Laddie the Tool Caddy has had a busy life. I bought him several years ago. At first he was just natural wood - obviously home-made. Laddie was the perfect caddy for my rusty tools.
Then I clean him up with a coat of white paint and, while wearing a red bandana, he became the star at a Fourth of July picnic.
A year went by and I painted him baby blue and off he went back and forth to the pool carrying lotions, potions, and snacks!
A year went by and I painted him baby blue and off he went back and forth to the pool carrying lotions, potions, and snacks!
Another year went by. I stuck a tag on him and he traveled to the shop to display milk bottles. He stayed there for several months and nobody seemed to want him so I felt sorry for him and brought Laddie back home.. Laddie worked around the craft room pulling his weight until he gradually got shuffled into a far corner.
Here Laddie sits on big brother Solomon who will appear in a later post. You will notice that it was project day when everybody gets thrown out in the driveway and the back patio for cleaning, painting, sanding, and waxing!
I liked the blue, but thought of distressing him some more and adding an adornment - an image from Karen at The Graphics Fairy!
Laddie endured a full-body scrub and a heavy sanding to get to this look. (I found out that some of Laddie's distressing had actually been just plain dirt! Naughty boy!)
Back inside out of the heat (I think Laddie is basically an inside man!) I chose a bird's nest image. Yes, I use this a lot - remember I have a thing for birds!
Reverse transfer Mod Podge with a quick burnish with the wax paper. I left this one to dry instead of doing a wet transfer because I had paint and wax drying out in the sun.
After rubbing the paper off, I waxed Laddie with Howard's Citrus Shield (dark oak). The image on Laddie is not blurred - just my photo is!
Laddie is so handsome sporting the three nest images and his clean, but distressed look.
Now Laddie is headed off with the others to the new/old booth. I am working on some toolbox buddies to accompany him.
I am thinking some spindles might look great for Laddie to carry!
WWWD?
WHAT WOULD WILLIE DO?
Why Willie would shred his blanket. I wondered what he was doing while I was working - he was being very quiet. He is just lucky those blankets are $3 at Goodwill or he would have to find work to pay for his shredding addiction! At least he knew to stay on his blanket and not on the sofa cushions.
See y'all!

ReplyDeleteLove the the nest didn't fully transfer. I am not sure that I completely understand the reverse transfer with Mod-podge. How do you do it? Thank you for linking this up to Rustic Restorations Weekend.
