer paper is wonderful as a underlayment when working on projects.  It does not stick to stuff!  It will protect your driveway if you remember to use it.

It looks very pretty in my yard, but I will not keep it.

I have a plan for it at the booth.

This little beauty will be doing inside work - clean inside work!

You'll see.

Now on my list has been a pink chair.  You know from reading I was able to find two.     (Read A Slippery Shopping Slope)

The first just needed to be vacuumed.

This one however had been used by a lady who worked with clay.  It had clay all over it.

But that pale ballet slipper pink had won my heart.

I scrubbed and scrubbed.  Even though there was a lovely coat of cream and a coat of pale green underneath, I was not going to sand.

I wanted that pink!

Here she is - beautiful ballet slipper pink and almost all the clay has disappeared.

I have never liked pink in my life - Do not know why I am drawn to it now.

Am I entering my second childhood?

No, if so, I would climbing trees and playing football and riding my bike with no hands.

When asked at six about dance lessons, I replied, "That's for girls!"

The ladder arrived at my booth ready to work - as a bookshelf.

Of course, I forgot the bag of books I was planning to display on it.

Right after I took this picture someone moved everything to pick out the window she wanted.

That's okay.  She did buy several things and made a sweet comment about the turquoise ladder.

I think she was wondering who in their right mind would buy a turquoise ladder.

Who said you have to be in your right mind?  I am no longer sure I have a right mind.

Over to the next booth.  You can definitely see I have a split personality.  The first one is primitive, eclectic, and dark.

This one is light, white, green, pink, and various other shabby, cottage-y things.

A pastel Halloween scene lives here.  This is why I needed pink chairs.  The pink armchair, the pink prom dress, the bridal veil, the pink kitchen chair, the black and taupe dance costume.  All ready for some spooky fun!

And don't forget the heads!

A close up of the vignette.

I tried to place one of the heads on the meat platter, but it refused to stay.

Here are Charlene and Dianne  hanging out under the chair just talking about where they may want to live.  These are cosmetology student heads. (No, that did not come out right - the heads are for the students to work on.)  I think that it is hilarious that each head has a plaque from the manufacturer with a name on it.  I hope they get into some fun for Halloween.  I see some future costume ideas for them!

I am now back to work.  I have to corral a bunch of stamps, ink pads, and stencils tonight.  This October Overhaul is exhausting!

See y'all!

  3. You are a fast worker to get all that done and in place so fast, or maybe you don't. Looks great and I love the ladder and the idea of the watered down paint.

  4. You are one busy girl! Love that ladder and your paint technique for it...nothing like keeping it simple! Love that the heads have names and love that you kept the chair pink. (Although I was a tomboy too!)

  5. I think the ladder turned out just perfect, neat idea to hold books too. The pink chair was amazing. I figured you'd repainted it and couldn't figure out why you'd buy it for the pink only to repaint it. It looks great! I thoroughly enjoyed your sentiments about a second childhood and dance lessons. Smiling. That's great. Those mannequin heads are interesting and you made them quite funny.
Moving furniture. Something I do alllllll the time.
    Happy Pink Saturday!

  7. Love the ladder, but truth be told- those beauty school heads are perfectly creepy for halloween! You should hide them in your bushes and light them up!

  8. I found you at Funky Junk party. very funny, because I just painted an old step ladder turquoise for my antiques booth and it sold at a much higher price than I paid for it! Hope to find more of them soon!

  12. Your overhauling looks so much more fun than mine has been. I spent a whole day going through old papers I found while cleaning the closet in my room, then there were hours of shredding. Then yesterday there was the cleaning of the car (about 2 1/2 to 3 hours work) and the removal from my craft room of a bunch of wood I had found from a bunk bed as well as sorting through the wood I got free in the wire baskets. I hauled that to a friend's son to see if he wanted to make a bench out of the bed wood. It was a huge pile by my front door but my craft room doesn't seem to look a bit different. Hmph! I'm about to go and haul out all the cabinet doors I have in there next. Time to get serious! Your ladder is beautiful and will make a great bookshelf! Can you tell me what brand and color name the turquoise is? Bravo on the overhauling!

  13. Love the turquoise ladder and the pink chair! It was worth all your elbow grease. The head on the platter sounds funny. Have you tried something like Handi-Tack? It might not be strong enough, but I use it for some things. Now I want a turquoise ladder! Much cuter than the paint spattered metal one I have now...
