Black Corsican Table

I am ashamed to say how long it took me to complete this simple table makeover.





Bought back at the first of this year, I was thinking a quick polish would repair all the finish flaws.

 However I was WRONG!

 Some chemical had removed the finish around the bottom of the legs.

The Corsican Table would have to be painted.






Why do I call it the Corsican Table?

 Because it has its name on the label underneath.

Made in North Carolina for the Loving Furniture Company in Morgantown, West Virginia.





Not wishing to damage the beautiful top, I flipped it over and sanded the apron and legs.











Using Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Carbon.

 And this is where I put it in the corner of the living room.
In February.

 I am ashamed to say it stayed right there until last week.






Finished painting with Carbon.

 Sanded.












Applied Howard's Citrus Shield in Dark Oak over the black.













Used MinWax paste - clear - for the top which is real inlay.









Quite the handsome fellow - this Corsican Table.

 Ready for a new home at Riverfront Antique Mall 

in North Augusta, South Carolina.

 Booth W-10.

 I am ashamed to say this is not the only piece half-way completed.

 YIKES!

    Lovely table. Amazing job of transformation. I like the black for the legs and apron, and I love that you preserved the beautiful inlaid top.

    Gosh, that's beautiful. Wish I was closer, Donna. I'd snag that baby and bring him back to the Mountain State, where he belongs. {hmmm....on second thought, maybe he escaped the inevitable tradition in Morgantown, where they're known to burn couches with their Mountaineer sports enthusiasm). Very nice job.

    Your finished table looks beautiful, Donna. Great job! I'm ashamed to say that I have a set of tables I never finished, too. Nothing like your beauty, but a couple of small end tables I took to a class on chalk painting - painted one, but never waxed or finished it and then I lost interest. Don't know if and when I'll ever get back to them. I just know, painting furniture is not for me.

    Your Corsican table should be quite happy now to be refurbished and so pretty again. Love those legs and cross pieces. If more of us were closer we'd be fighting for that table at your booth. It is so gorgeous. I have a thing for tables (among too many other things according to hubs). lol Love to mix styles too.
