Friday Finds

This past week I had a list. 

Surprise, surprise!

I only bought the things on my list.

The junk gods smiled upon me.

A small bench.

Covered in Contact paper, but that can be remedied.

Some rusty tin.

Found and bought this cone.

Needs a handle.

Boards that I do not have to cut to make a few signs.

This beadboard reminds me of writing tablets.

There may be blackboard paint involved.






Two galvanized trays.

Cleaning and waxing.

Maybe a stencil.

Wanted something lacy.

Found this bridal veil.

This one with a head piece.

Found a wedding dress.

These are vintage - probably from the 1960's, but not of great quality. 

Perfect for decorating a mirror or window.

Brass record stand.

I had one similar.

Record player on top, Tiger Beat magazines on the shelf and albums stored on the bottom. 

This style stand makes a great plant stand. 

Something blue and primitive.

A rolling tool chest.

Scrubbing and waxing.

Hinges reset.

This particular junk shop loads your purchases for you.

I really did not want the contents, but I got them anyway. 

It was in the truck before I even had a chance to pay!

After going through the contents, I am so glad I did not toss them.

Lots of interesting old tools and parts.

My favorite is the pair of metal gripper heels to strap onto shoes.

Yes, my dear customers who have been leaving notes about finding windows.

They are in Booth W-10 waiting for new homes. 

Someone was scoping out that pretty aqua one.

A basket with a coat of many colors.

A small book of Lincoln's Devotionals.

Jars were a bargain at the thrift store and I needed them for sorting junk.

If you watched the Masters golf tournament last weekend, you know what kind of weather we had.

Chilly with high winds.

No painting with pollen filling the air.

I was so proud of myself.

Wrote a list.

Hunted for two days.

Came home with only items on the list.

Sap Buckets - Galvanized

I wanted galvanized sap buckets, but could only find shiny metal ones.

Used Matte Gray Krylon spray and heavy duty nitrile gloves to create the galvanized look.

Spray the sap bucket.

Then while very wet use your fingers to press all around the surface.

WARNING: This is messy!  Use gloves that will not tear.

Used two coats of gesso.

Stamped each with my cheeky cherub stamp.

Needed something else.

The cherub is thinking what the heck is she doing now?

Stamped Hope, Believe, Trust on each.

Distressed with a metallic pewter.

I love this stuff in every color!

A pale pink tulle bow and the sap bucket is ready to go.

Quickies - Pink Berry Baskets

I completed several quickies projects this past week.  It was hard to select a favorite.
   
The vintage berry baskets from the peach farm estate sale were waiting to be beautified.

First I pulled out my music flash cards.

Yes, they were already yellowed manila paper,

BUT ...






 

They needed more distressing.

Into a hot bath of coffee and Rit taupe dye.

I let them soak for about ten minutes.

I stirred them with a metal spoon.




 

Placed them on a screen in the sun to dry.

See the creased marks?

While stirring I make sure to fold and unfold them.

Also scrape with the metal spoon.

Used one of my cans of hoarded Sweet Pea Pink paint.

Used a cheeky cherub stamp on each.

Finished with a torn cotton ribbon overdyed in Rose.

Sweet, but not complete.

A bundle of flash cards for each basket.

 Ready for you to tuck in a small gift or two.

No, I did not forsake my new Cool Ocean Breeze paint.

A bunch of baskets being beautified.

Friday Finds

I had to scrape around the living room to find some finds for you today.

I have not shopped much this past week. 

The Masters Golf Tournament is in town so it is a constant trip to the antique mall to keep the booth stocked with smalls for the visitors in town.

Easy to carry = easy to buy!

This stool is probably past its use for sitting but perfect for a huge fern.

It is a sage green - looks gray in the booth.

A lace tablecloth - great for displays.

A jar to be filled with smalls.

An English biscuit tin.

I found a stack of unfinished hat boxes all for one price and then 75% OFF!

Could not resist even though I did not need another project to finish.

From Horror Monster's Attic Treasures section came these three lamps.

Two brass ones.

(Yes, I know you can barely see them, but Chucks was in a rush to go and there was no second chance photography.) 

The six-foot wooden lamp was handmade by a relative's great grandfather.

It is an unwanted orphan due to its height.

All three available in Booth W-10.

At the 75% off sale I found this primitive, but new, table.

Of course it will get painted to add patina to it.

It had been a puppy chew toy at some point in its life.














 

I am sure the thrift shop thought I was insane when I bugged them about wanting this box.

It is a vintage Ivory soap box.

Contained a gross (144) of personal size bars.






This was why I wanted it.

For years Proctor and Gamble's logo was the Man in the Moon with thirteen stars to represent the thirteen original colonies.

Decades ago there was a ridiculous accusation that this was a Satanic symbol.

P&G decided to change their logo to avoid the controversy.

I have some ideas to preserve parts of the box.

Okay, not exciting finds, but unexpected.

I hang out behind the liquor store on Monday nights to pick up boxes if I need them. 

One of the clerks came out with more boxes as I was selecting the ones to fit my items.

He invited me to take as many as possible.

I laughingly said what I wanted was the Coca Cola crates stacked against the building.

Surprisingly he said take all I wanted - they had been there for the Coke guy to pick up for a few weeks.

So I did.

I will not reveal how many I got.

But I will admit to being greedy! 

Two of my favorite dealers at the mall are leaving.

There is sale going on in their booth.

I picked out this article on Hazford Rupert LXXXI (81st).

The most famous Hereford bull to ever sire a calf.

He died in 1947 after fathering a line of calves worth over a million dollars.

Of course that does not sound like much these days.

But remember old Rupert had to sire those calves the old-fashioned way!

The rusty crusty old enamelware jug and the military torn and tattered backpack.

The jug needs cleaning and waxing and some daisies.

The bag needs a little more bling.
