Friday Finds

vintage finds, books, quilt, wicker
Between a wedding, a court hearing for a friend, a party, and other life events, I managed to squeeze in two hours of estate sales, garage sales and thrift shops last weekend.

A must have - an old wicker plant stand with the galvanized planter box intact.

Old yardsticks and yard tools.

Including five toddler-sized hoes.

An over-sized star colander.

A gnome-sized red stool.

Another week, another quilt.

Crib-sized.

Some blocks are 60's and some are older.

Reading books and dog stories - again.

A cricket box - I was looking for a third.

A token from Leadville, Colorado.

A tiny trophy.

A whole stack of work aprons - most beautifully worn and tattered and torn.

I'm working on them.

Goodwill was having a basket sale so I bought a dozen or so.

A clever wall hanging of a hamburger made of wood and canvas (the seeds in the bun are tiny nails).

All on a piece of corrugated tin.

A plush Santa checking his naughty or nice children in his vintage J Chen file box.

In the back of a closet at the estate sale were these two vests - adult-sized.

Handmade - the white one in a heavy cotton and the blue one in felted wool.

Look at the crochet around the edges and the delicate embroidery down the button plackets.

The blue vest has an initial on the back.

I could not leave these two behind - I was afraid someone would toss them.

Right before running (really, I was running!) to get dressed for the wedding, I found this fraternal twin of the Nighty-Night Stand from yesterday's post HERE.

I had to buy him.

I have a post showing his new look coming soon.

I am not sure if I will be hunting this weekend.

We have a green lagoon in the middle of the backyard jungle.

I am hoping for rain.

See y'all!

  1. I never find old quilts at the flea market or junk stores... I really hope to find one soon.

  4. That's quite the great haul Donna. I love that wicker plant stand, and to have the box insert still with it is fabulous. Those work aprons are so fun, and I love that old Santa.

  5. Of all the wonderful stuff you hauled in, those aprons are intriguing. Almost like grain sacks in their rugged beauty.

  6. Love it all as per usual Donna! The vests are sweet. I feel the same way about things sometimes... like I'm rescuing them from being thrown out... some people just don't get it!

  8. I will take the planter stand and books (of course). Interesting story about your Santa. I have one that is almost identical -- a little more faded and worn. He is from a marketing campaign presented by Coke in the 40s and is supposed to have a small coke in his hand. I have a photo of me with my Santa when I was 3 months old. I just recently passed it down to my son. I've threatened him within an inch of his life if anythings happens to it! ;-) Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. Some really neat stuff Donna. Just give you an hour or two and you can bring home the good stuff. Anxious to see what you do with the old work aprons. That plant stand is wonderful and just know you will make it come alive with some paint.
    Happy week-end.
